Hey avve my screenshots were pretty too right? ^^
Of course. They were very good. Thanks again!
Are you aware the reason that Square gave for not being able to give more inventory is that the PS2's memory can't handle it?Originally Posted by Lockecole

I could care less if you have a great looking (PC) game and an ugly (PS2) game, they have to exist on the same world, and because of that the PC version can never do ANYTHING that the PS2 can't handle fundamentally, which, as you so well put "Lol..you think this is what this topic was about? Read the fucking topic name."
Posting pictures of the PC game and then saying "look at how different it is than the PS2 version lolz newb the ps2 isn't holding it back" is retarded because the PS2 holds back the PC version all the time in terms of actual functions in the game. Either way, what you said was false.
"FFXI's PS2 FOUNDATION will doom it..."
It will doom it, because the PC version cannot include functions that exceed the capabilties of the PS2, its that simple. Graphical engines have no relevance on the topic of the PS2 dooming FFXI. The only way your topic would have any truth in it is if it came with a statement from Square saying they were abandoning the PS2 and that PS2 users would no longer be able to connect to FFXI through that console.
You're so quick to flame Lockecole but you don't even fking understand the fundamental problem with the PS2 in terms of future development with FFXI. Do a little research before you make threads that don't prove shit.
You make a good argument but there are 2 main flaws. First, as you say yourself, the PC and PS2 versions look different. They obviously can do things on the PC and 360 that they can't on the PS2. Yes, this means there will be SOME limitations, but I doubt anyone could seriously consider only having whatever ridiculous number of armor graphics they already have as bringing the downfall of the game. SE has lots of other things they're doing or not doing that will do that just fine, but limitations on the PS2, while holding the game back in some annoying ways, certainly won't kill the game.Originally Posted by Xavier
Second... have you SEEN the system specs that WoW is made for? This is for the upcoming expansion:
Q: What are the system requirements?
A: The system requirements remain the same as for the original World of Warcraft game.
Windows® System 98/ME/2000/XP OS:
o 800 MHz or higher CPU
o 256 MB or more of RAM
o 32 MB 3D graphics card with hardware transform and lighting, such as GeForce 2 or better
o 5 GB or more of available hard drive space
o DirectX® 9.0c or above
o A 56k or higher modem with an Internet connection
o 4x CD-ROM drive
Mac® System OS X 10.3.5 OS or newer:
o 933 MHz or higher G4 or G5 processor
o 512 MB RAM or higher; DDR RAM recommended
o ATI or NVIDIA video hardware with 32 MB VRAM or more
o 5 GB or more of available hard drive space
o 56k or higher modem with an Internet connection
o 4x CD-ROM drive
Personally I can't think of any other developer targetting games at a GeForce 2 now adays. I mean, thats worse than the card I bought... shit, 5 years ago? I was playing Quake 2 on cards better than that. In other words, if you're going to argue that FFXI is doomed from it's being pinned to old hardware, much the same argument could be made for WoW. There is the reason the color palette in WoW is messed up, the textures poor quality and the meshes low poly. 1 million Chinese users with outdated hardware who will never upgrade CAN NOT be abandond.
Heres a game with really good endgame and alot of pvp feature stuff. http://www.lineage2.com

I don't agree with the SE rep's comment in a recent interview about the PS2 memory limitations restricting the size of the mog houses. Blame sloppy programming not the PS2. If we can fill our mog houses to the brim with mannequins for tons of storage then it doesn't make much sense when they say they can't expand the mog houses any more. I am noticing a trend with SE reps saying one thing in an interview and then doing the complete opposite a few months later. So they could have mog house expansions coming anyway. Who knows.
Anyway, FFXI still looks pretty sweet...

o Windows 2000/XP
o Intel Pentium III 800Mhz or faster processor
o 128MB RAM, 8GB hard drive space
o DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
o DVD-ROM drive, 56K or faster Internet connection
o GeForce series or Radeon 9000 series video card with 32MB RAM
Whats your point lol? Everyone knows that the min requirements are what you need if you want 1-10 fps and the game to barely run.
Bradson, I totally agree that FFXI on the PC looks really good. I just think people tried to ignore the basic fact that the limitations are not on the graphics but on the system functions because of the PS2. I think Square is lying a lot too that the PS2 is limiting what they can do, but until they stop being lazy its what people have to blame.
Finally someone on here that knows what theyre talking about when it comes to the ps2. Why do other games on the ps2 look absolutely stunning?Originally Posted by Brandson

