Aside from special or out-of-the-box party setups such as Monk parties, War parties, and BLM parties.

the Normal party setup usually is

Healer
Black Mage

which one would Corsair replace?

Refresher is also known as Support(if you also include SMN) and this is a support job. I'm sure this job will get refresh anyway.

The new jobs are sexy, but I'm more interested in the new areas. New exp camps, new beastmen/beastmen gods, maybe new hnms...?

And parts of the town getting "menaced by beastmen"... If done right, it could be awesome.

Meh. Actually I think SE considers Dragoons to technically be a support class. Maybe Pirate will be another Dragoon with a parrot pet that will shit magical crap that has wondrous effects on party members whenever the pirate does a weaponskill.

Maybe this is the competition for BRD and RDM.. but yeah if it is consumable ammo you use to buff people then it better be strong as hell. Well since BRD uses no MP and requires no gil to do buffs and most BRD buffs are AOE. Corsair will most likely be single target buffs and cost ammo to buff. That is all speculation though. Anyone else have any ideas of how Corsair will work?

There's precedent in FF on what kind of effect they could give this job, support abilities wouldn't all have to use the gun, and the gun could be used for debuffs, like the engineer in FFT.. Mustadio I think. Rangers already have a similar ability, Shadowbind.

The interview speaks of gambling abilities, nothing there has to mean "shoot your party to buff them". I could see some slot machine type interface to using abilities, although given lag I don't know if that would really work (in the sense of being based on proper timing instead of blind luck).

I hope that picture is just a bad scan though, cause it looks pretty damn pink to me. Pink pirate outfit with white lace frills... no thanks.

The way I see the whole gun-support part of the Pirate job is um... Mob debuffing. You know, kinda like those moves Wakka uses in FFX (also in FFX-2). Darkness Shot (blinds enemy) and um.. I forgot the others but theres more. The gambling (which seems to be PT buffs) bit... All I can say is: "Lagomorph!?" /tells a Rarab to use carrot toss.

Sounds weird yes, but I'm still rather excited in seeing how it all plays out.
