Now, on to Armor upgrading. SE has implemented this for AF with Limbus, and AFv2 with the new Dynamis areas. However, these upgrades do not take gil...just drops from said areas, some of which are annoying as hell. What I am proposing is an NPC who will add stats to non-AF armor. Be it purchased, crafted, or dropped, rare/ex or not...this NPC can add stats, abilities to your gear...for a price of course. What upgrades are available are dependant on the level/type of armor. For example:

    1-10 Armor: No upgrades.

10-20 Armor: A few. Melee armor could have some HP/STR/DEX/AGI added, Mage armor could have MP/CHR/MND/INT added. Prices for upgrades would be in 1000-9999 range.

20-30 Armor: Same as above. Maybe a few more boosts. Prices rise to upto 20000

30-50 Armor: Along with the above...attack accuracy, and the like are now options. Certain upgrades will cost upto 500k

50-75 Armor: Now the big boys. Auto-Refresh, Regen, Double Attack, and the like are now options. But these will cost you up to 10 million.

To balance things out, every armor will not have every option available to it. Someone cannot take an Errant Houppelande and turn it into an Osode...but as it is mage gear...Auto-Refresh could be added for 5 million.

To allow for +1 armor, these +1's would have more options open to them than the NQ's from the NPC. For example, Dragon Harness could have Triple Attack +5% added to it for 10 million. Dragon Harness+1 could have Triple Attack +8% added to it for the same price. This makes the +1 still wanted. This means crafters will be cranking out the armor synths, possibly buying materials from NPC's....removing more gil from the system.

    All upgraded armor becomes Rare/Ex.

This system would allow players to customize theuir armor to suite their game play. Are you a SMN who like to solo...spend millions on getting a free Fenrir...or are you a SMN who likes big damage in a short time (like me)...spend millions on Avatar Attack and -BP timer. And the best part....billions of gil woul be removed as every HNMLS would have its players dumping all their money to pimp out their gil.
Nothing can stop the inflation because its due to mass duping, but regardless, thats a really nice system that will never get implemented but would own pretty hard if it was. WoW has something similar w/ enchanting gear, pretty nice way to pimp out already pimp gear.

I think armor shouldn't be upgradable until +60 ;o. Also I doubt it would be store about. And lastly, I'd avoid allowing buffing up Haub/erk/SH/Verm because they already cost a lot ;o.

The traditional (aka EverQuest) way to get rid of inflation is by causing deflation -- introduce a bunch of new, increasingly powerful Exclusive equipment with each expansion to the game, and people won't care about in-game currency because it can't buy anything good. Thankfully, S-E hasn't gone this route, and it seems unlikely that they'll get close to it anytime soon; they are deathly afraid of making characters more powerful (witness the latest weird armor sets like the Homam gear, or the joke that is Relic +1 armor.) If they would trend slightly more in this direction, though, it would help somewhat. Imagine if they added an end-game item that surplanted the Scorpion Harness in power; the price of the SH would drop, or at least slow down in it's meteoric price rise. It's not even a matter of power, as it is giving people viable options; when it comes to end-game gear, there are 1-2 pieces of gear on each slot for almost every job that are head and shoulders superior to anything else available. This is especially true when you look at only the items that can be purchased.

As mentioned by many people, what the game really needs is more gil sinks, to slowly draw down the gil in the economy. WoW of course does this brilliantly with their item maintenance costs, but that seems far too complicated and indepth to ever put into FFXI.

The armor upgrade via cost is a terrific idea, and would help pull money back out. The biggest reason is the notion that these upgraded items would be Exclusive. By and large, there aren't money sinks in FFXI right now that end in Exclusive gear, and this would help in that aspect.

