You're not crazy. In one of the first interviews about the expansion they did say it would be released with the 360.

But like any game and release dates, they're rarely accurate and almost always get pushed back.

I think you guys misinterpreted what was said in that interview. It was said that the Expansion would be released when FFXI was launched for XBox360. FFXI was never said to be coming out on the opening day of XBox360. Recent interviews show the release date is 5/15/06. That's when FFXI will be released for XBox360 and that's when the Expansion will be released as well.

Om'hpedme. Those "puppy dog" things from sea. No bloodpact ability, it just follows you around, makes weird noises, and when it's mouth is open, YOU take double damage!

Sad to say this might be true, if you remember them pictures to the "nothern al'tula where u cant go" it had double light weather, IMO thats the BC-prep room for a avatar prime fight and the zone name was something like Om'hpedme

And gludd told me there are 3 summons, creditable info IMO. But then again hes a little bitch.

If you are referring to the locked avatar gate in the uncapped tower near Ranguemont Pass, it is for a quest called "A Reputation in Ruins" in Upper Jeuno. If I remember correctly, it is the Phoenix Gate and it is broken. Then again, there are 6 towers- there may be Avatar Gates for all of the Celestial Avatars in the towers that are not connected to Promyvion - Vahzl.

I'm curious now... I want to check the other uncapped tower.

Wouldn't that be Phoenix? It would make sense, because spoiler Phoenix 'died' protecting you from Bahamut or something in a cutscene after one of the airship BCs, and also because Alexander doesn't exist at all in the FFXI lore... we would have probably heard about Alexander already if it was intended to be an avatar at some point.

At any rate, I can guarantee that Diabolos is going to be one of them. Replace Carby's dat file with his, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

He's got a perfectly fluid summon animation. Just like any other avatar. Yet if you put NPCs in the place of Carby, they just... pop.

Yep. There are 8 celestial avatars, which are represented in that star chart (6 of which are obviously the current summons):

Light~ Alexander
Thunder~ Ramuh
Fire~ Ifrit
Wind~ Garuda

Dark~ Odin
Ice~ Shiva
Water~ Leviathian
Earth~ Titan

There are also 2 terrestial avatars which are clearly represented by their element:

Light~ Carbuncle
Dark~ Fenrir

If it were to match up, then you would need another 6 terrestial avatars. Bahamut, Diabolos, and Phoenix are all named as terrestial avatars. That would theoretically be half right there.

A couple of problems though... What elements would they be? Diabolos makes the most sense as dark, but uh... We have Fenrir already. You could possibly stick him as wind just because he can cast Gravity, I guess. Phoenix would, uh, probably have to be fire. Bahamut... Well, his Mega Flare is historically either fire or non-elemental. We already have a candidate for fire avatar, and I would feel kind of weird with Bahamut as any other element, so... The other issue is that I think it would be weird to be able to summon him in any event. Perhaps he's best as some kind of mega boss in this game.

So you could either have fire and wind taken, and still need the two missing celestial avatars, and another four terrestial, or you could just need another three terrestial depending on how SE does the one(s) they are about to add.

Honestly, though, a lot of the summons from other games that could fill the roles are sort of suck... Diabolos and Phoenix are far and above the coolest things one could think of for wind and fire, but uh... Bismarck (giant whale) is the best they've had so far for water besides Leviathan... Golem (duh) is the best they've had so far for earth besides Titan...

Golem might actually be neat if they added him the way he is in other games, because he's kind of like Cover+1. He absorbs and tanks all physical damage for you (he wouldn't absorb or block special abilities or magical damage, though). So he would uber tank for your PT until he died. That would be wildly abusive unless they toned it down, though.

Anyway, Ixion would probably be the best bet for thunder. He's pretty awesome, and would fit well into the "thunder avatars in this game have good graphic design" ala Ramuh's facelift. Ice, though... The only ice avatar in any FF game that I'm aware of besides Shiva is Cyclops. And if you think Cyclops would be cool, I'm not sure what to say to you.

I don't think Terrestrial avatars would have to match up to any elements. They don't really say "Carbuncle of the light" they call him "The bringer of Rainbows" or whatever.
