That arguement is made all the time on the internet, and 95% of the time it's by the exact same people that bust out with a harsh ME>YOU mentality. But yeah i'm just generalizing.Originally Posted by Tom Chambers

And in ballista... 8) I remember this one 60 cap way back where i followed around mifaco raping him in two-three axe rounds whenever he was prepared for battle.
And that was when I realized that BLMs get fucking boned in Ballista and I'd be better off playing MNK.Originally Posted by Orfeo
Can't change equipment (no elemental staves LOL), magic damage nerfed, sleepga duration nerfed (45sec), everyone has poison on, Resist Bind makes it so you can't bind anyone with /NIN (ie the entire opposing team), and of course you're the second weakest target of the opposing team (weakest is SMN).
Don't forget, kids: Blink and Stoneskin take 15 seconds to cast - with a MP cost. Utsusemi takes 4 seconds and uses 0 MP. Not being able to cast while "preparing for battle" is a load of bullshit.
Oh yes, and don't forget that BLM can't do jack shit while silenced, while melees LOL at any sort of blindness. And of course you still pay full cost for all spells, and while melee range is increased in Ballista, spell range is still limited to a measly 20 units.
Compare this to MNK, where you get a fuckton of HP, Destroyers, and Asuran Fists. Or WAR where you get shadows and Rampage. Ever since the RNG nerf, it's been the MNKs who have been dominating Ballista.
I remember being blinded once while killing endonotme, and he flashed me, yet I still had 100% acc (or was it niro? probably niro). I just sat there thinking "so um...I should be using agressor right now, right?)[/url]Oh yes, and don't forget that BLM can't do jack shit while silenced, while melees LOL at any sort of blindness.
I play WAR in uncap ballista and i actually do pretty well against mnks. The only thing that gives the mnks the upper hand would be their high HP. So what i do is go all HP and defense gear then eat atk food. with 1600hp and vit+40 it takes 2-3 asurans to take me down.
One thing i hate most about uncap ballista is if there's more than 3 blms in one team... You just know it's gonna be like sprint/get tp match instead of the brawl it's supposed to be ; ;
How do you not just get counterstanced to death, that always happens to me. Maybe just unrucky. It is the one time I make frowny faces at Ridill.Originally Posted by stormos
You can be cheap and do the circle running thing, though I don't do that. Best bet is to just have some tp beforehand lol If you're close to 100 you can wait for the monk to give it to you and rampage them. As a Thief my SA+Hide+DE has done 1200+ to a galka monk because he counterstanced lolOriginally Posted by Luminaire

When i used to do ballista uncap as war with atk/str gear with 1200-1300hp, i'd get put to red hp after one asuran (800+ dmg) so i switched to hp/vit gear and i survive alot longer than i used to. plus i can still one shot taru blms with rampage lol
Siren's uncapped ballista scene is dominated by MNKs and BLMs.
Lately more and more BLMs have been coming to Ballista and I promise you it's NOT fun for anybody who isn't a BLM when both teams have 3-4 blms.
It's not hard to target and kill one invisible BLM trying to ninja around and -ga3 your group. 2 is possible. 3-4 is just not possible. Most melee don't stand a chance when 4 invisible blms pick targets while invisible and cast. Most of them are pretty smart about gear too and eat defense food like tacos, spaghetti or the lowly fishkabob. One fishkabob + reasonable buffs means most blms, even taru, can't be killed with any single WS.
Turn the tables though and have only 1 blm on a side and they're basically meat, no matter how quick they move or what their buffs are.
Almost every Ballista Uncapped on Hades has 3-4 BLMs always there. We have a war75 with ridill and kraken that prefers to come as BLM75. We have a MNK with Faith Bagkhnas and Brutal earring that prefers to come BLM. Yes 1 BLM on a side is not too hard to deal with. But when you have 3-4, and the others are busy wasting their time chasing PLD/RDMs for TP. you GET PWND!Originally Posted by Correction
BLMs have advanced from their mentality of Just nuke and run. No, they now know that anything /NIN needs time to get TP, and is 50% more likely to be one shoted without their shadows. BLMs sleepga in an order. And yes, sometimes 50% of the alliance has Poison Pots up. But there are still the other 50% that don't. Even if they did, Poison Pots don't last forever. And if you die, you need to find another before the next round of sleepga's.
To put it simply, which jobs are on the offensive in ballista, and which jobs are on the retreat 90% of the time. All it takes is the melee in the BLMs alliance to keep their counterparts busy, and it's over. that's not exageration, that's just the strat that is being utilized today. and It reduces the fun factor in ballista, knowing that you could be doing very well outsmarting the other melee, only to have a few BLMs hit a macro and decimate your efforts. I belive that skill and hard work should equal better results and rewards. Melee surviving in ballista and killing > BLMs invising, nuking and running away like headless chickens.
As a THF...
WAR = Free TP, Easy Kill, and omg if the noob uses zerk... tears of joy run down my face as i one shot them.
MNK = Don't fuck with them usually, but, when decked out in evasion gear, it's hilarious to see 100 to 200 dmg Asuran Fists from the super pimped out ones..
NIN = a Good nin that sticks jubaku on me when my ni goes down and i start loading ichi.... basically one that can count shadows real well.. i dont fuck with em..
MNK/SAM = king of ballista
NIN/??? = if good can take down any other job...
WAR/??? = Gate Breach.
MNK > NIN > WAR
BLM owns.. but if i m on thf and it s windsday its payback time... Garuda's + Mighty Knife for the mages and NIN and /NIN and Wind Ring for the Melee is fucking heaven.
I have no prob taking out Nins or Thfs on war. when i say "No Problem", what i really mean is it can go either way. It's a fair Match. Especially if the Nin is using a kraken, and the THF is in all EVA gear. Mnks however, i think i have approuched the wrong way my entire ffxi career. I have tried everything in sparring with them 1 vs 1 as war, and unless i use 2 hour, im dead. Other wars are saying to go full vit/def/HP+ when faced with a mnk. I don't see how that's going to help. They will hit faster than you without the haste build. you will hit them for what? 40-60 per hit?
Side Note:
I think Kraken on ninjas and mnks is useless.
I also dont have any problems fighting nins and thfs on war. The only job that gives me trouble (and doesnt run away) are mnks.
NERF MNK OMG THEYRE STRONG

This one JP mnk in my server with a maat cap always comes after me. He is pretty blinged (defending ring, osode, capped merit, etc) and i hit him 60-80 per hit and he hits me for 40-60(110highest crit) with asuran being in the 400-600 range. Of course he hits faster but usually i out tp him b/c of ridill. Whenever we face each other the situation's always different so I cant really say MNKs outright overpower WARs with ridill. I've won my fair share of battles against him. The reason for the hp/vit gear is, the more hp you have, the longer you can survive against a 1v1 fight. The difference between my hp/vit gear and my str/atk gear is like 200-400 dmg asuran apart. I think sacrificing 100-200 dmg on your rampage and like 10-20 dmg from melee atks is worth it.Originally Posted by Cursed
If you are a war that doesnt get targeted often, then I think going str/atk gear would be best. It's not something i'd wear if you end up in a 1v1 situation, especially against a mnk.
