Thanks for that painfully obvious observation. Holy shit, who argued that? The point is the difference between a Brown Belt and a Black Belt is not NEARLY as much as the difference between a Triumph Earring and a Brutal Earring. You take a MNK that has a Black Belt and a Triumph and one that has a Brown Belt and a Brutal Earring, the second one will always outparse the first one, all other things being equal.

All I'm saying is the Black Belt is kinda overrated as far as being the OMG BEST piece for a MNK.

Nothing is equal, do you have parses showing your brown belt, brutal earring wearing mnk vs the black belt, triumph earring mnks?

It isn't over-rated, it IS the OMG BEST PIECE for MNK, and seeing as only MNK can wear it rightfully so. A Black Belt turns you from a good mnk to a great MNK (if you were good before), it has so many uses from bumping up your DOT to decreasing the damage you take and the TP you give It helps you survive on mnk/nin, brutal earring only gives 5% DA, while that is good, the transition and feeling isn't as great as getting a black belt

it's 4 STR cause you have to consider the earring alternative and general margin of error would say "always" is a very strong word.

also BB is the pinnacle of being a MNK because other jobs can't use it. every job can get a Brutal Earring.

Also +7 acc (or more) and +7 atk on the Faith Torque is better than +2 STR and +4% haste too. Do you need a parse for that too?

The Black Belt is a fantastic, overpowered item. No one is arguing that. But so is the Brown Belt. This makes, by using simple logic, the Black Belt not nearly as overpowered as it's stats would suggest.

The Black Belt is a fantastic, overpowered item. No one is arguing that. But so is the Brown Belt. This makes, by using simple logic, the Black Belt not nearly as overpowered as it's stats would suggest.

Brown Belt is buyable, easily quested AND soloable, Black Belt isn't, that doesn't make it as overpowered as Black Belt.

I don't need a parse to see how strong +7skill is, but you really are underestimating haste. Besides, you're only looking at the transition from Brown Belt to black, 7STR 12% haste, -5%damage down +5SB however, IS better then a faith torque and brutal earring.

edit; even though the transition from brown > black isn't that big it's still pretty impressive, there are a lot of factors that depend on how effective an item is, calling a black belt overated is stupid just cause there's an earring with 5% DA, no factors are ever equal so unless you wanna parse all your things then I still stand by my opinion

Well that would be the difference right? What 60+ MNK doesn't have a Brown Belt? Especially 70+, when you don't need a Life Belt anymore, it's such a permament fixture to your waist that it may as well just be added to your base stats. So, assuming it's the default item for every MNK 70+, my point remains.

My position is that when people say "and he even has a Black Belt!" that doesn't mean as much as people think. There's better, comparative to what else you can wear in those slots, equipment out there. In that regard, it is overrated. People seem to think it's as crucial or as great as a Ridill is for a WAR/NIN, but that's not really the case.

Just bringing up brutal earring in the first place is a joke, why do people pay so much for a str+2 earring, because earrings as a whole suck until brutal came out. so you can say that about any DD job. brutal earring will probly increase their damage output the most (as an upgrade). That being said, Blackbelt owns anything most other jobs can come across for solo blink tanking, when your solo subtle blow becomes sooo important.
