    We aren't thinking on the same lines here, and I'm not sure where you're getting that 100% from.

    smn sub + nobles/clerics/vc + refresh or ballad = 5mp/tick

    smn sub = 1
    gear = 1
    spell = 3

    You said the sum of these = 25% mp recovery. Which means, doing the math, that without ballad or refresh it would only be 10% mp recovery. That's where I got the number from. None of my numbers include both refresh and ballad, just one or the other.

    At any rate we are both preaching to the same choir... like I said smn is better in some situations and blm is better in others

    Refresh +3, nobles +1 = 4. +autorefreshh = 5. 5 = 25% more than 4. You have over the long run 25% more mana if you add autorefresh if you are getting 4 mp/3 second before adding auto-refresh. Conserve MP will (optimistically) save 10% mp, effectivly giving you 10% more MP.

    Close... you have 25% more mana -recovered- than 4, not 25% more mana overall. For /blm, it's the 4+the 10% from conserve mp. So it's close to 4.4mp/tick average recovered mana vs 5mp/tick. It's really almost negligible and thus whichever you prefer should be fine unless your strat specifically calls for aerial armor. That's all I'm trying to say =)

    I am still utterly amazed by how many white mages have absolutely no idea how to maximize their healing potential and use their job and equipment correctly and to its fullest. It amazed me when I still played the game, it continues to amaze me now. Changing gear in ffxi is so simple with macros, you have no excuse not to.

    Healing Staff is by no means bad. Its also by no means nessesary and largely an E-Peen item. However, 50 MP at the cost of zero hp is amazing - stop looking at the stats of a single item and start looking at gear sets as a whole. For a max MP gear set-up, 50 MP with no HP conversion is amazing.

    And to the morons who make such idiotic statements as "zomg maxmp max mnd whms are teh noob" - HI, PLZ LERN 2 USE GEAR SWITCH MACROS. Maximum MP set is everything at the start of extended fights. That extra MP is extra cures or regens at essentially zero cost to you. However it will do you nothing once you've used it up - thats the point where you switch into your MND/MP Regen/-Enmity set. You'll gain a little potency on cures, increased regen and HP, and lowered hate over the course of the fight. Its not a point of which is better, if you have any idea how to play your class whatsoever, you'll realize its most beneficial to use both.

    everyone understands what you're saying, thats so basic

    hp/mp convert gear for a whm is negligable, nothing will kill you if you macro swap hp/mp gear with a good enhanced stoneskin on, and having placed a regen on yourself (1 or 2, 3 is too high) while you cast your spells to compensate. Max mp is fine if you have the inventory space, and the gear to swap in after you've used that mp up, nobody denies that.

    Ok, trying to compare 8% MP saved per spell, and the % of refresh reurned from smn sub is like comparing apples to vibrators.

    If you get 8% back from /blm sub per spell, but you are not casting any spells your not saving any MP. At the same time 8% off of each spell when your blowing off curga 3's or cure 5's in heavy damage situations is alot more noticable. (Assuming 8% is an accurate total. I have yet to see any proof one way or the other.)

    On the other hand, at times where your resting MP back between or during fights, when your not using your MP, autorefresh will be active. No matter how good /blm is if you don't use your MP you won't get any effect from it.

    One last thing that needs to be noted on the compareson of the two. This was mentioned before, but not in depth. Blm SJ can bet utilized better when you already have a higher MP refresh. You need the mp to cast the magic that you will "save MP" with.

    Just to reitterate what was mentioned before:

    Autorefresh:
    1M = 20MP
    10m = 200MP

    Conserve MP: (assuming 8% is accurate)
    1M = used 250MP = 20MP saved
    10M = used 2500MP = 200MP saved

    On HNMs I can burn through 2000MP in 1/2 that time. So it isn't compareable. But in a ninja party, even while chaining. Using 250MP a minute when im not even getting refreshed by our bard most of the time is like asked for a wipe. So its simpled, nither is wrong or right. Its just like I said before. The choice of SJ is situational at best. Figure out what your estimated MP expences will be and choose accordingly.

    The healing staff:

    No matter what anyone says. You can use the healing staff if you want to. Its never a "bad" item to have. But! If you have a healing staff and your other gear isn't the best it could be for the slot, the key items being back, throwing, earrrings and rings. Then you should consider selling the staff, which benefits are minimal vs. the light staff and buying gear for those slots, whos "next best" gear pails in comparison. To be more specific: If you have a healing staff and don't currently own a errant cape. Sell the staff and invest in the cape, because the cape will benefit your whm dramatically more in almost any situation then having a cure 3's worth of MP will. It also has +30 MP on it, that tends to be more then what I have seen the "avarage" whm with. But reguardless the -enmity will be far more valuable in the long run.

    Honestly, it's not much different on any server, however some servers have a huge price tag on the Healing Staff too.

    Agreed for that price. You can easily mix and match errant to obtain a significant amount of lesser enmity.

    Jesus! 75mil? Well, how much is the healing staff on your server?

    Back to the matter at hand. Your right, its expensive. But there isn't anything else for your back thats better. You can get more -enmity from other pieces of gear and there are sub-par pices that are cheap for that solution. Back wise there really isn't any options that compare to the errant cape. Its not as crtical in exp, but with 10-30min long battles you can't really have enough -enmity. Outside of refresh equip, there really isn't anything more important.