Because other ps2 games would have you vs. fafnir, not you vs. fafnir with 150 people standing next to you. You have to sacrifice a bit of graphical power for mmos over single player games, but a game looking good still wasn't the core problem with the ps2, and thats its memory (supposedly).Originally Posted by Wildbanned4
Square is the only game developer out there who knows the PS2 inside out, they even know it's capabilities better than Sony themselves, so if they claim the PS2 is holding them back then omg, it IS holding them back, no point arguing over it, just absorb it, take it in and move on.
I'd like to say though, I think FFXI still looks pretty damn sweet and I'm a PS2 player. The original release zones look a bit meh today but the newer zilart/CoP zones look great. I wonder if S-E could release FFXI for the PS3 and 360 and eventually move on, leaving the PS2 behind.
FFXI for PS3 would definetly be something to see.
I have a question Xav. You have always been an extremely fervent player of FFXI, or "haijin" with 6 jobs at 75, arco de velocidad etc. What I don't quite understand is, why is it that after a few weeks playing WoW, you believe the game is infinitely superior to FFXI which you played for twenty months? It just seems that since going to WoW you have suddenly decided that FFXI sucks - which I find pexuliar as you were one of the most enthusiastic, hardcore FFXI players I've ever seen. I'm just wondering if there was a specific point at which you decided FFXI just wasn't worth it any more?
if you have your head in a pile of shit, its all you know and you love it.
Then you go up for air....

I've never once said WoW was infinitely better..I've defended it as a game and I've talked shit about FFXI, but I don't believe I've claimed it to be a better game, just that I enjoy it more right now, and think its future is more promising.Originally Posted by Revenant2
I also didn't randomly decide that FFXI sucks, I've thought endgame, and I can't stress this enough, endgame in FFXI has blown since I got access to sky. People seem to take out of context praise for one game and complaints about another as some sort of betrayal.
To answer the question, a few specific points led me to a different game.
1.) Square on the record saying the PS2 is the reason they cannot add so many new features to the game. Thats bullshit, MMOs are made to expand in more than just # of zone areas.
2.) When I realized that I had been camping the same 3 nms for over a year as the main source of endgame gear, while waiting for new cursed to be added to the CoP wyrms only to find out it wasn't coming. After the thrill of killing the wyrms the first time, why exactly were we expected to keep killing them? Why did Square add such worthless mobs to the game? How difficult would it REALLY be to add amazing gear to the hardest mobs in the game? Why did a lv 55 crab in Jugner Forest that could be soloed drop a FAR better item than a lv 95 wyrm that took 35 men to kill? Stupid endgame design, I got fed up.
AF2 with worthless stats, 40%ish of cursed gear with retarded stats. It seemed like every cool part of FFXI was brought down by extremely poor planning and "wtf" stats on gear.

Example:
I think everyone can agree the Radeon 9200 is a shitty, outdated card.
Right?

While the area doesn't look really impressive (I zoomed in too much, look at the structure on the rock, lol) IMO my character looks very detailed.
*Admin edit: I ninjaed your picture into a url because it was so massively large and distorted the rest of the page.
While I completely agree with your post, I do have one question for you. Perhaps you don't consider missions as endgame, you didn't like CoP? honestly I would have quit myself if I didn't enjoy CoP storyline so much. and it has me really exited for treasures of afganistan storyline, basically CoP has roped me in for another 6 months of FFXI. Not that new jobs don't have an appeal also :wink:Originally Posted by Xavier
missions is finite and doesn't occupy your time, so therefore imo it shouldn't be considered endgame. endgame should deal with improving your character to take on the next challenge. you only have to be moderately equipped to do missions.Originally Posted by XxSlusherxx
you can go on hiatus for 6 months if your desire is to do more missions when the next batch of them come out. and this comes from someone who has done every mission in the game.
