If the person has the points, what does it matter if they're being 2-boxed?

it matters if someone not being 2-boxed also has the points. i definitely won't argue that. my question was when do you get enough points to make up the difference, or if having an overabundance of points can ever make up the difference.

It's fun when you like your guild mates and they log on to find out we not only found X up and got to kill it, but they're wearing new_uber_peice_they've_lusted_after_and_thought_th ey'd_never_get_039 and start freaking out. lol!

it would be fun if everyone likes each other enough where it's a non-issue, but it's pretty apparent most LS are not like that.

But honestly, I see no reason to let someone get an item for their second job if people don't have it for their first.

If someone attends more than twice as many events so has the points, I don't see why they shouldn't be getting their 2nd peice before somone gets their 1st. Thats why there is a point system. The only thing I really see as a problem is if someone lots just to get the item even if they'll never use it or are planning on quitting.

3b) The character being two-boxed can wear the it for his second job and everyone who can wear it on their first jobs (who have the points) already have it.

One way or another, I lost the most prestigious Thief item in the same (I was that LS's main Thief) to a white mage, who was being 2boxed /following a warrior around for 3 hours.

I don't really consider them that prestigious for a number of reasons, maybe because I probably saw half a dozen of them drop. Honestly I think Perseus' Harpe is the most prestigious item a THF could have because of its ridiculously low drop rate, but prestige doesn't always equate to effectiveness anyway so it's a moot point to me.

As far as the 2nd job / loot debate goes, whatever way you look at the game, it's not set up to be very convenient for loot systems. Items end up being either easy enough to get that everyone can get it within a reasonable amount of time, or they're so rare that you may never even see some items, making them priceless compared to most everything else in the game. Loot pools are in almost all cases very shallow, making it a kill grind to get what you want as opposed to killing the mob and getting a few good items out of a deep pool. In the most extreme cases you need to pray to God, Allah, and Buddha all at the same time just to hope that 1% drop comes through. Maybe it's changing little by little with new endgame content but not by much.
