that's what we usually have do damage. WAR, SAM, or a DRK. The others wait with /SAM or build on the mobs around. (or they use sleep pots and opo-opo) And those wing moves don't have to be so bad. Especially if the melee are smart enough to either sub /RDM for Phalanx and Stoneskin or smart enough to bring a stoneskin gorget thingy. That REALLY helps the MP of a mage.

depends on how well rounded your ls is. Meleeing fafnir is not a problem if you're able to handle the spam.

countless times my ls has put melee on it (usually 6, pre-rng nerf, there would be about 3 rangers on it shooting bullets/opening and closing skill chains along with drks, war and thf with 3+ blm's MBing)

You can bring down fafnir very quick (usually 10-15min) this way but you risk having to sleep it to recover MP if you're running dry. You have to work on a strat that works best for your linkshell if you don't have the jobs to do it the way other people do it.

well said not every LS has 9 SMN or 9 BLM at hand to come fight some things. Every LS should be ready to develop strategies for mobs with what they have rather than try and copy everyone else. That's part of the fun of this game, imo. Figuring out how to do things with what you got :D

Just chiming in since the issue was brought up. Don't bring /RDM. Phalanx subbed on a melee is only taking roughly 9 dmg off of that 400 Hurricane Wing. /WHM is better because your stoneskin will be a bit higher (more MND) and you'll also have more MP. Either way, A+ for effort to any melee that brings whm sub...seriously like it or not these fights are won with MP, not shihei and TP (don't care if you nin-onry to tank, you're still going to have to recover from wings.)

We've killed him in 10 minutes without ever engaging it...its a lot safer than risking wingspam because melees don't know their place.

I went to Dragon's Aery on my LV40 WHM Tarutaru, Wing hit a little over 300 usually, and hit for 250 with stoneskin up (fafnir)

Also, two levels of "Magic Def. Bonus" are better than one.

Considering Phalanx is based off ur enhancing skill why would 53 rdm take less than 75 BLM?

    Level BST...

Mobs don't use tp right at 100%. Anybody who bitches about melees giving mobs tp is a fucking retarded cuntface. It does NOTHING. Nothing at all. No mob ws are actually effected by TP, so them going at 200 instead of 150 isn't going to mean shit.

on the contrary, when I was leveling my bst I found that mobs always used tp at 100%.

that's not a real accurate assestment. while mobs definitely don't WS at 100%, if they sit on 300 TP their chances of WS is going to be really high. as a BST how fast can you give a mob 300 TP? compare that to how fast an alliance can do it especially an alliance with a lot of melees.

    and fight Fafnir ...

when low on HP it definitely uses WS every chance it gets at 100 TP, i'm guessing a lot of mobs react this way. normally random WS when it has TP, than WS @100 TP when low on HP.

when you fight a Fafnir that does 3 wings the entire fight and when you fight a Fafnir that spams it almost as fast as you can cast and recast stoneskin, than you'll have a different view of how mobs behave with TP.

isnt phalanx gimped when subbed? rdm has magic def 2 @45 so im assuming thats why. BLM/RDM is what im going by with only 1 def bonus

Not "gimped" but always based on enhancing skill only.

Unresisted, a RDM34 would take less than a 75WHM/BLM. About 7 less. RDM75's with macroed enhancing are somewhere around -28 dmg (please no one post the formula, it means nothing to the thread). Phalanx is terrible defense again large single shots of damage, which is why RDM casting Phalanx in XP party is also retarded unless you're trying to tank.

Anyways, nice derailment. I don't agree with Orfeo, just because mobs don't use TP right at 100 doesn't justify giving them asstons of it. And anyone levelling BST should know that once a mob is "in the red" they use JA/WS immediately at 100% everytime.

Odd, the countless times I was leveling my BST up on slimes and had to marathon slimes I would charm them with 300tp. Same goes for opo-opo's and even charming mobs when my pet died and had no choice. Yes melees will make something use it's TP move more often, guess it looked like I said they don't, but it's nothing so noticeable that you will wipe.

Just kinda hate mifaco's elitist ass.
