I also maintain that any job can perform many different roles very well if you have the skill and gear to do it. With 2 macros my pld can go from tank to #2 dd (mnk being #1) against pots and bones. Kinda fun to hit for 150-200+ per swing when you're supposed to be a tank.
*edit* good grief in the time it took me to post this my point has already been made and then 2 more posts have been added... my forum skills decrease by .2

Dude, a multihit WS is always, always, always be more inconsistent than a one-hit WS is (which you would know, as DRK). To be completely honest, pre-40, pretty much any job lacks a ball-busting WS that puts out huge enough numbers that would be bickered over which to use more often. =\Originally Posted by Sekkite

Backhand Blow is a pretty hot WS till Raging Fists, but it usually depends, Combo can do more damage with a Fusion SC but BHB is good for solo'ing WS. As a MNK get used to solo'ing WS till 60, cause no one likes Fusion or Impaction

I seriously would level warrior over monk(and that's what im doing now) because end-game for a warrior is a lot more fun for me.
The way i see it, monks end-game is chi blast but when it comes to other stuff like merits and stuff where you are allowed to smash things with your 2 hands, then i give them that. But the same could be said for warrior.
The reason why monks can outdamage warriors end game is because they get access to a shitload of haste gear at 75. Brown belt is 8% and fucking black is 12%. Byakko Haidate... a long with other gear.... too fast.
Also, Monks h2h is like a warrior dual wielding 2 Great Axes, along with that haste setup... This is how i see it.
Even with a ridill, I can still see it being hard to outdamage one IMHO.
Race plays a big part in damage, Elvaan MNKs are fucking monsters.
Your ls needs wars, you want to help them, they already have 6 mnks. I think you know what to choose now 8)
Personally i would always go with war cause i can be a DRK/PLD/MNK for the price of 1 all it takes is a gear swap and i could be either =)
MNK is cool but 1-10 fun as hell, 10-60 hell, 60-69 okay, 70-75 kick ass, End game Chi blast whore!![]()
MNK after Howling Fist is a fucking ORGASMIC TIME PERIOD.
As for MNK outdamaging WARs, the only WAR I'd like to outdamage is Kuniva.
I think both jobs are pretty even DD wise as somebody said earlier in the topic, it depends more on the person and gear set up. Both jobs hands down rape any other DD imo. I know in dynamis its always BLM, PLD, MNK, and WAR that die-,-. My mnk is 75 and its really fun and powerful, but im taking war to 75 next to see if i can outdmg my mnk, and Steel Cyclone is pretty cool lol.
What about out damaging his monk? Although I suppose it would be moot point for now since he quit FFXI.Originally Posted by Elcura

Destroyers > Faith Baghnaks
isnt faith baghnaks a piece of shit? >.>
Eh, every monk I know of who has it says it out-DoT's Destroyers due to the very high double-attack proc rate.Originally Posted by Takeno
They also say it isn't worth it to use it on a consistent basis cause of virtue stones being consumed very fast.
I strongly disagree... race means very very little. I'm taru, and I've never felt gimped by my race at all.Originally Posted by Elcura
Also, my MNK/NIN is WAY more powerful than my WAR/NIN, although I don't have a ridill. =P
But to stay on topic... I think they're both about the same really... you said Dynamis and Wyrms, and they're both good DD for both. I think WAR is more versatile as they can also tank if needed, but if that's not an issue... then yea, play whatever you want, heh
I will say that Race doesn't play that much of a role while lvling, but end-game is a completely different story, Elvaan have like 8 more str then taru and mithra (w/o) merits which is pretty much 2str rings. Although i've never felt gimped by my race I still won't deny the awesomeness that is an elvaan DD. A good elvaan mnk is sick, the one's that use sushi in krt can get outdamage by a meat-eating whatever.Originally Posted by Taku
As lately I have been lvling both WAR and MNK tho at low lvls, so far both seem pretty on par. Except sometimes I hit 200+ Sturmwinds and I haven't beat 170 Combo.
But both are fun jobs. Now while Rukenshin posted his DMG dynamis wise, if you take a look at the parser made by BG on Dynamis Lord you'll notice it was a MNK who did the most DMG. Based off both data I think both jobs would be as good for the needs you have.
Just lvl the one that gives you the most fun.
Elcura, what would you say is the best food to use as MNK at 75?(Off topic but curious)
