MNK AF+1 is only the third item in the game to give STR on body, idk if I like it better than SHura, but it sure is better than SH.
Drg AF+1 Body might be comparable to a Haubergeon... if it were available at the same level as one.

But you can't wear it until lv74, and so I would still choose Assault Jerkin (+17 Att, +3 Acc), Barone Corazza (+14 Att, Regen, -Fugly), or Homam Corazza (+15 Acc, Triple Attack) for melee, and Hecatomb Harness (+12 Str +10 Acc) for WS over AF+1 (+7 Att +6 Str +6 Vit, Wyvern Regen) for either.

The DRG AF+1 in general doesn't look that appealing, since they copped out and didn't make "Wyvern uses breaths more effectively" any better than regular AF. It's mostly "sorta good" gear, and most people who can make it to Sea are going to already have access to something better.
    Its also for DRG LOL!
    Too weak!

Whats funny about that quote is how much it points out that, if AF+1 was the actual AF you get lvls 52-60 people besides PLDs might actually use artifact gear of any kind. I still consider both the monk and drg AF+1 bodies to be useful, perhapes on the "easier to obtain" level (compared to god/cursed gear) I'd like to see how drg body compares to Assult Jerken.

I think the main gripe is from Xavier and many others, is that its AGAIN new gear that doesnt rival gear that came out 1-3 years ago. Which in turn fucking screws over those who have kept up on the endgame equipment. I mean look at half of AF1+1, its useless in comparison to current gear...alot of which is easily obtainable. Why release it if its already obsolete?

I mean what would you think if everytime a new update came out, all of the new shit was worse then gear you got a year ago. You can only take so much of the same gear until this game just doesnt feel worth it anymore. Xavier and others are just asking for SE to throw endgame people a bone. A nice juicy uber bone.

if it was yes, but it isn't so therefore it's irrelevant.

and Assault Jerkin is what Lv 67? AF+1 is Lv 74, there's well over 100k of XP between the two pieces.

AF+1 fails in it being Lv 74, if it was made to be the same level as AF it would still be decent, because that way, people leveling their 2nd or 3rd jobs would really want a lot of the pieces to XP on. people would want it for level capped stuff (even though 60 cap isn't that much).

but for Lv 74 gear, 90% of AF+1 is already obsolete.

A lot of peices do have the best in the game in certain aspects on them. WHM peices have the best MND possible for the slot in a few cases, the RDM hat gets boosted with 2 extra int, which with it's 10 elemental magic, is a nice improvement, I can't think of anything else with +5 int on the head let alone everything else. The rdm body got a big +MP boost and some other things. NIN have a few upgrades that aren't bad either.

I think it's more like 40% is obsolete at most, but maybe another 40% being situational only. The RDM AF gloves and boots are useless, so the AF+1 being obsolete too since they're based on the AF isn't really a surprise.

RDM AF+1 is obsolete when compared to AF2 and other gear (elite baret, errant body etc), the minimal enhancements from normal AF aren't enough to warrent spending currency on 20 MP or 2 INT, enhanced Fast Cast on the hat and 5 more enfeebling magic on the body WOULD make it worth while but as it stands you could use the currency on something a lot better then this.

Some AF+1 is good cause it gives stats you can't find elsewhere, MNK AF+1 boots give +10 evasion, 2 more then heralds gaiters (which had the most at +8). Yet this is still quite useless unless you plan to solo with /nin

Other pieces (head/legs) gives huge boosts to MND, which again MNKs can't find elsewhere. These are good examples of AF+1, the Body and Hands are BAD examples because you can easily go above and beyond the stats they give.

Fact is a lot of the AF+1 is very situational and hard to get (getting sea is hard bitches) and most of the times downright not worth it.

I have RDM AF2 and I still often use AF1, so the Af+1 which are better are no more obsolete than the AF1. 20 coins for 2 INT isn't very much considering you've probably blown 6 mil for 2 INT by going from a +4 int ring to a +5 and rainbow cape to prism or errant slops to mahatma.

FFXI's already shit drop rate made 10x worse in Sea. Popping Ix is a grossly painful process, farming Grah chips is painful and when you do get the NMs to pop, they never drop the pop items you need. To top that off you then have JoL and AV which are ridiculously hard to the point of them not being worth doing. Getting 80 people together to share one drop IF it drops... ludicrous. 3 months farming for something to not even drop.

As for Temenos and Limbus, the prices on items are a bit high, Ultima is a pain in the ass to get to with 3 weeks farming chips to get to it, and all the content is just regurgitated mobs which I've fought a billion times already.

an example of sea, using sky as an example.

