Then that doesn't make the BC easy, that means you're good at following directions.Originally Posted by XxSlusherxx

if you want to argue that the BCs are difficult for the player on their first job getting to Lv__ then sure, but for a Lv75? no way, hardest thing about CoP was figuring out the fastest way to mule your 75gear so you could buy shit for 50cap.
Who are you to say what my interpretation of easy is?Originally Posted by FFXIFlux

Diabolos was a complete fucking joke. We went in and won on our test run knowing only to get together tight in the far right corner as to not fall.
Promyvion-Vahzl we won on our test run. This was before it was nerfed so you could access the top floor immediatly. We used no Anima's in the BC (if they even work). If you're trying to imply that the first three Promyvions are hard then I don't know if I should even type anymore. Yes, we won all three on our first attempt before they were nerfed (when the porters opened for no more than ten seconds and were constantly fakes). WAR/RNG/RNG/SMN/RDM/WHM = joke.
Snoll Tzar we won on our second run because we didn't know about Heimal Storm and it owned us all in one shot. We used no Salt because back then it needed four for a single one and the cluster items were EX.
Trackers we won on our second run by just owning it with Astral Flow. We didn't use the item that stops the meditation simply because it was retarded to get. Have they nerfed this mission and taken the EX tag off that too?
We beat Ultima and Omega on our forth attempt, most of it was just getting down a tactic of killing the Mammets fast enough. We didn't use a CCB Polymar when we won because we'd used one earlier and couldn't work out what the fuck they did.
You read "test run" because we did these when they were first implemented and very few strats were known. We would do up to the last mission every single time then be ready and waiting to do them upon version up. The only person I know had done these before us was some Bard called Mushi... I have on idea what server he's on.
Alla's not entirely stupid. Some of the job specific forums have lots of useful information in them. At least the THF one does, it's far better than the KI THF forum and has a lot of really smart posters.
not using the items... I am impressed. If the items were hard to get in the past thats changed now. I farmed for mismelts solo on ninja, and made about 3 M off headfeathers in the process. cluster cores can be gotten in uncapped areas. Yellow liquid I bought but never used, then muled for airship but never used. CCB polymer is not hard to farm either.Originally Posted by Russta
I'm really impressed by your lack of item use, but I will say this, if you thought that was easy, it's a COMPLETE joke with the use of the items.
Russta is 100% badass. I remember using his LJ ages ago as the only source of CoP info when I did the missions.![]()
Russta also fails to realize that 90% of all FFXI players aren't half as good as the group of people he plays with, and many of us here who have gone through these missions. When I do something with my LS, wether its a mission or a BC, I wonder to myself why SE makes things so easy. Its only when I try something with a pickup group do I realize that its not as easy as I thought it was.![]()
Pickup groups almost always suck, mainly because generally people who are good at this game know that pickup groups suck and thus make static groups. Self-fulfilling prophecy.
I really like CoP. I really don't like the end-game from it, the Jailers and such (especially since Love = the hardest and that's the one my torque is from) but I think overall it's a very nice expansion. Compared to the rest of FFXI it's a lot harder and much more challenging. With a good group it's not that bad, you're right. But compared to the earlier BC fights it's cake. Divine Might is probably the hardest BC pre-CoP and that's a lot easier than a number of the CoP mission BC's IMO.
I too did many missions without item use (didn't use any on trackers or Snoll, never used Anima) and I did do the Promy's pre-nerf, but didn't get much else done after >.>
But I had a lot of fun doing CoP and I think the new zones are great. I actually like the idea of level capped areas because as many people will say, each job has their time to shine. Drg's and thf's are very powerful in lower levels so we could get an exp pt for Riverne A and get some nice merits there. I like the addition of Fomors and the story is a lot cooler than RoZ.
I think CoP is a great expansion overall just really fails at a couple things lol. If those couple things are all you do in this game then I can see how you'd think they fail but oh well.

