i wonder what type of fight Diablos will be like? will it be like Garuda, Titan, Ifrit etc. or(more likely) like a Fenrir style fight.

anyways to those who say "what good is the Phalanx BP", put a SMN in the tank pt against a heavy HNM and you'll understand. Even if it shaves off 17 damage(like Hoplon shield) it definitly adds up over time.

Also the Magic attack + BP sounds pretty hot for Fafhogg. I can see once update is over everyone who is in HNM will rush to the Aery while everyone else does Diablos or levels dragoon.

Main theories are you need to have beaten Diablos in CoP and you need to have completed Tuning In and Tuning Out (two windy quests from the Fenrir guy about finding a lost protocrystal of darkness).

there's also a quest in upper jeuno (in the church) regarding visiting the avatar gates in pso'xja, might be there as well

yeah, but the quest is open ended, and the NPC wonders what would happen if all the avatar gates were reactivated. Since the update notes depict diabolos in shrouded maw it's still a viable quest starter D:

I've done Tuning In/Out, as well as the Phoenix Pearl one. I doubt the Phoenix Pearl one will have anything to do with it, but if it does, it won't hurt those who haven't done it yet.. its pretty easy and no farming required.

What will hurt is if Tuning In/Out is required.

If you don't know, this is what is involved:

Farm a rare/ex Spruce Lumber that only drops off of 3 mobs in Phomiuna Aqueducts. Only those 3 Stegotaurs near the entrance, only in the aqueducts, nowhere else, no other mobs. They're also soloable by some jobs (I soloed as SMN). The drop rate didn't seem so bad, but maybe I was lucky. Point is, when only 3 mobs in the game drop an item needed, and you don't need parties to farm them, good luck claiming any when every SMN and wanna-be SMN is there trying to get them too.

Farm a rare/ex Extra-Fine File off Fomor in Lufaise Meadows that spawn only from 22:00 to 4:00. There are more mobs that can drop the file than could drop the lumber, but they are still few and far between, and only during a 6 game-hour window. Good luck getting those, too. I also hear the drop rate is horrible. Took me a few nights of farming to get one, and I was the only one killing the fomor.

Farm a rare/ex Magicked Steel off goblins in Oldton Movalpolos. This is probably the easiest item to get, but since I got this item randomly before I even knew it was for this quest, I don't know how bad of a drop or how many mobs exactly drop it.

For Tuning Out, the only rare/ex item is Habaneros, and those drop off mantraps in Misareaux Coast. There's plenty of those, though, so shouldn't be a problem. But if you've ever had competition farming Diatryma in the Coast, for example, it'd probably be like that only with more camp spots and more people.

The other two items for Tuning Out are buyable. Mutton Tortilla is sold in the tavern in Windurst Waters by an NPC, so that's a non-issue. Black Curry is the only item you'll have to have made or buy off AH.

Either way, if Tuning In/Out is required, good luck with the competition if you haven't already done it.

Tuning In/Tuning Out isn't about Diabolos, it's about the celestial Avatar of Darkness who, based on the star charts, would be Odin. While this doesn't mean that Diabolos can't be off of that series, it's pretty strong evidence against it, I think.

I'd have to assume based off the strength of the SMN stoneskin that the phalax would be coming in at a pretty high level too. If you toss out a blink tank w/ stoneskin and phalax that gets to keep their ability to hold hate, I think he'll be pretty much invincible throughout the fight as long as they're reapplied once in a while.
