FFXI's PS2 foundation will DOOM IT!

God damn this is making me want to play WoW now too. Most of what has been said here is all fact, some of us are just denying what SE is doing or lack there of. This game is going down faster than a drunken whore.

Well, to be fair, people have been saying this game is dying since about 3 months after the NA release. Sure when you and your friends get sick of the game and end up quitting, you are in the state of mind that everyone must feel this way too. A great many people on this board now feel this way, so it seems everyone hates this game. But to be honest, there are still plenty of people who still like it. I don't see how a game could die until they start combining some servers.

Reading the arguments going on in this thread makes me want to play WoW again lol. I do agree that it's totally gay how SE doesn't give a shit for their customers.

Just an example, I found out a couple weeks ago that a 75BST I knew got permabanned b/c she got Amemet. Gil sellers MPKed her and stole the NM so she mpked them back. Then.. permaban. How lame is that.. Losing over a year of your time in a game b/c some fucktards in China needed to make $2. Gogo SE.

I didn't read any posts in this thread (ok I lie, I read xav's) but I must say FFXI's character design looks far better than WoW's, that we can't disagree on.

In fact, the whole FFXI world for me has a better feel to it, WoW is a bit PC-ish, with trolls and other typical warcraft stuff that only warcraft fans can enjoy.

I guess WoW can look better, more polished than a 5 year old console running a 4 year old engine but for some of us, visual quality means more than just the number of polygons/amount of textures your game is doing.

it would seem hard to leave FFXI, after accomplishing/spending some much time on it? I am just BLM75 and i tried to quit for WoW, and i was like wow, 100 days of play almost now, throw it all away? So i'm still playing FFXI.

ffxi, as a game, became largely worthless to me when we finished sky and went to three kings, and spent 3-9 hours a day usually getting nothing. relic, spent 200mil of ls money and 1 year of dynamis runs, which is already a completely ridiculous amount, on what turned out to be a useless weapon. sea, expected to be the new sky, was a piece of shit. seeing the future of ffxi by hearing what very little square has to say and then by actually talking to sundi and other square employees, and seeing them more interested in the fat guy dressed up like a moblin rather than the game itself - completely depressing. this process of about a year made the game completely worthless outside of the close friends i had, and that's why i quit.

i had 546 days, don't give a shit. since i moved on with nearly every core member and friend from bg, wow level 1 is ffxi level 76. i enjoy every single in game aspect of wow, which is obviously the level 1-42 content so far, much more than i enjoyed ffxi for the past year plus. ffxi to wow is an advancement of its own, far more valuable than any item(s) or advancement in game in ffxi

then here's question number 2:

how do you do time management? because you go to college, seem pretty active in online gaming and do shit with RL people i think? ( i saw your livejournal lol)

I personally have a really time managing my time, and i'm only a sophomore in high school. between school,hw,tennis,being class vp, tons of ffxi, friends.... i'm always fking up. if i cut tennis team to do ronstrum pumps , my coach is mad, if i cut LS event to hang with friends, the LS isnt happy. if i dont do HW to camp HNM my parents arent happy!

and all of the above are very important and i dont know what to do! i recently been trying to schedule time blocks , sorta works

it's very tough. you and i will never play more than the people who can play the most, haijins if you will, if we're in school or have a job. when i play more than i should it's for a couple reasons
-skipping lots of sleep
-doing homework while playing
-taking an easy schedule/major, my major is actually really hard but ive had easy schedules, especially with all the japanese mixed in

other people can play at work, skip days, live without work or school, whatever. basically you have to prioritize it JUST under something like school or work to be able to play as much as possible w/o fking up at life. guess that's my advice, guess it prolly sucks

WoW owns. As someone said, when I run though a forest I feel like im there, but in FFXI I dont.

Back tot he graphics, ffxi will always be limited by the PS2.

WoW > FFXI, but WoW has a unique art style while ffxi went for the 'more polygons'

Its obvious that Blizzard cares about their customers, what does SE do? Check the latest interviews, SE completely dodges everything asked about shit. Blizzard goes on and releases info. Hell, 1.9 patch is public right now and people are checking out the two new instances and gear from that patch right now.

When I played WoW for a few hours I thought it was mind numbing. I'd bet a 300lb gorilla could play it to lvl60 and be "teh uber leet". I think WoW is just so popular because it appeals to the ADHD infested majority. It has as much future as Madden2006, when the new "OMG awezome MMO wif cool looking characters like a duck (cow) LOL" comes out they'll all flock to that and WoW will be left with a smaller player base in which Blizzard can shit on and laugh at.

Also it's funny you bring up "Blizzard cares about their customers", which is complete and utter bullshit. They only care when the money is rolling in. Blizzard has been known to exagerate, lie, and manipulate their player base when they are no longer in a position to make a profit, just look at some of their past titles. Of course it's the same with any company, just find it funny that some people are so blind as to not realize this.

In any case I like a game that requires strategy and has negative consequences that reinforce strategy, WoW does not accomplish that - FFXI does. Hopefully by the time I max out on FFXI there will be another MMO out that will be satisfying enough to play.

His brother has a lv 60 that hes watched in high level instances as well as played..and obviously his accomplishments in FFXI need no explaining, meaning he has seen what both have to offer and has made up his mind.

Whats so amazingly funny is that the vast majority of people saying FFXI endgame is good are the people who have never really experienced it, sans a handful of people that I know to be in actual HNM linkshells.

If WoW (or any other quality game for that matter) can hold your attention through 18 months of staring at a computer screen than more power to them. I too used to think that WoW graphics were horrible and I could never even tried the game just becuase of that. Once you load the game up and actually start playing anyone who thinks FFXI graphics > WoW will be proven wrong.

That and one of the coolest fights I've seen so far was a Dragon elite in Blackwing Lair (the hardest instance available at this time) that would cast a debuff on a tank, and when that tank took damage it would heal the Dragon for that ammount, so players are having to constantly bounce hate back and forth between 3 or 4 tanks, people freaking out on coms watching it go from 80% all the way back up to 100%. Fun fun fun!

But hey, if you wanna sit and watch Summoners take 1% off a wyrm every 5min then go ahead, but I would rather be able to USE my job no matter what it is in the end game content of a game i worked so hard to get to.

That and it took SE 2 years to fix the damn Dragoon job, that speaks for itself.
