My laptop has been getting alot of lag spikes lately and I'm not sure why. I'll just start off by saying I really don't use my laptop for much so viruses/spywere are already pretty much out. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

I am having the same problems, I was thinking of buying 1gb RAM card for my laptop hoping it would help...would it?
I had some spurts of that same issue. If your on a wireless set up that could be part of the problem? I dint know, when I have been lagging its half internet connection and half my pc just being slow. I ended up taking out a second hard drive that is installed in it and it seems to have helped.
But since you mentioned spyware and such I thought I would point you here just in case you do have something erroneous on your computer.

Never hurts to check. /shrug
You need a pair of Duelist's Tights for your laptop. That should help your lag spikes.Originally Posted by Not Kuno

Network lag, or processing lag?
If it's processing lag, is the laptop getting too hot? Install any new drivers or software lately? Started running something in the background that you don't usually lately?
If it's network lag, is the cable old? Have you tried a different one? If you're running wireless, have you tried adjusting the antenna, turning off cordless phones, moving the laptop etc? Started running any new programs or changed your NIC drivers lately? Done spyware/virus scans (even if you think you're safe)?
I mean processing lag. I cant move the mouse or anything for anywhere between 2-10seconds and it's annoying.
Check your task manager under Processes and see if anything is taking an abormal amount of CPU time (click the CPU column name twice to sort it by highest usage, it's normal for System Idle Process to be using a lot, it's technically not using anything).
Stuff like that is usually some program that didn't terminate properly or is trying to do something very stupidly (like Steam for exmaple). Also a very common thing if your laptop is a printing hub. Be sure to watch it for a few minutes to be positive.
Well I don't think its anything like that because I dont print from my laptop. When I just tried to turn it on before, before anything loaded I had a really long freeze before stuff started loading up. I also try end tasking any high process stuff but theyre all usually important things.^^;
My PC does that. But not my laptop. I cant figure out wth it is either. It has been doing that for at least 7 months or so. In game or out, just very long pauses and nothing you can do about it. I haven't the slightest as to what the problem is. Honestly, I don't think Ill ever go to great lengths to try to fix it either. I will probably end up swapping out a piece of hardware down the line that fixes the issue. Until then, sucks to be me.
All the things that typically slow down my laptop, in order of likelihood.
A) Fragmented Page File. Very few defragmenters do a proper job of defragmenting it, if they bother doing so at all (MS defrag does not).
B) Really, really big desktop image file. Big fat resource hog.
C) Too many services running at once. It's annoying and time consuming to figure out which services you actually need running on your machine, but if you see a bunch of obvious cruft set to autorun at launch you can kill it all and set it to 'Manual' or 'Disabled.' This saves gobs and gobs of cpu time/memory.
Ohhh, Norton Speed Disk go~ Works wonders for me.Originally Posted by Correction

No sir. I think they are pretty cheap though. Though I can not be for sure as I got mine in a bundled package of software.
:Edit:
Just now remembered that I got Norton Anti Virus, Utilities, and Ghost all at the same time for like $20-30 off of Ebay.
