I actually straight tanked AV for a few rounds, here is a summary of what happened. WAR/NIN btw.

3 shadows utsu Ni > AV physically removes all 3 > cast Ustsu Ni > 2 shadows down > start casting ichi > AV knocks off last shadow > ichi still casting > instant tornado II 2225 dmg.

I thought I got lucky he didnt cast -ga4, but he one-shots me with a very well timed Tornado II.

Was it stated that AV uses nukes only relative to the element of the day? If so, wouldn't it be less taxing to fight it on maybe Lightsday or Darksdays? Banishga and Light spells may do some significant damage but are there any damaging Dark spells? The worst he would do is Sleepga?

Thats his Wyverns, he always used Wind for us. Lightsday isn't too bad with Diaga and Banishga, Darksday sucks cuz its Sleepga spam. The wyverns can be easily kited however, so its not really a problem.

Weapons are 100% drop, unfortunately, torques aren't. Everyone who has a weapon does not necessarily have the corresponding torque. And due to the ablility of all jobs being to equip torque, people who can't even equip jailer weapons will often times lot the torque for another job. WAR=Temperence torque for example. I don't think there is 1 person in Kupo who has both corresponding weapon and torque and the job to equip both simultaneously.

Don't overestimate S-E. There's very little in this game that's not a matter of throwing enough smn and blm at it. The trick is surviving long enough for it to happen.

I think there's 2 when a THF steals... one saying you fail to steal and another saying there's nothing to steal.

If only that was the case. There's only one message for a failed steal, and it's impossible to tell whether or not a mob has an item. The only confirmation you'll ever get is that if you do steal an item, you know it had one.

It's impossible to distinguish between an unlucky failure and a no item to steal failure.

What gets me is the last part of the speech AV gives on popping: "Show me... by what principlesss thou art driven?"

If you're driven to attack it, you get violence in return? Absolutely no idea what the alternative would be, mind you...

We get violence regardless, he doesn't aggro you if you leave him alone after the initial wipe.

And there was a guy who wasn't in Kupo who kept cure spamming AV for no reason, nothing happened. I'll keep it in mind for the next time we plan to kill JoL, maybe curing his wvyerns? I noticed that he casted nukes heavily when our BLMs burned down his wyverns.

hmm, leave the wyverns alive then, kite em away, and try the corresponding weapon + torque theory.

We hit him plenty of times with the Jailer Weapons while Wyverns were alive with no noticeable difference. I really wish people would stop with the Jailer Weapon stuff, I highly highly highly doubt it has any effect. I know we really have no better ideas, but it seems people are really banking on this one highly improbable idea to be the answer.

I thought he doesn't spawn aggro'ing the alliance, since somebody took a video of the JP's defeating JoL and AV popping and it not aggro'ing...

as someone had pointed out earlier fully upgraded relic weapons, would work i belive. remeber a while back in the BG interview sage sundi had mentioned that the test team doesnt put anything into the game that they cant beat themselves; what we dont know is what gear they used to do it. imagine if you will how it would be to SC with two samurai's who had the fully upgraded GK and had meritted meditation down as far as they could get it would work better no?

Then the AV fight would be fucking pointless if the Development Team fought AV like that. All fights must be a little bit easier with full relic and +1 Abd. Gear. And you know what, thats what they probably did. Using gear that most people if not all people will never aquire, much less 18+ people. I think its still awaiting a hidden nerf like JoL.

They had an Apocolypse and an Excalibur (that was ditched for an earth staff lol).
