Time to derail this thread completely:

It's like gas prices. They get you used to paying $3/gallon then reduce the price to $2.50/gallon and you think, "OMFG, I'm getting this cheap now." You forget that a year ago you were paying $1.50/gallon.

I remember when 1.15 was the normal price. I want those days back.

It wasn't even that long ago, but thats ok Exxon/Mobil made the highest profits (pure profit, not sales) in one year than any other company in US history.

    gg Mobil/Exxon gfg
    Those days aren't coming back.

Hate to say it kids, but the basic mechanics of the ffxi economy means things are only going to continue to inflate. GG on that great design, se.
Welcome to the society you live in today. If you have read the thread then you would know it is EXACTLY LIKE REAL LIFE. I don't see why people keep whining and crying so much about "well this used to be blah blah blah" especially on FFXI. Yes Oil used to be 10k a stack reliably, but beehive chips were 1/10 of the price too. Same with almost anything you can farm, everything went up, it's all relative anyway.

I'm not whining.. i could care less, i dont even play anymore. I just find it funny. ;P

However, not to throw in the wow vs. ffxi drama into the equation, but despite mirroring real life, the ridiculous economy in ffxi could have easily been avoided simply by creating less of a dependance on buyable materials and non rare/ex equipment. WoW has been out for quite some time now but doesn't see this sort of large scale obsession with gold because the most powerful items in the game aren't buyable in any way, shape or form. Obviously there are still farmers and still gold buyers but you aren't going to see Random gold buying noob xxx with the best loot in the game because he took his mom's credit card on a trip to ige. The best items are the equivalent of rare/ex and there are hundreds upon hundreds of instance bosses that drop great level appropriate loot for people to use. More focus on actually playing the game to become stronger rather than farming beehive chips and training gilsellers for 6 hours a day.

The love of money is the root of all evil. SE should have taken that into consideration before they made an economy entirely based off of the value of the gil. Unfortunately it's too late to redo the whole game...and all us players can do is make the best of the situation.

I think it has something to do with the fact that the "cost of living" has gone up, but the "minimum wage" hasn't gone up. Things are costing millions and millions of gil, but they still get only 6-20 gil off a monster. So from what you're saying yes it's like RL and people are just whiney, but at the same time it's like being forced to live in poverty. You could have 3 million gil (which when i started playing was practically unheard of) and not be able to buy gear you just need to get by in an exp party. I most likely will not come back to FFXI, simply because I need a vermillion cloak. Why come back and stare at my character every day and be reminded that I don't have 20million gil to throw away on something that wasn't worth 7million, much less 5?

    Verm/Royal dropped 3-5 mil in a couple days :D
Phantom tathlum is down to 800k (still too much)
Haubergeon dropped 5mil so far (10mil now)
    O kotes are still at 8mil :\

The only things that aren't dropping are the items gilsellers have a strong grip on (Enkelados Pallas Alkyoneus O kotes etc)

We'll see what happens by march. I feel sorry for anyone who bought a verm cloak at 32mil

The constant taking away, gimping of drop rates, and making some items rare-ex, when they should not have been rare-ex are some of the major reasons as well, on top of the whole IGE thing.

IGE's prices were cheap, then they started rising very fast... seems their database prices based on remaining stock accordingly. I mean I witnessed it rise one day, then a few hours later it rose again and this is Bahamut. If we're not sold out we probably will be soon.

The gilsellers will be back as IGE will start buying gil publically again if they need to and they probably will offer decent money for a short time that might even convince a few of us to drop a little gil their way. I think gilsellers need left for a bit so they downsized, then it became apparent how many people actually depend on them and here we are now. No gil for people to buy, "oh noes".

I've taken a serious interest in gil buying lately, looking at it from a market sense, how many people buy into it and how it progresses more and more to becoming an industry standard synonymous with the MMO experience. There are very few companies I think that will ever make a serious effort to eliminate RMT altogether. A large amount of players depend on it and eliminating it will eliminate those subscribers. It's a catch 22 of sorts, at the same time eliminating it could ATTRACT a lot of players but it all depends on how successful you with your game to be and it has to be a selling point before the game goes live.

Basically, if you believe your game will not be the next world of warcraft yet still a great game that people will want to play it... it might be a good idea. However, I would assume most companies create their games with the intent to hopefully be the next world of warcraft and as such need to have a market that captures the entire dynamic... RMT and non-RMT. No mmo ocmpany will freely admit it, but they bank off of RMT indirectly and while they will give an illusion to keep it at bay a lot of them don't want it gone.

It really sucks for us non RMT people but from a logical business sense It makes perfect sense and you can't blame a company for treating RMT this way. The future of games will be the ability to facilitate RMT while not affecting the non-RMT player.

Add that to the list of good out-of-context quotes.

Either "Minster of Galkan Affairs" or "Bastard-Man". (It's not one word, "Bastardman", like Superman, it's hyphenated like Spider-Man.)
