You don't need to. Without gilfarmers, the bank mule has nothing.

And how do you tell the difference between gilfarmers and a legit LS?

The same way anyone on Pandemonium can tell the difference between Welove and just about every other LS. There's even sucky upstart ones from time to time that think it's cool to MPK and kill steal, and people can still tell the difference.
    Take your pick:

Banning gilsellers -> bank still has all the money, flow of RMT isn't immediatly stopped and can probably last until new gilsellers level
Banning IGE mules -> no money left to RMT, gilsellers have to meet a huge demand from scratch

It'll all continue again eventually, but one of those choices get a shitton of ill-gained gil from the system.
Ban the RMTers, No one to buy gill, no one to pay the gill famers problem solved.
Or my favorite option, all of the above. Ban gilfarmers and gilsellers no dupply, ban gilbuyers no demand.

    Everyone is happy.

I just need to clarify something from a few pages back.

You can't sell Beastcoins to a NPC. Period. They item is greyed out, you cannot get gil from Beastcoins. The only thing you can do is toss them, or sell them on the AH (or craft them into Ingots).

The notice says that these people were creating large amounts of gil through illicit methods. Stealing beastcoins can't create gil, ever, so obviously the gil was comming from something else. Unless you think that they were stealing beastcoins, crafting ingots, and selling the ingots to the NPC to generate gil? Seems kinda far-fetched to me.

I think the point would be to keep the people who play to actually play the game. Ban the gilsellers, and gilbuyers can't buy no matter how much demand there is.

Though to answer Not Kuno, maybe ban both? Your LS bank don't regularly receive gil from IGE gilfarmers, I would hope.

BUT THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT FUCK UP THIS GAME. The gill farmers only do the things that everyone else does. But they sell their gill. If they were there others would be. The problem isnt people who farm gill, cause we all farm gill, why cant you people understand that. We are all gill farmers. So just banning people who farm gill is bullshit.

You people want gill farmers banned are too lazy to deal with someone else trying to get claim. Legit players would get banned at some point if you banned everyone who camps shit for money.

If you dont want RMTers banned, than maybe your apart of the problem, cause RMTers are the ones who support IGE who pays the actually gill farmers. So by banning the people route of the problem you solve the whole issue and not address the cause of effect of the problem.

I hadn't though of the fact you can't sell beastcoins, but I guess it depends how much ingots NPC for. I mean if they NPC for even 3-4k a piece, it sure as hell isn't that far fetched.

Anyway, maybe they were just AHing all of them, but with such a huge supply of them on the AH you'd think prices would have fallen because there wasn't anyone to buy that many coins.

There's how many ppl that play FFXI? A million? I'd allow a 1-2 dollar increase to get some full time staff to take care of gil sellers. That's 1-2 Millionish (taken in concideration the various currency around the world) to pay for a team to take care of gil sellers:

    @ 40,000 salary = 25-50 ppl

    @ 50,000 salary = 20-40 ppl

Not too shabby of a salary for working on finding very easy shit. I could do a server in 2 weeks tops. Of course there's taxes but Se could STILL do this AND make more of a profit than what they already are making with a gil seller strike team

Yeah maybe you can cause you play FFXI so much, would you want to pay say 19.00 per month to offset the coastof having FULL TIME SE people on every server looking for people to ban?

How about an LS that has a Bank mule, and part of their DKP system, they can get 2 million for a certian amount of points. How about when they get wrapped up in a possible IGE bank mule, cause players are having money sent to them in 2 million amounts. Would that be fine, to have 30-50 players loose their LS bank?
If hiring 30-something people to actually play FFXI in order to be able to tell what's really going on would single-handedly increase subscription fees by 60%, SE has other issues.
30 people, you think ot would only take 30 people? Do these people sleep, have to eat have days off. If you want a SE employee with the power to KNOW everything about your server, and know who is and who isnt. Than it will take more than one person per server to play on the server everyday 24/7. Now you have to hire both JP and NAs, and people who speak EU Languages. So were talking a shit load of people, plus the HR expenses, the fact they will need a project manager, and bam, a whole new department, to just make sure people from SE can play enough to see who is and isnt a gill farmer?

Now SE is a business that needs to make money, if you anything about Labor, Labor laws, and the effect of Labor on EPBITA, you would know hiring more people to police the servers would increase our monthly prices.

SE needs to follow up and get rid of some of the gilsellers to have an impact. All SE did was put a little pressure on IGE, and now their employees are going to have to work twice as hard to get that money back.

A few serkets, a few CC's (cassie, not credit card), a few Simurgh's, whore the fuck out of sky when those NM windows arent open...throw 2 ppl at Friar Rush, a few ppl farming some of those lesser cloths (Taffeta, Chevriot(sp?), etc)...

It was a harsh blow, but it's easily recoverable, since IGE still has the means to make that gil back right away. Now SE needs to do some grade-1 detective work:
"Oh, theres 800 accounts on all servers, who constantly traded their gil to these mules we banned, all of which are on the same IP." I wonder if there is any correlation to these 800 accounts and the accounts we banned. This doesnt even involve SE spending their precious yen on IGE, its a few minutes of looking at their server side database that tracks the IP of users when they log in (they do have this, dont they?).
Wow you are so smart, hey try sending a resume to SE, they might actually hire you to do this.

Do gil sellers sleep? You mean to tell me that gil sellers won't camp serket amemt rush etc at a time of day? Jesus christ I want to move to your server!

It's not hard to catch gil sellers and you don't need to be at camps to find out who is and who isn't a gil seller. You just have to follow the money. Like I already said that ppl obviously missed the gil that's traded from one person to another should all be recorded. Hell a smart person would go to sites like IGE and buy the lowest amount of gil and and find out who's been sending that account gil and then ban all the accounts associated with that account. It's like SE has never watched an undercover cop movie.

I guarantee you just one GM playing on his own time, not 24/7, per server will know all the obvious gilsellers, see the blatant MPK attempts, etc. They won't know everything, but they'll know 100x what they know now. If you want, get a NA and JP GM so they see what's going on during JP hours. But that's it. 60ish part time people at most.

The goal isn't to document and monitor every server 24/7. The goal is to get a fucking clue as to what even goes on in the server.

I don't understand what's the thinking behind players that think just because SE did this, that makes all the other problems the game has disappear.

One or two actions does not make up for years of inaction.

Would you pat Superman on the back for beating up someone who littered, but let the orphange across the street burn down?

Estimates were 600k around a year ago, but I'm fairly sure FFXI has lost a LOT of subscribers since.
They also estimated 600k secondary characters per account, so SE is making 7.2M/year by not adding more inventory space.

Many wouldn't. They'd lose a lot of people if they upped subscription fees or they would have already. Besides, this is something that they should have been doing since day one and it doesn't take staff, it takes a couple people they already have to actually do their job and a few lines of code which I'm sure they already have too.

I would not be surprised, I mean from screenshots, some GMs tend to have a great sense of humor and they know alot of the internet fads floating around. I'm also quite sure that every LS has their share of quieter players that keep to themselves alot of the times too. Let's start going around and making accusations and see who cracks! then exploit them on the forums lol

On the other hand, I don't understand the thinking behind players that think just because SE did this, that means that should whine, cry, and emo even louder about gil sellers than usual.

There are many problems with the game; at least they bothered to address some of the issues behind the recent economic instability.

Sure it would be nice if Superman flew into the Lex Corp building and took Lex Luthor to the police, but at least he stopped Brainiac before he could steal the nuclear waste from the power plant.
