wow 400-600 with that uber gear? is he tarutaru or sumthing? cuz usually no matter what eq (osode a.hauberk) i hit the 600-800 mark with asuran fists and 100~ per punch, and my gear is nowhere as good as what u say he has.

i don't mind mnks being #1 overall melee in ballista. They can't get away with being noobs and beating you. they still require skill and experience to be at their best. can't say the same for some other jobs *coughblm*

what exactly do you consider "skill' in this game? Is it figuring out what gear to wear to make you as effective as possible? Is it mashing the right macro? Is it developing a strategy that is the most effective to the situation at hand?Originally Posted by Cursed
Because all you bitch about is how blms can just cast a spell and run away...I'm sorry if I'm not going to stand around and let some mnk auto-attack me and hit a boost macro then asurian fist me to death...that would be stupid and show no skill. Seriously, just because you're too stupid to figure out how to kill a blm (even though 9/10 mnks can kill a blm in 3 seconds), doesn't mean blm doesn't require skill, because it requires a helluva lot more skill in ballista than a mnk does.
Blm is under several disadvantages in ballista. They cannot change gear, which affects them a lot more than melee because every spell requires a different setup. They need MP to do anything, and if they run out, they're dead meat unless they can hide. They have the second lowest HP, VIT and Defense in the game. Blms pretty much require melee support to survive, whereas a mnk can be a one man wrecking ball without much thought. The best Ballista player on Phoenix, Shinfuma, took one 2 blms and a pld and kill all 3 without getting in orange HP. He's really good, but according to you blm are overpowered...I fail to see that if 2 of them plus a tank can't kill a solitary mnk (even if he is ballista god Shinfuma).
So basically, stop bitching because you're a subpar mnk and keep losing to blms that you should be easily killing. No, mnk does not require more "skillz" than blm in ballista...I mean, how hard is it to engage and punch something that can't even get a spell off to survive.
Uh... BLM ballista requires no skill? What are you smoking and where can I get some. Black Mages have to constantly be on their guard from melees, even if you just get too close to the oppostie side's front line, you can be gone in seconds. Black Mages have to constantly be careful of where they are standing and make sure they're protected. Simply standing out in the open casting a spell is a good way to get yourself owned.Originally Posted by Cursed
Now lets take a look at MNKs in ballista. Lots of hp, decent VIT, 8 hit (I think 8 hit) weaponskill that can one shot taru blms/smns... wow. Monks have it so easy in ballista. I'm sure if I had a 75 galka mnk I could be pretty fucking good at it. This is what I would do:
1. Use body boost.
2. Meditate(/SAM)
3. quarry 5 petras
4. find other team.
5. pop a poison potion.
6. gather 100 tp off a melee, run back screaming to whm if I run low on hp.
7. find BLM or SMN, kill with asuran fists.
8. score petras.
That is how easy monks have it in ballista. They have overpowered hp, and an overpowered weaponskill. If you ever get them low, they just run back to their whms. Black Mages have to constantly be aware of their surroundings and they need to know who can kill them with a weaponskill or they will likely die. People who think it takes no skill make it so obvious that they have never played blm ballista.
MNK can also use Chakra to get back some HP also.. it can be a lifesaver. Also if you are going up against a team full of sleepers (BLM, RDM, BRD) you can wear an opo opo necklace. That way when you wake up you will have TP to own them with (if they don't just resleep you).
I die a little inside when fighting MNKs without the rules No Outside meds or No subjobs are not installed. Probably still die a little inside with that second rule.
This part takes me 90% of ballista.3. quarry 5 petras
Fuck ballista.

My last uncapped match I followed the top JP rdm on my server while he was hunting down to finish off someone. As soon as he went to cast and kill the guy I stole all 5 petra from him lol...the 3rd round of the mountains match I was the primary target for the other team, I think that might've been why![]()
DRK/NIN w/K club and Maneater + crimson cuisses/adaman hauberk > all <.<;
Counterstance owns kclub hard.
Dispel owns Counterstance hard
Silence owns Dispel hard
kclub owns MNK/WHMs who try to cast silence so they can counterstance without being dispelled hard
drk/nin doesn't get dispel.
Blink would eat the dispel anyway...

Intimidate, you can have this.
I know not many people give it much thought but PLD can hold its own quite well in a ballista setting if geared correctly. nin sub + SH/Hauby + company + joyeuse + crimson legs + suppanomimi + k.legs + ohat/k.hhead (depending on who you're fighting) and maybe toss in a body boost to cap it off, and you have a very formidable opponent. MNKs, more than most jobs have a difficult time with this combo as it can absorb hits very well (ni AND flash every 45sec w/o haste, 37 with, and ichi to top it off). Our evasion rating isn't TOTAL shit, and we have parrying that has a C cap too I think?
I've rarely had a difficult time taking down the most difficult MNKs in a 1v1 bout, but the battles are very long. Flash can completely negate asuran fists if timed correctly, and has done so consistently for me. Counting enemy shadows takes time and so most people just fire off their WS when they see their attacks getting through again, so after an attack round gets through shadows you can throw down flash - if the MNK is trigger happy he'll fire off asuran and it'll miss completely, also giving you a free attack round or 2 of them missing you. This strategy does not work as well when the MNK is /war because of double attack, but it isn't bad either if the MNK throws up zerk, because you can go to town with vorpal.
If your timers are fucked for a little while. run around with crimson for a bit while they try to catch you. You have MP too, get some distance and cure yourself back up and keep going. Other melees don't have this luxury.
Vorpal Blade IS a decent WS, it's not asuran or rampage overpowered but it can be pretty lethal with a 56dmg rating sword(company).
Joyeuse in offhand + company is a beautiful combo, with the A+ sword rating to go along with suppanomimi's dual weild enhancement and sword skill+. It disperses shadows on pesky war/nins and othermelee/nins very quickly. Makes for an easy fight, good examples are the sam/nins or drk/nins or whateverelse/nin. Kraken club is nice in the offhand for PLD contrary to popular belief, because we have an A- club rating, the highest of all jobs I think(?). Not 100% sure, but we can hit the broadside of a barn with it unlike most jobs.
When fighting NIN/WAR or THF/NIN, dont even bother unless you have some sushi to eat lol, THF/NIN are just too difficult to strip of shadows and damage reliably, but if you manage to get shadows down a well timed holy can kill them or send them on the run if their HP is low. This also works for anyone trying to run away with a tiny bit of HP left, and can be quite the pissoff. Also a nice thing about fighting THFs is the fact that their attacks are so harmless, they're not much of a threat. 0-15 dmg per hit depending on gear setup. Just don't get SA+WS'ed. NINs will take your shadows down quickly and once they start debuffing you, you're pretty much fucked.
Our one glaring weakness is the damn mages as always, RDM moreso than anything. RDM can strip shadows, throw gravity on, silence us and make us walking cat food in a few seconds. PLD with no shadows and gravity is a walking gate breach opportunity sadly, lol. BLM are nice and soft and succumb to vorpal easily, RDM too if you can catch them with their pants down. Throw down a lethe+1 and fire WS, and pray they die haha.
And lastly a little known fact for people who bitch about lullaby... you can quarry while lullaby is on. You can't when sleep is casted on you, it only works for lullaby for whatever reason. So next time you are ready to bitch out the brd just chill and dig yourself some petras or daedalus wings or something.