Sky: Olla requires one Ro'Maeve Water to spawn it, and the drop rate on Ro'Maeve Water is pretty shitty. In turn, it drops a Winterstone (I think that one), used to pop Genbu, 100% of the time.
Sea: Jailer of Fortitude requires 12 Ghrah M Chips to spawn it, and the drop rate on the Chips are similar to water. In turn, it drops a Virtue to spawn one of the 2nd tier Jailers, but this Virtue drop is not 100%.

The going price for ancient beastmen coins seems to be 400,000 and up (most of the time they go for 500,000 each) on Bahamut. Spending 8-10 million for a boost of 2 INT with no other boost and losing the ability to put AF in storage (which is a huge minus for me) unless you re-do quests just doesn't seem worth it.

Actually, I think most everyone in BG will agree that Limbus is rather fun. (We had a rather fun/exciting time last night.)

I would go as far as to say that Limbus and ENMs are the two things that kept CoP from being a total failure. (NPC Fellows are not CoP, and therefore not part of the reason to say that the Expansion doesn't completely suck ass.)

FFXIFlux and NynJa summed up why Jailers completely suck ass though.

I think it's right about the forest zones, wow immerses you in them more. But open areas is where FFXI shines, and things like mountains and canyons I think they do a good job about immersing you in the area. FFXI to me does look vastly superior to WOW but I think wow is intentionally made to look overdone and silly, it's just an artistic style and it works. What bugs me is the lack of originality in wow. Many things just look the same no matter where you go, where FFXI reuses a lot of enemy types wow reuses a lot of environment designs.

To use the popularity of WoW against FFXI is a moot point I think, WoW is the newest game out there, and as most people know in the MMORPG world, whatever is new is king. MMORPG companies know that the spike of their incoming cash flow comes from the beginning and then there is a drop off, the trick is to keep the game growing or stable enough to keep it alive and still make good money. WoW will lose a lot of people with the release of Vanguard, but it will still be more populated than FFXI. Mainly because it's more arcade style and easier, it's also more populated by younger/impatient gamers... usually a group I refer to as the FPS culture. There are a lot of these people and while FFXI has some I am glad there are not so many in FFXI.

I think the debate is old, all the people arguing how much greater wow is have not burned through the whole game yet. You could be 60 by now sure but how about for 12 months running. Until that point your completely biased, every MMORPG is appealing at first that is their design. What puts them up there is their lasting potential and ability to keep you there which no IGN writer can cover, They play the game for a few hours write a review and cash a check for it. They don't play for months and then critically analyze a game... I would never trust a reviewers opinion on an MMORPG from IGN or things like that. They did a good job of hyping wow up, and lots of people joined and now lots of people are addicted. Wow forums are also riddled with complaints and development suggestions etc like AK and this forum have now become. I see little difference between the two from people I regard to have a legitimate right to critique.

I have had wow for about 16 days now and have about 2 days play time, maybe less. Already I see flaws in the game but I am enjoying it still because it's different. Once that wears off I will properly compare the two games and maybe share it if people ask.

Anyways if the graphics of a game make or break it for you then your playing the wrong games. Graphics are a bonus to me everything else is more important to me when choosing a game.

Also I wouldn't call COP a total failure, I enjoyed the misisons up to where I have become stuck. The new zones are nicer looking and are nice. I stopped worrying about items long ago and just try to look for fun stuff to do. End game becomes a bit of a job no matter what game you play. Jailers are most definitely stupid to me, but to me that's a very small part of COP.

To the people who say that CoP wasn't a failure because it had a good story. A game that has a good story but no replay value (we'll call that endgame content) is called a single-player RPG.

i agree too. though i think Limbus and ENMs have decent replay value, just not large group LS style.

Trying to pop the sea aern NMs (and then not getting the drop).
I was under the impression, and in every instance in which Ive popped an Ix'Aern, that as long as you hold the Qn's/Wyverns and continually kill the IX' that you always get one drop or the other. Im 100% on Deeds doing it that way...and I seriously think Jailers could have some sort of similar means of killing them that makes them 100%. I dunno I've had very good droprates on Jailers, and it almost always seems like they drop in spurts.

Don't take anything into my Jailer statement, I just feel that it's a possibility...and you know how Sage Sundi kinda side-stepped that question...as if he didnt even know that they weren't 100%. Maybe that's the reason why?

Sundi: It could be bugged. It doesn't seem like it's the intentional way to design. Honestly I don't know, so I have to check into it.
Ok yeah it sounds like he's side-stepping...but I also feel like he's hiding something, and doesnt even wanna disclose that there's a way to get 100% drop on even Jailer items. Its obvious there is a 100% chance at IX'Aerns (or at least a VERY high chance as long as you hold Qn's and kill Ix')

Irregardless I still feel Jailer pools should be deepened, but maybe that's all they had in mind for them to drop, and are gonna place other items in Limbus and the new Dynamis.