It took you four tries, knowing what to do and coming prepared with polymer, to do Ultima, and no doubt you also had a good group with top gear. I'd suggest if you're going to use the word easy in your future postings that you put an asterix beside it and include a note at the bottem of your message: "when I say easy I really mean so difficult that I can barely do without some luck."
We did circles without weakeners because we didn't know they existed for the most part. Most of the CoP circles were as tough or tougher than any other encounter in FFXI, and introduced a lot of things to the game that either didn't exist or were very rare. Before CoP and the ENMs the only really challenging fight I can even think of was the optical needle BC. These added in flying dragons, dropping floors, linked hate, throat stabbing bosses and numerous other moves. The only reason you'd call them "easy" now is because they're a year old and passe.
I'm looking forward to the new expansion to be as good as CoP was in some ways. Taking a year to complete and having little in the way of end game raiding, jailer drop rates, AV as a final boss are not on my list, but the story and BCs for CoP was top notch and it would be great if Treasures of Whyareyoustillplaying had as good a storyline and as fun and challenging encounters.
But some jobs (RDM and SMN for example) are very late bloomers and are not that useful in lower level zones. After playing RDM at level 75, playing at 30, 40, and 50 is an utter nightmare because we get so much good stuff after those levels. (Dispel and Phalanx, Refresh and haste, AF and elemental staves.)Originally Posted by Eaglestrike
I honestly wish they made two different sets of missions: one a capped progression and the other tooled for 75- although RDM was useful on many missions I would have been even more useful if I could implement the useful skills and gear I was given. (I literally cry every time I cast Stoneskin at level 50, at 75 I cast it in less than half the time. The same with haste and refresh, Warlock's Chapeau and Duelist's Tabard ftmfw!)
I'm not quite sure how you find a correlation between something confined to six people and something you can throw an infinite amount of Black Mages at. If your prerogative is to put words into my mouth and constantly make assumptions then feel free to do so but I'm talking purely about the definition of easy when it comes to CoP missions. If you enjoy shouting in Jeuno for members and forcing difficulty onto yourself unnecessarily then all the power to you.Originally Posted by FFXIFlux
Where did I say I knew what to do? On the contrary, most of my posts show we didn't know what to do on most stuff because we were early adopters. I also said we used one Polymar on a failed run and never used them again because we didn't know what they did. And "a good group with top gear"? Again making assumptions; I actually had to buy all of our Paladin's level cap EQ.It took you four tries, knowing what to do and coming prepared with polymer, to do Ultima, and no doubt you also had a good group with top gear.
I had a lot of fun with CoP, too.
By no means was I even close to being the first through the missions, and sometimes it was months after the missions were released before I could get to them. I had a variety of groups and statics to get through the missions, and most of the time we lost at least once, even with strategies and items prepared. And after most of the nerfs, too.
But every time I saw things like the last mammet go down, or Ultima go down, I felt an extreme rush. It was like, "Damn, we did it! We beat it!" Each mission was a challenge, and I don't think the elation of victory would have been so great, if it hadn't have been challenging.
Even today, I gladly go along on COP runs for strangers and for friends. Even pickup groups, but then again, I'm crazy like that. I just want everyone to experience the story as I have. I want people to see Al'tieu.
And Limbus has been the best thing since Dynamis, IMO. Better than Dynamis. It's a fun Alliance romp through various mob types, all with their own peculiar behavior. And it rewards better players, through more coins if you can cut through them with 6 instead of 18. The new earrings and mantles are nice, as is a lot of the AF+1. No need to count on Dynamis drop rates for AF2, when you can work faster toward decent end-game gear with Limbus.
Only thing I'd change is making Temenos as short a trip as Apployn, for the Ultima/Omega fights. >_>
But yeah. CoP was both fun with fights and story, and very rewarding with the rings and Limbus. And eventually, they'll do something to Sea.
As an expansion pack CoP fails miserably.
However, as a mission pack it's not half bad and the story is about as good as you can get for an online game.
I'd like to know why you say fails miserably. Aside from end-game 'sky-like' content, I don't see anything bad really. Well, Wyrms too.
But they offered a number of additional places to exp (Bibiki Bay, U. Range, Lufaise). An alternative to busy Jeuno in Tavnazian Safehold as well as the missions.
Do you think it failed because there were no new races? Because there were no new jobs? There were a number of mob types added in CoP, sea mobs are awesome, IMO.
Like I said, I can see where some people can be unhappy with Jailers sucking and whatnot. That I understand, but there was a lot more to this expansion than that. I enjoy FFXI because it's more difficult and things aren't handed to you quite so easily. It makes this game more fun to me.
I personally feel that it fails miserably because I saw the difference RoZ made to FFXI. I'm not baiting anyone when I say this but the simple fact is most NA players take RoZ zones for granted because they never knew what it was like without them.Originally Posted by Eaglestrike

-Sky2 aka: Sea
-new HNM's with gear rivaling stuff from kings
Sea is a flop. Mobs with out 100% pop item drop rates and an inexistant loot pool. There is ZERO money in sea. Yet Sky, theres countless money to be made.
the new HNM's for CoP suck. They fucking suck. If there was gear that came close to the shit that kings drop, I wouldnt have to deal with 200 people in the aery for a NQ fafnir.
I can't speak for how RoZ expansion went, but having, what, 75-80% of the endgame content in the CoP expansion locked for over a year is pretty abysmal.
Do you know what it feels like to wait 2 months to be able to enter a door, only to find out there's a new door blocking your way for another 2 months?
Really, the full mission storyline should've been available upon release, and the actual endgame to CoP should've started coming out within a few months after that.
