i don't get it... i thought RMT meant real money trade, how is buying an Abjuration considered RMT (assuming you're paying them with gil as opposed to dollars or something)?

i dont think anything is wrong with buying abjurations, if a crafter wants to spend some of his profit on a piece of gear more power to him

It's when someone with a top crafting level of 23 spends 50m on an abjuration that brings up the discussion.

Don't get me wrong, probably 80% of my gil from high HQ's is paid for by RMT'd monies...so i'm probably doing as much or more to support RMT as FI is just by being a 100 crafter. Hard to figure out where to draw the line :/

oh okay. i was just confused for a second i thought i had the wrong definition of RMT. yeah anyone with that much gil and a craft to 23 is pretty fishy, unless he's in some HNMLS, but even then its still hard to get that kind of gil.

It defeats the purpose of playing the game. The idea behind the gear is that you get a group of people together who have enough strategy and skill to kill hard monsters that reward you with good gear. Buying them defeats the purpose of endgame design, and the term RMT loosely applies to it now as something you didn't really earn. More than that, if you aren't killing the mobs in the first place, theres a 95% chance you do not need the gear that drops off them anyway, and looking pretty in Jeuno is your endgame fantasy.

The counter-argument is that claiming one of the mobs is really hard, and a far weaker (gayer) argument is that its hard to get enough people together capable of killing them in the first place.

The counter-counter argument is that Square doesn't have any concept of mass endgame appeal and the system itself is broken, but not impossible to be engaged in.
