I'm sure your friend appreciates your campaign that would most certainly get him fired if any of it seemed to be true. Quite frankly, gil selling is not solely responsible for the economy problems and while the gil sellers themselves are annoying there is a large foundation of players that depend on gil selling, it is my understanding that outside of NA it's not all that taboo. You will of course find people with a firm stance against it everywhere you go but there are in fact people who depend on it.
I think the goal of an MMORPG company is not to eliminate it but facilitate it in such a way that it doesn't effect the players who don't participate in it. SE failed in that regard though, big time. If gilsellers just operated in the background making gil without monopolizing NM's and bothering us farming then I don't think we would be blaming them as much for the economy being spoiled as it is. Inflation is a product of more gil being introduced to the system then there are items to be bought with said gil, and that is a huge problem with this game. Items are too damn rare... especially in the HNM scene. So you have all these players with obscene amounts of money literally battling out on who can buy this item with price not being a large issue due to it's rarity and people selling these items knowing they can get more than what the last price history said and capitolizing on it as any one of us would.
My point is, gil sellers don't kill gobs for their gil drops or vendor all their items for cheap as opposed to using the auction house. They deal in items, sell them on the auction house and if anything contribute to deflation on a very small scale.
This game fails at creating money sinks, beastmen drop gil. Thieves can mug NM's, have gilfinder trait and most everyone subs thief whilst farming. There are items that can be vendored as well lbecause they hold no material value to anyone and people want to sell them fast. Times that all by the population of the server and then counter that against the rarity of items... they are not directly linked... inflation is expected but nothing good comes from NPC really and price wars do depend on supply and demand. More changin hands on AH also means more money coming out too. Anyways my point is gilsellers are not the problem unless this OP's conspiracy theory is true which I doubt.
We are the guilty ones, any time you bazaar in Rolanberry instead of stomaching the 2% tax... YOU are contributing to inflation and making the problem worse. I don't see many gilsellers out there bazaaring.
Anyways fixing it now won't actually fix things, stability is key or at least have it controlled to inflate at a much slower rate. Just plain removing gil like mad will create a stock market crash type effect. A lot of us will get very poor and then those who sit on their money with patience will suddenly find they have multiplied the value of their gil 1000 times over. Then with that rarity of items factor those rich people will be controlling the prices and people will find it hard obtaining some of the best items for sure.

SE is doing something about gilsellers...
Amemet has a new spawn now, that was one of the first NM's they went to camp.
Other heavily camped NM drops are rare/ex and there is a BCNM for the items.
Now MPKing is much more unlikely than before.
Now we're down to basically two things about gilsellers:
Con: People can buy gil and inflate the economy by buying at any price they care for.
Pro: All lotto NM's are being killed fairly quickly so there are more of those drops being sold.
I have to wonder how inflation would be if you could not bazaar outside of a city, i.e. Batallia/Rolanberry. Think of the gil spent on taxes and how many millions of gil would be taken out of the economy by doing this.
I actually think bird prices should be higher. Basic bird price (normal Rabao price) is less gil than I get off a Gigas kill. You're telling me a giants pocket change is higher than a rental car fee?
The problem is there is too much gil in the economy and it needs to be taken out. However, the players do their best to avoid this, which ends up hurting them in the long run.
This thread jumped the shark as soon as it was posted. The BG forums don't exactly have a reputation as a place where people stand around singing campfire songs and holding hands, but at least it's mostly free of Allakhazam-style naivete and outright foolishness.
The original poster made an outrageous claim with no real evidence to back it up, and defended his argument by flaming the people who disagreed and calling them names. This thread makes me wish these forums were running on vBulletin or something with an Ignore feature.
Edit: grammar is hard

Can someone tell me what this topic is about?
I thought Square Enix were figthing gil sellers.
Russta gotta completely agree with you on this one, Hey canadian guy with horrible sentence structure, please go back to allakazam forums, there are other people who dont like to work for the game there.
I personally, along with maybe 90% of this forum have earned my way through ffxi, and i will admit, it has taken an insane amount of time.
Even now, after my kirin osode, speed belt, clothcraft at 98.6+3 (great guide aurik^^), 4 other crafts at 95+, forming a successful hnmls, I still play 10+ hours a day.
Battle go play, get off these forums, the 6 hrs a day you are refreshing this topic just so you can post the same thing you said in your orignal post, you could actually be getting somewhere in the game.
It is sad when you see a thf in a social ls with a dragon harness +1 on a server with 2 ls that regularly kill the cop wyrms, but its also testament to thier credit card statement, let them have thier gear, dont let em join your shell so as to disgrace what you have worked so hard for.
This game is about team work, and as such, i will point out something.
RMT have the best focus in the game, and the best teamwork in the game. If just one hnmls could get the focus and teamwork that those rmt shells have, they would be unstoppable.
Square enix job is to provide us with content, for as long as they can milk it. It is what makes them money. They make 13 dollars a month from every gilsellers acct too, if you honestly cant handle it, then quit.
i can make 3-4 mil a day easily crafting if i try, and still play only 6-7 hrs.
A gil buyer has to work a week irl to buy 50 mil gil. i get to be with my friends on a game and do the same.
Square enix doesnt sell gil, shut up.
Go do something productive. Like buying those much needed tampons and midol for your vaginal leak.
Yes i'm a dick.
FLAME ON MTFR"S!

Ok while the economy may be in a horrific state, surely comparisons being made between FFXI and a nazi concentration camp are misplaced and exaggerated? It's not like anyone is being forced to play ffxi against their will.
