    Idk...I haven't tried or seen shadow mantle in use yet...but even on PLD/NIN, I think I'd prefer it.....Mitzki, your'e right we won't get hit that much, but when we DO...that 80 HP from might strikes tiamat won't do shit....you always would have that chance IF you shadows went down and no one got the wyrm off you that you would negate the hit? idk

    Also remember if you're casting Ni or Ichi as a PLD/NIN and the hit goes for 0 because of the mantle, it won't interrupt you.

    That can save a lot of casts which in turn saves even more damage.

    The one time the shadow mantle proced during our entire Jorm fight for me, it was during ichi cast w/o shadows up, and I just thought I got lucky and wasn't interrupted until I checked the log and saw Jorm hit me for 0.

    Its really pimp but I need to use it in more than just 1 fight to be sure.

    Technically, you could debate that. Assuming the region is outside of your control and you get the 5% magic dmg down, thats something like 14 dmg off a fireball isn't it (assuming the fireball hits for 280 dmg, I can't remember the exact #, correct me if my math sucks I'm mentally slow).

    Now, I know that some people switch in full magic dmg down gear and pump it out to like -50% magic dmg down, at which point it makes a huge difference and you're pro, however, say you don't have any other gear except resentment for magic dmg down.

    Say his wing gets off among other shit and knocks you down to 265 hp. Whoops, Gigant would've just saved your life since you would've actually had 345 hp left, while Resentment just left you with -1 hp. I don't think you can definitively say one is better than the other, its a matter of luck.

    With 0 magic defense a Wyrm fireball will hit you for about 340-360 damage. Shell IV lowers damage taken by like 50-60. Shining ruby (<3 this ability lol) lowers damage taken by another 10-15ish.

    With -31% magic damage, Shining Ruby (from WHM/SMN,) and Shell IV I take around 170-180 damage per hit from Tiamat or Jormungand in the air. The Phalanx shield may give another -15%-20% damage taken, which would bring a fireball attack down to 120-130ish per hit. I haven't had a chance to test the shield on a Tiamat or Jormungand yet.

    White Mage also have the Magic Defense Bonus trait, and I believe theirs goes up to tier V, correct me if I'm wrong. RDM's only goes up to I or II. BLM gets Magic Atk. Bonus V? by default, RDM's, once again, only going up to I or II.

    Ignoring everything else you said since I was pretty much comparing gigant to cape w/o any extra magic def bonuses.
