FFXI's PS2 foundation will DOOM IT!

Why the hell are people comparing shitty, straight-on shots of their level 12 rogue in WoW to sparkly, artsy, cinematic shots of pimped out characters in FFXI in sea?

Because at the beggining of the thread, people were showing shitty, straight-on shots of the PS2 version of FFXI, compared to PC high quality shots of WoW.

So we turned the tables.

Judging from the intial post, I'm seeing shitty straight-on shots of WoW compared with ridiculous rendered promotional shots of FFXI. Not really sure how thats turning the tables when the tables were already facing in your direction with the OP, lol. And really, if you're going to toss around low-quality, crappy screenshots of WoW, you may as well show the worst of FFXI [the shit parade that is the ps2] for comparison over which sucks harder.

That said, though I think WoW is a far superior game to FFXI having played both to end-game, there is something I miss about FFXI's graphics and the cutscenes. However, glitter and sparkles doesn't make up for shitty, drudgery of content, and TBH WoW graphics can be pretty impressive at times and far more tolerable for most people's systems, its just not everyone's cup of tea, style-wise. I loved, LOVED the look and feel and atmosphere of the entire CoP expansion - tavnazia was utterly beautiful and its one of the few games where I could honestly be content to just stare in awe at how amazing it all looked. Too bad the content was more of the same crap.

It looks like shit when fullscreen, which pretty much is how you describe the PS2 looking. Either way, it looks like shit, which is not how FFXI looks on a decent PC.

The top shot looks nice. The other 3 are a) all pink, b) low polygon models which look like shit, sorry, c) a mess of oversaturated ugly glow effects, d) low res textures which look like shit up close, e) no shadows looks goofy, but when you have 10 zillion light sources due to overuse of spell/magic effects it looks less goofy without than with I guess.

A and C are partly the fault of the shot and it looks better in game.

I'll post a picture of beating up a worm when I get home tonight and you can compare.

I am with Not Kuno, these threads are dumb.

Graphics, I don't care. It is fun I am after. And right now WoW is a hell of a lot more fun with a hell of a lot less frustration than FFXI ever gave me. It is all a matter of preference plain and simple. No matter which game you dig, just be fucking happy that you are doing something you enjoy instead of bashing others because they don't agree that your choice is the best thing on the block.

All of my shots of ~my characters~ are on my geforce 3 card obviously on my pc which I had already stated. Please pay attention that I'm not bashing either game. Its really about apples to oranges. Play ffxi till your bored of end game, play w.o.w. for pvp.

Sorry for the extremely long quote, but its stupid to say that you had to turn the tables on that, when the original post compared hi-res promotional pics of FFXI to a low-res pic of WoW. I TURNED the tables by showing how the game looks on the ps2 (the game looks the same on every ps2, its not debateable, no ps2 is better than the other, every ps2 looks like shit). I turned the tables by showing the exact opposite post, I didn't cast the first stone. Its just a little biased to say this was people from WoW bashing FFXI when the first post was FFXI bashing WoW in an extremely unfair comparison. Did you even read the first post?

And the bigger point was that you can't compare graphics because there are ALWAYS going to be pics on both ends of good and bad that can be used to unfairly make games look bad. I have a PS2, I know how shitty it looks, and I'm aware that its the resolution that ruins how the game looks among other reasons. I was referring to the fact that people claim, the PC version of FFXI will indeed never look good or go anywhere because of the game itself being BASED (hence me using the word foundation, not saying the PS2 version itself) on a PS2 console. Yes I'm aware those are PC pics. Why wouldnt I compare PC pics against another games PC pics. PS2 isn't an issue here, the game being inhibited by the PS2 being the lowest common denominator was the main purpose of this topic, and me showing that even though SE can't go anywhere graphics wise with their game because of them screwing themselves over with the PS2..it still looks 100 times better then a game brought out over 5 years after it.

This isn't about content this isn't about what game is better, this is about disproving the fact that people think hardware MAKES the game, when obviously SE shows that it doesnt, and that talent and having good artists and designers that give a shit how their game looks, will always win out.