    I have no macro to switch equip except for resting (equip Dark Staff, eat Cookie, heal), or just switch Staves.

    Fyi, not everyone has 30 free places in his inventory. Some people have severals jobs 75, and / or gears per lvl cap, and it takes hours to mule.

    I must add, it also takes alot of money. Not everyone has 20mil in gil to switch equip. Where do you find all those max MP gears? Zenith set (5mil each), RSE2 (for Elvaan & Galka 3mil-5mil), Astral Earring (10mil), Serket ring (25mil), Healing Staff (almost 15mil I think). So what the hell do you want to maco? I can do the same job as eveyone without any maco to switch equip.

    I could buy 3 HQ Staves for my RDM instead of buying a useless Healing Staff for MP+50.

    So in conclusion, people have severals jobs / lots of gears they need to keep in MH + inventory + mule, and people aren't rich enough to buy MP+50. Your "HI, PLZ LERN 2 USE GEAR SWITCH MACROS" fails.

    I laughed at MP whoring WHMs... Namely Tarus. Some Humes and Mithra's tried to match that too, but the problem everyone over looks is "What good is a dead WHM because of an AoE?" Your HP is so low that you just got killed by two Hurricane Wings. Good freaking game.

    I went for 1000HP and 1000MP as a Taru WHM. I was able to take many hits and at one point "tanked" Fafnir because of a Curaga. I lived too. While it was a mana burn trying to keep me alive, I wasn't one shotted. Swapping gear is truly easy.

    You don't need a crap load of stuff. Don't even bother wearing any zenith unless you're a Galka or Elvaan (This is not directly pointed to the person I quoted). Especially if you're a Taru. Any Taru wearing any Zenith (excluding hands) should be shot. Humes/Mithra can get away with maybe two pieces. I remember testing my HP and MP limits.. Hitting near 1500 MP...... 300HP. YES! I could stub my toe and die.

    Seriously.. As a WHM, you only need:
    Errant Gear (Enmity is underrated).
    Noble's Tunic macro'd in alond with Light Staff. The 50 MP bonus from that staff is nice, but when you consider it, it's really only an extra cure III for the ever so insane price for 20mil...
    Dark Staff (Macro'd in with Errant body).

    Anything under a short fight

    QFT, I hate tarus that insist on wearing like 3/5 Zenith and think they're hot shit. I'm happy with using my hands and blessed set, which is better than errant imho. It's also funny to see other WHMs in my LS who wear full Zenith and then Nobles Tunic, die everytime they get through like half their MP pool. They don't understand the concept of -enmity and not pulling hate. The only time I can see full zenith being useful is when you have just rested to full and are going to like cast buffs and maybe haste 2-3 people. That's the only time I can ever see having like 1200+ MP being justified at the cost of having only like 500-600 HP.

    Okan, I do wonder how you managed to get 1000 mp and 1000 HP, what did you use to up your HP?

    I don't see the point of an Elvaan or Galka with Zenith either. I mean, you pay Dalmatica a shitload of money (and I won't talk about the sacrifice you do for camping shit for 3h a day, and all the drama that can happens) for 50 MP and Refresh, and I honeslty see no job that really need it (WHM, BLM, SMN, RDM have all better body than this).

    Current price on my server:
    - Zenith Head 4mil
    - Body 12mil
    - Hands 3mil
    - Legs 14mil (wtf... lol)
    - Feet 3,5mil
    - Healing Staff 13mil

    As Elvaan WHM, I have Hands, Legs, Blessed Feet, Noble Tunic (so that made MP+20/min Haste+10% MND+10 Enmity-12), and I see no need for any Zenith gear (MND+6? HP > MP +250). Imo, someone with any Zenith gear should be shot for the price they probably paid (and I won't talk about how 'gimp' they are), but thats just me.

    PS: Jotaru you're an amazing stalker.

    Oh wow, nice, I am going to look into setting up a character like that for my taru. I think if I use some mnd rings instead of ether/astral and stuff I can hit the 1000ish hp marker without having to buy such expensive gear.

    Gigant Manle? or this Empowering Mantele i think was the name with the HP/MP +10/15 and 1%+, Cassie Earring, Pigeon+1, Bloodbead Ring? Theres a lot and if not against wyrms you can use BQ Ring.

    Just an example

    some merits also and there are many other ways as well.
    but this is not the most expensive stuff and decent with enmity- mp /hp
    Oh wow, nice, I am going to look into setting up a character like that for my taru. I think if I use some mnd rings instead of ether/astral and stuff I can hit the 1000ish hp marker without having to buy such expensive gear.
    All that stuff would get you well over 1k hp (assuming you're not wearing any zenith or other -hp items)

    As far as hp+ goes for me (taru whm) I've got
    Gigant Mantle
    Bomb Queen Ring
    Demon Ring+1 (lots of people always go "LOLZ WHY R U NOT USING SERKET?" then I slap them and move on with my life)
    3 hp merits

    That gets me a max hp of 994 (with blm sub). I wouldn't really use cassie at the cost of 50mp, but hoping to get the taru rse earring (+35hp no penalty to mp) sometime soon. Looking at what he listed up there though, with bloodbead ring/cassie earring/pigeon+1 or that rse earring you can break 1100 no sweat
