Would you recommend that new players play FFXI?

I suggested the game to my neighbor.
He's doing well. He started few months ago and is already RNG61 on Midgardsormr (different server than me since he knew more friends playing on that server).
It's alway funny when I talk with him. Everything he's telling me that is going on on Midgardsormr. Here's the last thing he told me "I bought leaping boots for 2.8M and selled them back for 3.9M the next day"
I couldn't stop laughing and felt sad as well telling him things weren't like this long time ago.
I'm proud that he started to craft from the start. He makes his own arrows, a woodworker (I know he was above 60 last time we were talking about crafting). Also one of his friends make food for him and supply him with ninja tools.

I think the key for new players to have fun is to already know people playing.

I'm more worried for new players who doesn't know anyone, but I'm sure they can manage to do well.

LOL ^_^; i'll just shutup now I guess since everything I say is denile or a lie or w/e sorry if I have the meens to actually enjoy myself in the game because I rather be in a social LS with all my friends despite my level then be in a endgame LS where the stress makes it a miserable experience

that is very true!

this happen to our LS had this last year, my friend chris's 3D card couldnt handle the game when NA release came out, so a year goes by me and other RL friends get 70ish lvl and he gets a PC and decides to get FFXI outta the blue,
Due to his heavy work sheducle hes doesn't get to level as much as us but hes the most pimped out lvl 43 galka PLD out there

at first we thought he was gonna hate it cuz of the whole leveling up grind + drama but he likes the hell outta FFXI! and it made us enjoy it too
hehe go try leveling a job in the dunes with a bunch of friends over voice chat and some noobs, its instant comedy , i wouldnt level a low job with out an LS friend and a required plvler :wink:

we had this overnuke happy BLM once in the dunes so chris changes his voke macro to "STOP PROVOKING BLM!! ITS MY TURN {Provoke!}"
or retards that can never Skillchain in qufim...

but the most funniest event ive ever had in FFXI doing BCNM40 sprouts as a LS with RL friends with chris was tanking, we had to take a 20 min break from laughing so hard,

and just now i got news we had a coworker that just got FFXI and hes leveling SAM

haha we told him "YOUR SOON GONNA REGRET IT!"
but i can see us doin alotta new funny BCNM40s, dunes, qufims moments,etcs

but no RIDILLS & E. BODY ARE MORE IMPORTANT!!!!!! FRIENDS CANT GIVE YOU AN E-PNUS! ONLY DIMINISH IT!!! THEY ARE JUST EXTRA LOT LIABILITYS!

i do feel bad if anyone joins FFXI without prior friends that are lvl 70+ already... they are sooo boned
I'd pat them on the head and give them a copy of FF7

But more importantly... uh... is there like even any new people playing Everquest 1? ROFL

But i would play again, no doubt in my mind. This game has made me the happiest i've ever been...

And despite everything that goes on, you can still run out and buy the robe set, or leather armor, and pimp it out like a nublet. Better yet, run to the nearest storage NPC, and pull out your AF1 and wear each and every piece, it just feels good. Nothing like Whm AF1, holy shield, and blessed hammer to make a guy all nostalgic and teary-eyed

Enjoy the game for what it is, dont compare it to something its not. Go sit out in a level 1 area, and watch the nubs gain levels and /cheer all to themselves, makes you smile :D :D :D :D :D :D

Her name was Weexelle, mithra blm. We decided she was bigger, had more HP, had a bigger weapon; she could make it attack her, and i could use cure and make her glow purple and be ok! She was the tank, and i was the healer... I love this game ; ; I remember the first day, nighttime, i was using this spiffy new keyboard that i could use in the dark (glowed blue :D) and it wasnt all that great, and the keys stuck and i stopped moving and typing and responding to her. She just sat there next to me, and i use the little PS2 mini keyboard thing with the PS2 controller (yall know what i mean) and typed out little messages and i'm sorrys to her, and that i couldnt exp anymore for that day. Aww, this thread makes me enjoy the game just a little bit more *tear*

I want to make a mule one day another server, when Xbox360 comes out.

I'm going to make a HNM LS with only level 1 and 20s. I'm going to convince them we can really do Behemoth. We are going to get claim, at least I hope so, with an alliance of 18. This assuming we are able to surivive the trip to the open area. Anyway, its going to be an amazing amount of owning being done. The "Where is your god now" song is going to be playing the background, as noobie blood drips from the jaws of the behemoth. However, when we lose, I'll simply tell them our strategy could be better and tell them what we did wrong. I'm going to sound very sympathitic and stuff. Its going to be amazing.

I'd say if you want, but you are going to need a lot of paintence and a lot of tolerance. Also, don't go to forums. Ever. This one included. It will MAKE you hate the game.

actually i have to disagree with this one. because of this site, it has made me like FFXI more. i learned more of what i will be doing in the future, how to go about doing it, and what to expect from other people around it. because of the forums that i go to i talked 2 new people into playing the game.


There are complaints here pretty often. For the most part though the people that bitch moan and groan havent done a damn thing to try to make a difference. In fact most of you that are complaining are one of the people making the problems that exist in the game worse.

ex. Complaining about RMT and prices going through the roof. But then going and paying 100million for any one item. OR selling an item for 100 million tht just a few months ago was say 40-50.


over all a new player cna easily start this game with no friends that play and still have fun and learn to play like we did. they may have to go about somethings differently. Buying more from NPCs etc or farming and personally crafting their own gear. Due to the fact that they wont be able to afford scale mail sooner or later.

Plus there is a lot of information out there on sites such as this. Though you have to filter through endless usless posts, insulting comments etc.

Exactly, I like it but that doesn't mean it's not bad for me.

Meh, basically I love where I am at this point in the game. The only thing is it was a long hard road to get here and I wouldn't wish that on someone even without todays current inflation. I can't imagine waking up and not logging on to spend time with my close friends in game which I guess makes it an addiction. I sometimes wonder if I could ever fully quit FFXI (not that I want to until PSU comes out).

For the players who feel or think about quitting but haven't quitted.
It's because they have hope that things will get better. We're just going through a bad phase (an economic crisis) but it will end. An economic crisis doesn't last forever.
