I think what a lot of people forget when considering what kind of build to use - is that Evading accumulates enmity too, aswell as damage. So whilst you're evading more, it's ensuring the safety of yourself, your party and it's building hate.

I know, it wasn't specifically aimed at you. I was just trying to justify Evasion Build NIN, and show people that DD NIN isn't the only way to play.

When I did play Ninja for a while, I actually had a party where I was I was one of the DDs. Setup was something like 48-49ish PLD NIN(me) WAR/THF BLM RDM WHM. This was around the time where I made my Luisant Haubert (which I regretfully sold a month or two ago ;. So my gear setup went like:

Main: Yoto+1
Sub: The AF katana with +2STR
Ranged: Junior Msk. Chakram +1 (for +2str in certain areas)
Head: Voyager Sallet :D
Neck: Spike
Earrings: Beetle+1 x2 (or switch one out for Moldavite during nin nuking)
Body: Luisant
Hands: O.kote
Rings: Snipers/STR
Back: Jaguar Mantle (Jaeger back then)
Waist: Swordbelt+1/Lifebelt/Vanguard Belt depending on what i'm doing and how the mob checks to me
Legs: Bastokan subligar ; ;
Feet: Federation Kyahan.

All this gear is basically lifted from my SAM minus the obvious things (katanas, ranged, moldavite). Anyways, couldn't tell you what the melee swings were like, but busting out 200-300 Blade: To's to open for a 300-500ish SA+sturmwind was lovely. Add a Huton+Raiton ni bursts and that's an easy 400-500ish damage if you don't get resisted.

Anywho, i was a DD NIN alot of times on the way up to 75. I had a couple of pt's with plds, they tanked and i was a DD who took hate when i needed to. I remember one pt in KRT me and the thf where owning, i was doing 2 SC's me and the sam then me and the thf cause i got tp twice as fast as most melee, sometimes we'd get an add and i'd just solo it till they killed the first one.

I also used to pt with alot of nins, 2 nins pt's was pretty much all i did 30-40 then when i hit 61-62 me and nikkei used to duo tank like everyday, she had a nice DD setup sonic belt, haubergeon etc, she used to tank with her DD gear i had a hauberk for drk so i just used my SH snipers and atk gear, with 2 nins u harldy need any mages just a bunch of dmg.

When i solo tanked i was a evasion whore for the most part only put DD gear when the mob had low acc or something, i used to fight IT++ mobs alot 64+ so i needed all the evasion i could get or i would be without shadows.

I had evasion/emnity/DD gear and adjusted them acordingly. i think thats the best way to go.

What Lupine said. It's still possible without a BRD if you have a good WHM or RDM (I'd normally ditch Haubergeon for Sharness, but still keep mostly DD-focused gear [And even then, Sharness was mostly for the ACC really, not the EVA]). Just be sure to keep an "Oh shit" equipment set for when your mages suck ass if you aren't in a static. Full arhats gear, mermaids/BQ ring, ect. Only time I really had to use the full thing was in moon with a shitty BRD and RDM...hasted weapons without elegy or slow = rape (Ironically enough, my highest Blade:Jin until 74 Deco Burning was then. Gotta love how the game works).

Because WHM sub offers poor DD abilities, poor tank abilities, and poor healing abilities.

What is there to being a Tank? Staying alive and hate keeping.

Staying Alive: Utsusemi. Check.

Hate Keeping: Damage gives the most hate, Provoke. Check.

What is there to being a DD? Dealing damage (Oh my).

Damage: Berserk, Double Attack, fast delay, strong WS...yeah, that's a check.

In EXP and several end-game sceniroes, DDing is the best way to tank and can't be beat. It gives you the most amount of hate aswell as kills the mobs faster. And this game doesn't take skills, a retard with one finger on both hands can blink tank well enough to not get hit.

One shouldn't limit themself from being only a DD tank...but why the hell would you dislike DD tanks?

easiest way for NIN tohold hate effectively is through DD. PLD uses his emnity gears, vokes, flashes, and cures. NIN uses his evasion/enmity, voke, ninjustsu and damage.

you have 2 500ML cups (if you dont know what a ML is, you live in america...and I feel sorry for you), one for damage, and one for evasion. You have a 3rd 500ML cup for your potential. No matter how you pour your potential into both cups, you cant fill them both up.

You can be excellent at evading, you can be excellent at DD, or you can be "OK" at being an evasive DD, but you cant be an excellent evasive DD.

this is totally true, and also why i liked to play a nin/rdm with another nin (also DD geared) or a pld as a total last resort.

Ehh...I dont entirely agree with this. If I go all evasion in an XP PT..have a BRD, a very good RDM (one who can actually stick enfeebs) as a NIN I can go chains without getting hit once, especially if I stack on all evasion gear. Your point is kinda moot when its NOT necessary to have evasion gear as a NIN in very good XP PTs, and by not having a DD setup, you are indeed inhibiting the XP your PT can get. Sure it's nice to not get hit for 7 mobs straight, but when your WHM is falling asleep and sitting on 90% MP at chain 5....its safe to say you can throw some DD gear on and help kill the mob a little quicker.

Same goes with WAR/NIN tanks on Fafnir and Wyrm fights, no need to overkill the defensive portion of tanking, when balancing out things would in the end make a smoother and quicker fight.
