Alright, 40 was a bit exaggerated. That's RDM/NIN with Phalanx up so I don't know for sure what the damage is to mages in general. With Dalmatica and Dream Shroud today I took 118 from Tiamat while he's in flight (as SMN).

Dream Shroud and Noctoshield in combination, however, did an effective 40+ dmg reduction for PLD's for every hit during flight.

yup, just had a 45 minutes Kirin today, cut time by 15 minutes (ya, I know we slow =P)

Alright, my first test was bugged. I guess the PLD I was with before had a jelly ring and I forgot to check. I took a 74 PLD out with to altepa, who didn't have a jelly ring (just 2 +4 vit rings). Defense unbuffed was 407. I even unequipped several pieces of gear to drop myself to 150ish defense.

We both took 320 from 1000 needles (Diabolos was out, too). So, -13 for both.

Next up, we equipped everything, buffed with Pro 4, and he stacked on Defender, Rampart, and Sentinel. He had 640ish if I remember. We both still took 320. -13 again.

Seems pretty conclusive to me, now. You aren't getting more than -13 at 75. SMN skill does not affect it. Level might, but not sure what Noctoshield would do at 48-50 when SMN gets it.

The only good news to report, is that -physical damage % gear is subtracted from the equation first, and then the -13 is applied.
