I have the exact same one Helpoemer has.
The 6 GB one you can get for around £140 and the 20 GB is around £175 from PC world.
Kicks the shit outta the iPod and the battery lasts for over 18 hours at full volume.

If you don't mind the size...you could just get a mp3discman. I got a good 400-500 CDs, both original and uh, less original. Even the cheaper mpdiscmans(discmen?) tend to use folder sorting over ID3tag sort.
Downside:
-only 700mb of music per CDRW
-large as hell
-doesnt serve as a memorystick
Upside:
-cheap ($25-$50)
-plays cds!
-if you can be assed ot bring plenty of CDRWs in whatever bag you're using, you still got GBs of music (lol)
-No iTunes or w/e
Maybe it's just me, I just happen to have huge pocketses, and have some sort of bag on me when I travel far enough to need more than 700MB of MP3s. I'm sticking to this kind of mobile music for now.

It's called replay gain and it has been implimented for a long time on far superior playback and CD extraction programs 10 times more robustly than iTunes.Originally Posted by XxSlusherxx

I love the battery too because it can easily last over 9 hours (haven't needed any longer, go go flight from Cinncinati to Paris) and still be good to go again after an hour of charging. iTunes has never really given me problems either so I don't see what the huge deal is against it, but if it's not your thing it's not your thing.
Cause it makes people ignorant to better mp3 players? Only thing I respect it for is advertising.
PS: I've always hated Apple, and most people who do, didn't start with iPods.
are you retarded? or rich? or someone you know who probably bought your ipod for you is rich?Originally Posted by realraiko

Yeah, I can't think of any other way an unemployed 16-year-old is able to aquire such items like Ipods, 50 inch plasma tv's and other such 'bling'.Originally Posted by joft

Aaaannnnyyywwaaaayyyy, I decided to go for a Sony NW-A1000 after the purple design edged it over a a Zen Micro for me. So far I'm pretty pleased with it and the sound quality is fucking loud as hell. The connect software is pretty sluggish but it doesn't seem as bad as the horror stories I've heard about it.
Thanks all for the input.
ipod has its pricetag if you ever want to resell it, those other brands lose they're value much faster than iPod..
I can get about 170~180$ for my 1 year used iPod mini which is close to the price of a new one..
if you want to use itunes for your ipod you can download programs that allow you to rip songs off you're iPod like a normal MP3 player
and if you go though windows explorer and look at hidden files, you will be able to find the directory that has your songs in it

I can't even think of a witty reply to this but it made me laugh. I guess it's because I've been waiting for someone to say that to me since it arrived and, amazingly, you're the first lol.Originally Posted by NynJa

I work at Best Buy, in the wireless department. MP3 players and phones are my speciality. Based on my own personal experience, iPod is the way to go *IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS*. (Don't flame me.) The Creative players are "okay" if you don't mind an FM transmitter that doesn't work well, black-and-white screens that are harder on your eyes, and controls that get bad reviews. Creative has this little thing they say sometimes, "We know the shortest route between two points is a straight line - no more running around in circles to get what you want" making fun of iPod's controls. But I find Creative's controls anything but user-friendly. Their controls are over-sensitive, their units are bulky, their screens are poor quality, and my Creative reps do nothing but talk about how iPod ripped them off, when the funny part is they always come out with iPod-like MP3 players AFTER iPod comes out with them. Creative Zen Nano Plus anyone? At least the iPod Nano is original. The Creative Nano is just their old Muvo model which SUCKED ASS - all they did was take off the "Muvo" sticker and put on a "Nano Plus" sticker. And I don't see how it's a "Plus" when it doesn't have a color screen, and only goes up to 1GB when the iPod goes up to 4GB...
But I'm not all iPod. I do like the Sandisk players. Their new ones, the black ones, I can't remember what they're called right now, look very nice, and are good competition to the iPod.
I personally have an iPod, and I love it. iPod does have a lot of problems yes, but just because "3 of my friends" had problems with their iPods doesn't mean they are ALL bad. When the Nano first came out, people complained to the high heavens that it scratched too easily, and some asswipe apparently sued Apple over how easily it scratched. That problem was insanely easy to fix, with a $4.99 screen protector designed for the Playstation Portable, all they had to do was buy it and cut it to the size of their iPod screen and tada - problem fixed. That's what I did, I've had my screen protector on my iPod since September and it still looks brand new. Yes, the Nanos did have problems with the batteries, but they are FIRST GENERATION. There are first generation problems with everything that comes out, regardless of who makes it. You might say "well Apple has been making iPods for years, they should know how to do it right." Well, Motorola has been making phones longer than apple has been making iPods, but their GSM Razr phone still sucks. Because it's first generation. They've worked out 90% of the bugs with the new CDMA Razr, just like they worked out a lot of the bugs with the 4GB Nano that everyone was complaining about.
The new iPods scratch easily because they are a very soft polycarbonate in order to make them appear very glossy.
And there was more things I was going to say, but I'm very tired and can't think of anything else. OH - the iTunes software, I have not ever had any problems with that program. I don't download music from it tho, maybe that is what was being talked about. I download music from my own CDs and also from Limewire. Now I'm going to bed. When I wake up I'm sure there will be 29348723047 flames against me.
Haha, you work at Best Buy, you're even more of a noob than I thought. I like how you know nothing about what you sell too.Originally Posted by Coco

Any MP3 player under 20GB is trash.
My two cents.
How so? Just because 20GB isn't enough for you? I have a 2GB Nano and it suits my needs just fine.Originally Posted by Genosync
