Just curious what those of you that have managed to "acquire" System of a Down's new album think of it so far. I was horribly underwhelmed and mildly dissapointed with Mesmerize but, wow, Hypnotize is fucking awesome. A lot of the songs are of SOAD's upbeat joke style and the more serious ones are a lot less depressing than usual.

So, yeah, get it and post your thoughts of it.

On a serious note, if anyone does in fact live in the Philly/New Jersey area, there is a release party in early January and we have a couple bands from our record label sharin the stage. It's gonna be fun, hard rock/metal, good beer, and drunk white women for everyone.

I'm pretty excited to pick this up as well. I don't find SOADs lyrics depressing at all, because a lot of their lyrics are way far out there political things that are rediculous lol

I love the new album. Still not as good as Toxicity but still awesome.

I agree. Songs like 'Vicinity of Obscenity' and 'She's Like Heroin' especially.

All the songs are catchy and the guitar riffs equally so. Damion and Serj do really well on this album, combining vocals to achieve something unique. Despite this though, I really love Serj's vocals and think maybe he should have done more singing on this album.

SOAD is awesome, seriously if you actually listen to it, it has such a wide variety of styles, between the albums and the songs within the albums, yet they all seem to work. (Granted not some as well as others.)
