Back to the 360 side of this thread... I highly doubt that the release is going to bring in a 'flood of noobs'. We're talking about a brand new, high cost, limited availability console here. Not one that had already been out for, oh... 3? 4 years? And, the system being SO expensive, and so new, means the majority of people investing into FF through it, are going to be older, (maybe) maturer people. Anyhow... I know I'll be getting it for my 360 :D The only reason I ever look at PS2 is for Dynamis, and other uberlag situations. Otherwise, it sits there collecting dust... love the constant FPS, hate the gamma/crap resolution. 360's gonna take full advantage of both worlds, and I'll be able to play it in HD, so I ain't complainin'.

Well, I play on my laptop, so when it's like... oh... freezing temperature in my house, it heats up like Father O'Grady on li'l Timmy. In a party, I'm like to get 11FPS with most settings turned down. On paper my laptop can play FF in full blast, but that's only on paper. So ya, I run to my PS2 when I need the speed. Otherwise I can't handle looking at PS2, so ugly! lol

My cousin bought an XBOX360 on their first wave... now they are getting called back in January (or so i hear)...

I would love to try FFXI on a 360, but if you don't have an 42' LCD Screen to play with, it's kinda useless...

I might try to get a 360. Sitting at college with my 19" monitor is all fine and dandy, but I have a 56" flatscreen sitting at home literally unused... Can't bring it to school simply because it literally won't fit in the door Have an S-video cable for my PC, but PC > TV simply doesn't look all that hot.

If you've ever tried playing Guild Wars on a slow/saturated connection, you'll know what I'm talking about. Even on a low-latency connection, it just feels bad.
The thing is though that the server doesnt have any form of disputing if you really should or shouldn't be there.

    ie:
    Welcome to Boyahda Tree
    *10 seconds later*
    Welcome to Dragon's Aery

Actually... it does... its just not very accurate. Played around with a speedhack a while back (long since broken by updates, no need for flaming =p ) If you zone too quickly, it won't let you... and I wouldn't doubt that it flags you to a GM or some such. For example, teleport to Mea, use speedhack to flee to Maze of Shakrami zone, try to zone in...

    Unable to enter this area.
    Unable to enter this area.

In nice big red text. Then again, it seems like they really should put some sort of failsafe into the program... How hard can it be for the game to realize someone just jumped a ten minute's walk in seconds? At the very least they could disable (refuse to accept data transfers) of any distance crossed in a given amount of time that isn't possible with the usage of any speed enhancing items... Seems kinda ridiculous how much someone can teleport without being noticed. Something like MrArgus to teleport a few feet away might be a bit 'discreet' (could be the distance travelled while R0'ing for all SE knows, not able to punish for that) but warping across an entire zone instantly is somewhat obvious.

oh but there used to be a tool that let you zone automatically, no moving required :D it would send a 6 or so digit hex code to the server, which is what is sent when you zone. you could zone from anywhere as fast as you wanted. you could go from jeuno to dragon's aery much faster than you could using a teleport hack. you could probably get there in about 10 seconds so you can solo fafnir when it pops

edited for lack of puncuation lol

Don't give SE so much credit, it doesent let you enter the next area because it does not reconize the walking speed you are set at. This is kinda like a thing that just happend unintended, it wouldent be that hard for the server to check your speed every 30 seconds or so. lol SE is just stupid. It does check your speed when you zone, but FFS if its at a 'illegal' value it just doesnt let you enter the area, no GMs are notified or anything. If the GM were too look at you log they would see it but then again, they have to look at the log.

Also, the only reason it checks your speed, is so it can set it after you zone, and it dosent let you zone because it does not reconize the current one (super flee) its not like they even tryed to stop the hacks.
