3000 people online, 20 are in ballista. What does sub 1% participation tell you about it's popularity?

I've done many ballistas where we have 20+ people on each side. And that 3000 thing is bs cause a shit-ton of them are afk/mules anyway.

Balista is extremely popular on Rag, sevral linkshells devoted entirely to setting up Gelshba matches.

Ballista has 3 problems that keep it from being popular:
I don't play ballista for an entirely different reason.

Stun effect when swapping equipment. Either allow that as a removal feature, or lock all equipment in place or get rid of the stun effect altogether -- what's so damn bad about it? Every time I go to Ballista, I either have to change every single one of my macros (and then de-fuckify them after Ballista) or go on a level cap where I don't have swaps (i.e. 30 or 40). Not acceptable.

I just did a match with 42 people in it. 21 v 21 is a sick amount of lag. I knew one of my teammates was dying but he didn't load on my screen so I couldn't heal him lol

Can't wait for new ballista. Last two matches I was 2nd of 24 and 3rd of 42 so yeah, can't wait for a new game to play :D

    1) FFXI has the worst interface of any MMORPG ever made and it's PAINFUL to use it even when fighting one mob, but fighting PCs where your F8 button doesn't even work, dear lord, it's like beating yourself with a blunt instrument.
    QFT.

This is the single most annoying thing to me in Ballista, and I think the main reason they can't expand much... In a free for all match I think most people would be GRAVELY upset, except for the rare BLM who can invis and AoE fifteen people to death all at once.. Its so hard to change targets, especially with the new update to prevent the disengage-attack haste trick... As a SAM for example; 450 delay GKT, you attack someone, they flee, out of range, you disengage... You now get to wait eight seconds before you can even think of engaging someone else; very, very painful. In WoW, although I don't look at it as a 'better' game, the PvP is definitely a lot more advanced, as its easier to move around and change targets on the fly as needed.

PvP wasn't something SE considered when they started FFXI, hence why it sucks so badly. It is a miracle they even get it to work worth a damn. To the poster who changes equip and gets stunned... I bazaar all my staves and instruments for max gil in ballista (well except the ones I use in ballista). That way I do not change equip with all my macros.

Is this (Diorama Purognonogo) and Dynamis - Tavanzia the final zones in the dat files that hadn't been implemented? Anyway it looks fun, Purogonuna Island seems like a more ideal location for balista/brenner than Ghesbla.

    This is not Diorama.
Look at the screenshot; now look at the screenshot of a Diorama where the color chart is all distorted.

I'm so sorry that you refuse to use a controller (mind you, the game was designed on PS2 for use with a controller) and think that you can use a keyboard only and get by just fine.

I have never, ever had a problem with targetting. Just a simple few presses of Left+Right on my control pad gets me to where I want to go. The only place I ever use F8 is in Dynamis, or if I'm camping something.

wah, wah, I can't target the mob, /slitwrists, /emo, gtfo gg go play wow

hahahaha you use keyboard only? That in itself is a failure. You know you can use both.. which is the optimal way to play the game.... that and keyboard macros have a delay coming up with the alt and ctrl bindings.. a delay that isn't present when using a controller.

I'm not sure or anything, but it certainly sounds like it's a Diorama area. I recall it being in the dats and all too.

    Agreed.

Playing FFXI without a controller is like trying to shoot pool with a fucking rope.

Where the hell do they get these names from anyway, I mean, at least Ballista sounds kinda cool. (Giant crossbow's that hurl giant pointy sticks, hell fucking yeah, although that has nothing to do with what Ballista is in FFXI doh.)

It sounds kinda cool I guess, I'll just have to wait and see, I'm more excited about thinking about kicking someone's ass on a beach than "Brennor" or whatever the fuck its called.

They should make a ballista where they stick some item in the middle of a zone and everyone has to go and try to get it first and kill one another along the way

which is a smart thing to do with gear that isn't EX. unfortunately alot of gear is EX, so his point still stands.