If S-E is so scared to make characters more powerful, they could go the route of giving them conveniences, for a price. Some examples:

-- Personal Chocobos: you purchase an item for 1 million gil, with a 100k a week upkeep, that allows you to summon a chocobo anywhere that they can normally be ridden, once every 15 minutes.
-- Chocobo Upgrades: Endless upgrades to the above chocobo, for a cost. Different colors, cool-looking armor, faster speeds, the ability to bring multiple characters along with you (a chocobo caravan?), etc.
-- Rare Flags: An NPC that removes Rare flags from certain items and makes them stackable. I'd pay 50k on each item just to be able to stack Sea or Sky pop items...
-- NPC Teleporters in Jeuno: A lower end convenience, but one that would help a lot. Make it 3-5k each to teleport, so White Mages can raise their prices if they really want to, but there's a cap on what it costs, and people with more money than time to wait can take one immediately.
-- City Movement: As mentioned above, a Jeunoan Aketeon would be incredibly popular. They could make a "cheap" one for 500k that increases movement 10%, and just crank it up from there.
-- Outside Movement: Items that let you run faster, by whatever percentage is appropriate. If they don't want to take away from the advantage of the current +movement items/spells, they can make them only activate in Outdoor zones, and make it stack with all the current stuff such as Mazurka. If they really want to be mean, they could restrict it to only working in places where your nation controls the region, as well.
-- Airship Times: Sell items that have a counter in them that shows when the next airships are arriving, at whatever city you're in.
-- NPC Items: Crank up the amount of the items that are sold in Guild/Tenshodo shops, and make the price keep rising accordingly. The current price/quantity should be saved through reboots, as well.

And the most useful convenience they could add, that they could charge practically any price and people would still do it...

-- Jeuno Rent-A-Room: Add a way for people to "rent out" rooms completely in Jeuno, so that all their furniture and storage is moved there. They could make a great storyline with the Tenshodo where Aldo sneaks your furniture in; if they want to really encourage people to do hard stuff, they could make it only possible once you have completely finished the Zilart missions... however they do this, they could charge gil every week plus an up-front cost, and people would still flock to it. If they did this, they could increase the convenience and gil drainage by also putting in "rogue" Outpost Teleporters in Jeuno run by the Tenshodo, who would send you to the outposts, for a very hefty fee.

Those are all additions to the game that would not change the "game balance" or power of characters, or any of the things that they seem so scared of doing. But it would make life much more convenient for the players that could afford it, and take out a nice chunk of gil at the same time.

Cuer's suggestions seem the least-influencial on other parts of the game. They should let you build a moghouse in tavnazia too though... and a tenshodo guy can go kick it there to teleport you or w/e also... I prefer that to jeuno 8)

Hell they added purchasable Mannequins, which potentially took out 1.75mil from the economy per person. I know i got all 7 (beside the 1 I got from the quest.) Introducing more things like this I think will slowly help out the economy.

I think people look at WoW's moneysinks and assume that's the reason that their item system works better than FFXI's. The truth is that the people who don't want to farm to pay for WoW's moneysinks just RMT the gold anyway. Chinese farmers infest WoW servers just as much as in FFXI, but they can't impact the game as much there. The difference is that a lot of stuff in WoW just isn't RMTable (most raid gear and most quested gear is bind on pickup). Also, your ability to make money scales with your level and isn't dependent on if you manage to kill some Level20 NM and get its drop.

That means that at level60, money is only good for an epic mount (1 time thing), random world drops / crafted items (which for the most part aren't as good as raid gear or top-end PvP gear), and repair costs. And even if you did find a group who would give you raid gear for money, it's not like that's going to affect Group B's ability to get gear for themselves in their own instance, as opposed to someone paying an FFXI LS 80 million for an abjuration that that LS doesn't need but another LS does.

The root of the problem is not with the amount of gil on an FFXI server anymore. The problem is what you can get with that gil (virtually anything) and how it hurts people who can't or won't throw gil at people to get items.

This would work if the smart people didn't have their homepoint set in starter cities and kept up on their outposts. Otherwise I like most posts here, many ways to draw gil without being too outlandish. My favorite idea was the one about the NPC teleporters though, I don't know how many times I've wanted to get to Konschtat fast and it took 10 minutes just to get a tele.

