Frankly, I don't care which one people like more, WoW, or FFXI. Both have good and bad points. While SE's GMs have a relatively decent turnaround time as far as responding to GM calls, they often provide little to no useful information or help whatsoever. However, from my experience, albeit the poor turnaround time for WoW GMs (yeah, I'm sorry, but taking 2-3 hours to respond is just asssss) I've had excellent assistance from them to resolve any issue(s) that I explained in the GM call, and any others that may have occured during the waiting time.
You can pick and choose the good and bad points in both games, and compare/contrast to your liking. Whichever one you like in the end is the one you like (obviously).
Now, back to another case in point:
This is problem #1; when stuck in FF on killing something, the general solution was to throw more RNGs and BLMs at it until RNGs got the /nerf, now it's just BLM's galore. Seriously, using a full Alliance or w/e of BLMs as the primary DPS on a boss (Jailer of Love) is supposed to be a tactical method? That's a zergrush, not a strategy.Originally Posted by Warrick
Double.edged.sword. Thank you for giving me ammunition. You see, (this next statement being based on personal judgement and opinion), this tells me you think I don't know much about FF, or how some things work. I will admit I don't know the full in's and out's to the game, frankly FF endgame lost its appeal to me long before I hit 75.Originally Posted by Warrick
However, to say certain mobs in WoW take no skill is byfar incredibly wrong. Yes, of course, at some point when you kill something for an extended time, you will be able to do it with your eyes shut - this goes for anything regardless of what it is, game or whatnot.
Example, Azuregos. If you know nothing about Azuregos, let me fill you in. He's a bigass fucking dragon, Frost based as well which means a (dare I say) large number of end-game raid-based Mages have a harder time for this fight because typically of the high-end Frost-spec. With that said, moving on. He has a breath attack that is a cone field aoe. If you're not the maintank and are infront of him (like the dumbass you are for standing there), you will be frozen temporarily.
Next, he'll randomly buff himself so he can reflect any and all spells directed at him. Yeah that's a fun one. He has an AOE spell that is a brutal manaburn dps. If you're not familiar with Manaburn, if you have mana, this spell can not only 1) rape you (since it causes health damage if you have mana basically), and 2) screw your casters over with draining their mana down to nothing as well. If you don't have mana this isn't worth worrying about. Of course this seems all enough easy to avoid, but there are some catches.
Every so often he'll teleport everyone within a certain range to him (basically a Draw-In effect). This teleport wipes every bit of hate, unless you're a stupid caster who stays outside of the range, but still has hate on him. Usually when he does this, he likes to use that AOE Manaburn, not so simple to stay out of in this case since it does lower your movement speed. It also means that anyone who did not get teleported, but has a hate level of some kind on him, will 99.9% be his next target, thus making a beeline towards you, and killing you if you're pretty much not a tank.
Last but not least, the goal is not to die (obviously kill the dragon), but seriously, don't die. If you die, you're worthless to the entire raid fighting him for 15 minutes. You become debuffed, that is not removable in any way, shape, or form except for waiting it out. Try to go near Azuregos with the debuff up, and you will be Frozen in a block of ice until either the debuff wears off, or they move the dragon away from you and the stun timer goes down to zero. Don't plan on inching close, the stun aura is enormous.
Anyway, I'm not denying some mobs take a certain way to kill in FF, but you have quite a narrow mind to even think WoW's don't have some methods in how they have to be done, or at least a level of difficulty.

You're in no position to call some one a dumbass. Who said I hated ffxi? I dislike many things about it, I don't regret playing it at all. Jesus you're a moron.Originally Posted by Warrick

You DO realize these aren't specifically FFXI-only forums right?
You also sound like you came from Alla, how about you go back -.-;;
Dont forget to mention the alliance guild trying to gank your MT while your fighting.Originally Posted by Marcatil
Touche, but that only goes for PVP servers, and even still it does add a bit more entertainment (and frustration) to the overall fight.

lol, how the fuck did this thread turn into a WoW vs. FFXI thread?
Seriously...I play both WoW and FFXI, and they both have thier flaws and positive points. All you random people that came in here and started bitching about how FFXI sucks need to realize something:

if there isnt thought, it does seem like a silly and fruitless process... when ppl bitched about jol being to hard, they adjusted it... im sure if the pop rate on av just sucks and ppl keep bitching, they will adjust it to...
also: to the guy on the first page, when you kill a mob in wow, and it always drops 1 "uber super duper ultra rare item" - how rare is that item? the terminology doesnt quite connect (in my mind)
but to stay on topic.... theres prolly a catch, and ill bet its an easy one that affects avs pop rate (and man, thats gay if there isnt)
Why the hell did you bump this thread?
oops >_>
