Dunno, the proc rate on the ring seemed kinda absurdly high, and I haven't tested the mantle enough to know for sure. We did Jorm today, and Lito would regularly take 0 dmg from a fireball just about every/every other flight.

I didn't get hit very often, maybe about 10 times or so, and it only went off once for me. Still, seeing Jorm hits Xavier for 0 points of dmg was a pretty sight.

Short of getting your ass burnt to a crisp by Tiamat, when would you continually get slammed by magic attacks? It makes sense that the proc rate would be higher on the ring, since you get hit (especially as a PLD) about 10+ times less with magic attacks then you do melee. Making the procrate on Shadow Mantle even close to the Ring would be completely unbalanced. Its an uber item.. but even a 5-10% Invincible rate is incredibly good.

when you're getting your ass burnt to a crisp by Jorm, when you're taking Hurricane Wing from Fafnir, Jailer of Hope (I think? I think he was the one with like the instant lv 2 ancient), etc. Its probably a hell of a lot more useful than the mantle since we blink tank almost everything.

I did at jorm and it only proced once in 10 random hits, 80 hp would've been better I imagine for the fireballs.

You'd take 80HP over the chance to take no damage?

Like I said... continually. None of those things happen continually (I just said Tiamat, I was kinda bunching together Tiamat,Jorm,Ouryu). Fafnir does not wing that much, especially with a mage onry ally. I havent fought hope but still you wont be getting hit with 30 Tier 2 AMs. I was basically saying you get hit with physical attacks ALOT more then magical, hence Shadow mantle having a lower procrate but still being just as, if not more useful. Not like you'd use one or the other.. they are in different slots. Wasn't a comparison as to which was more useful.. just explaining the reason for a higher procrate on the ring, and explaining that does not necessarily make it better.

You don't take dmg if you don't get hit in the first place.

It must be really fking good for PLD/WAR...If you guys were maxed on shadow mantle in the future, would you consider PLD/WAR with AA on wyrms or has /NIN taken over completely?

Ya, I really like that for NIN tanks by far. Not sure what I'd do on pld, but -5% magic dmg is pretty hot.

The "Magic Def Bonus" on darksday on the shadow ring is.....super high too btw. I think Lito was getting hit for 140 wing without shell on at fafnir one time.

Dang, considering I'm RDM I have a default Mag Def trait, and from AF2 gloves (+2 Mag Def), even with Shell IV on from the Fafnir fights I've watched, Wing's hit me harder than that o.O

The ring is really nice. With magical dmg reduction gear I've gone and straight tanked Suzaku thru her 2hour as a PLD/WAR.
[removed broken image] (It needs alot of updating /o_o\ )

But our other 2 PLDs (Winraf & Jawas) that have the Shadow Mantle has seen some impressive procs too. It seems that on multi-hit from enemies, if the mantle cancels one attack, it cancels them all. We've seen this happen on Tiamat thru her mighty strikes as seen here:

Kurokikaze or whatever his name is also posted some logs that showed his mantle proccing alot. Probably the best mantle for a PLD/WAR.

Yeah... Aribeth pretty much ended this conversation. 1000+ damage negated in a 5 second period... guess that doesnt increase E-Peen like 80HP does though. I'll stick with Gigant mantle.

Erm...I think you missed the point. PLD/NIN doesn't get hit therefore Shadow Mantle wouldn't be all that effective.

So they need 80HP for what then, if they manage to somehow blink-tank a CoP Wyrm while not getting hit once. We've already established that Resentment Cape would be better in the air... so yes, I guess I do miss the point. Or there is no valid one.

lol well there is alot of merit to the Gigant mantle too. For every time I've seen crazy procs, I've also seen the tanks go into the low 100s and then be the potetional to die to another last hit or AoE where obviously the gigant mantle would have won. And of course as mentioned before, we should also consider the Resentment Cape and Boxer's Mantle.

They are all great back pieces but I think more important that a person should be consistant in their equipment decision making.