I burn money so fast between sheihei, auction house fees, chocobo, 2x Limbus, 2x Dynamis /week, medicines, reraise items etc. etc. I'd really really fucking like to know how to make money out of thin air at 6k/second.

I can farm items to sell to players to get THEIR money (and burn 200k out of existence in AH fees doing it), but I can't for the life of me figure out how I could generate 6k gil per second from NPCs like you're suggesting.

As long as inflation is a constant around the board, it really doesn't need fixing. It would be nice if things stabilized and never went up or down anymore but it's really not a big deal. Silk thread is 70k a stack on Bahamut an increase of 700% since I joined the game. Emperor Hairpin was like 2.5 mil last I checked which is also near 700% increase since I joined... inflation is up, the economy is however stable. Personally in order to "Fix" things I would just start farming instead of complaining because nothing has really changed.

Stabalizing inflation so prices don't change requires a lot of effort and will on a grand scale really not dastically change anything except that something 6 months ago will cost the exact same number it cost before. The inherant value of that item will not have changed though accomplishing very little. If you ask me, there are more important issues in need of addressing.

Buyable Kindred seals & Beastmen Seals.
Not that they're hard to come by now, but it would make doing BC/KS fights on the fly with a group of friends easier and faster. Plus if people can do the fights more often the chances of getting the sought after items increases as well.

When supply increases and demand stays the same the people will start undercutting to sell their items quicker. This may have a positive influence on the high priced "necessary" items.

    Colliseum
You bid money, dependent on the amount of money you bid at the counter you get warped to a certain instanced battle. These instanced battles can be done with 1,3,6,12,18 people etc and depending on how much money you bid and the amount of members you enter into the arena with difficulty is adjusted.

This sounds alot like Limbus/Dynamis I know, but since you're paying gil for it you'll want some bang for your buck so they'll make the drops in the colliseum ra/ex and the droprate way higher then dynamis. If they make it possible to go in constantly without a timeoutperiod ( i.e dynamis I don't know about Limbus) that would probably get people to try it out more.

You could even make it so that you bid enough money for an instanced battle versus a ground king with the same loot pool but a slightly increased droprate. Noone would camp the regular ground kings anymore safe for the linkshells that wouldn't be able to afford the money needed to bid at the colliseum to get those instanced battles.

You might say what about the linkshells that both have the money to do the instanced battles and the manpower to camp the regular areas as well? Well they take the risk of spending 3+hrs just like the "poorer" linkshells in the area when they could've been spending those 3 hours making money to pay for an instanced battle at the colliseum. It'll always remain a game of luck in that field I guess.

This could work well for people who can spend their time on crafting and making assloads of money to spend on the colliseum but don't want to or can't sit around in aery, behedom, vos waiting for a monster they may or may not claim.

Alot of people who have earned their abj. for koenig, adaman berk etc might think this is unfair since they had to work and camp like crazy for their item. But lets face it "work" is an exageration when we're talking about killing fafnir, behemoth or ada or any of their HQ forms for any competent experienced linkshell. Its all about claiming the damn thing anyway. So if that crafter or RMT has the money to pay for an instanced battle vs that king then why the hell not he'll still need a group of dedicated friends to actually fight the mob.

my apologies for any grammar mistakes english is not my first language.

Buyable XP scrolls. Limit it to once per week, and make it cost about 100k. The ~1000 XP/week won't break the game, but it will help those with money get XP on jobs they hate leveling, and it will drain money.

Buyable XP scrolls is retarded. It is already easy enough to xp. This will just increase the influx of noobs that are 75 that will now be able to straight up RMT xp. I say make certain drops from NMs/HNMs that are killed by gilsellers buyable from NPCs at a set price. Price should be 85% of what the server's current going price on AH is. That might not work either lol. Venemous claw for cheaper than AH sounds nice but every noob would have a SH, wait every noob already has one.
