Wasn't it like a year ago when they said they banned 800 accounts and everyone was happy saying that it was a "good first step"? It seems to me like they are stepping backwards.

They banned less accounts this time and for all we know, the first 800 could have held even more gil then this time.

I'm not ready to pat SE on the back just yet until I see a monthly gilseller/farmer massacre. Until that happens, there's no way to know if SE is really trying to fix the economy or simply putting a new band-aid on it.

Ok, at least they did something, whether or not it may be significant. It's something at least, and we've known SE to do a whole lot of nothing.

However, the damage has been done. No matter what they do, we aren't going to see 4-6mil SH and 4mil Verms like we used to. I honestly don't think prices are going to fall by more than a few million because all these items have locked themselves on a new notch.

most of the reason prices go up isnt really because of RMT, it just helps it get there faster

the concept of tradeables being better than vrtra tiamat and jorm loot (oh wait......... their loot is tradeable) is the basis for things having gotten out of hand once and getting out of hand again, because it's not going to change

and i really doubt this is going to have any effect.. 100 accounts less than last time and look where that got it square likes to say things that make them look good and because 99% of what they say is bullshit, the 1% of the time when it seems like it's not it's very heart warming. i felt the same way, *OMG SEA IS COMING OUT THIS PATCH* (times 3, over 10 months) for example, and it was always worthless

also sucks they couldnt afford to lose longlyboys monthly fees, and he fucked an LS out of a close vrtra fight last night

All they did was ban the mules, but they left pretty much every gilseller acct unscathed.

SE put a temporary roadblock on the economies decline, but if they're not banning gilsellers so they can get that extra 12$/month for every account, they economy will continue to decline at a rapid rate.

I guess you didn't read the announcement very carefully lol. They never said "we banned all gil sellers". They said that of the people selling gil in FFXI, there was a small group of them using "illicit" (read: hacks) to generate large amounts of gil (read: duping). These people were banned, along with all the gil on their accounts. Any gilfinder who plays the game like the rest of us and just monoplizes whatever NM for whatever reason didn't get banned, because they aren't resorting to "illicit" measures.

the difference is that this time they hinted that the out of control prices were the direct result of an exploit in the system (i.e. duping). If they fixed that, then to be honest they didn't have to ban -anyone- for prices to get better. It just sped it up.

it's a meaningless difference, do you really think it's going to stop the sale/purchase of gil? and don't you see how there being no relationship between difficulty to obtain&item value vs rare/ex or tradeable is the true cause of haubergeon+1 being 80mil?

i've really always wondered why craftables blow the few things that are available rare/ex out of the water, except things for which LSes are still camping after 3 years, and arent 15% maxed

IGE is a company. It's a company that has a boss and employees. They aren't just going to be like "OH well looks like SE is putting the pressure on lets shut down and all become unemployed."

As long as MMO's are around, IGE (and other gil selling companies) will be around. They'll be around as long as they humanly can. It's a business, it's a pretty damn low business, but a business nonetheless.

about 80% of Gilsellers on Valefor are gone and the last 20% are kind of out of it. The reason why Im saying they are "Out of it" is because 4-5 people of their normal party were banned but their account was saved. So whats 1 Character alone going to do to amas as much gil as before?
Im really glad SE did something to relieve the pain of the markets but as we already have amased so much gil on our economies in total I doubt we will see a very drastic change in the economy. SH will probly fall to 7-8M, haub will drop down to 5-6~ and Vermy to about 7-9~. At least thats my prediction anyone wanna take bets?

I think most people are underestimating how great an effect this is having on the economy.

Nobody has ANY money to spend. Gilbuyers have lost their source, and probably 90% of the people buying high-end luxury items now are gilbuyers. Supply is way outstripping demand; look at the number of bazaar's in Rolanberry fields! Prices are going to go down by a LOT before they level off, provided IGE remains out of stock.

lol everyone is missing the ponit here. While gilfinders in general are a catalyst to making the economy worse, what they fixed in this update is much worse than gilfinders. It was a duping hack being used by gilfinders. I don't understand why this is so hard for everybody to grasp. It doesn't matter that people will still sell gil after this update. That's irrelevant. What's relevant is that over the past few months prices have shot up expontentially faster than they ever have in the past, because of a duping hack that was fixed. end of discussion, it's obvious the economy is going to get better than it was before because before there was a duping hack, now there isn't.
