ive never cared to be honest, someone could die in a car accident no one would know and sendoh would still PM them for gear back always seemed fucked up to me

i have never PM'd anyone for LS stuff back. i've asked Windd for stuff back because the stuff i loaned him belonged to a mutual friend (Aenarion), it wasn't LS stuff.

this is what i wrote in the member forum a few days after people left for WoW, judge for yourself how "fucked up" it seems because Scunsion's definition is very different from mine.

To WoW BG Members,

You will always be welcomed to log back into the game and attend any events that you desire.

Because BG on FFXI is still an endgame LS, in order for the LS to function properly members are expected to attend close to 75% of all scheduled events.

If you feel that you can balance both games and maintain that level of attendance in FFXI you will not be treated any differently than other members. If you are not able to achieve that kind of attendance you will be considered an inactive member until your activity changes.

If you know you will not be active in FFXI, we will be grateful if you can loan some of the LS awarded items to your friends that are still currently active in the game or temporarily return them to the current officers.

We are not asking these items to be confiscated permanently. If at any time you wish to return to regular participation levels in FFXI, these items will definitely be returned to you.

i guess "always be welcomed" was not a good choice of words, since some of them obviously aren't anymore.

probably the biggest problem with our old ls was that people would put lots of petty stuff like this in front of making an effort to be friends anyway.

people definitely did the stuff that was on your list but whether they did or not some people are just never going to be friends.

you go to school and have 30 classmates, they are never all friends with each other. you work in a small company of like 20 people, they are never all going to be friends.

the ideal is good that an LS of 40+ people could all be friends but the reality is that it can't happen.

on top of that, it's an HNM LS where people are recruited on what jobs they have and how they will be useful for LS events. actual friends who want to join are often turned down because they don't have the right jobs or they don't have enough playtime, etc.

that's the makings of a work enviornment, people can be friends if they like but it's not a situation that promotes and breeds friendship.

as long as people remained cordial with each other, stuff gets done, that's just like how the corporate world is.

and when some people quit from a job and go to a new one, they have nothing but good things to say about their old job (FFXI) or their old co-workers (LS members). and some other people will have nothing but bad things to say.

this in itself is not a problem if you don't expect everyone to be good friends to begin with and the people in charge are capable of distinguishing between the 2.

Funny you compare the linkshell to a corporation. The players in your linkshell are not just workers, but share holders. The old BG members just decided that they no longer wanted to be part of "it" anymore. They took their share of your little corporation and did what they wanted with it. How is it their fault that their investment actually grew.

RTCW: Enemy Territory / Q3F = Best FPS ever.

Yeah, Enemy Territory is awesome. There's some aboslute sick people on it though. I was invited to a small scrimmage with one of the best clans (I don't remember their name, this was like 2 years ago and I have a really horrible memory), and they were just fucking amazing. It wasn't even their individual skill, but their skill as a team. Basically get sniped all the way across the map via MP-40/Tompson because 3 guys would all be aiming at the same person. They had been playing togeather since RTCW came out, then switched to ET when it was released, so they're teamwork was just amazing. There's a huge fucking difference between playing on a public server, and playing in a top tier clan match.

Don't really remember what server we played on but I was in the Bus Drivers clan (BD). Seems there still around although the only names I recognize are Pony and Hellboy.

The game I really miss though is Quake 3 Insta-Ufreeze, had so much fun with that mod. I haven't played in soooooooo long and all of the servers I knew of died awhile ago.

i highly disagree that a guild should be like a work group or classmates. in most cases either one of those is way more individual dependent than team dependent

to me it resembles more like the army or a sports team. it's utterly ridiculous to think that players would get pissed at each other and bitch at someone during a game because that person got a homerun or a triple double or a touchdown or a hat trick instead of then. it's even more dumb for genuine anger to erupt between two soldiers when the army pays for one's upgrades but not the other

those arent really accurate comparisons too but the point is there needs to be a much higher level of teamwork and self sacrifice (of epeen, money, solo time etc) than i've had to deal with in school or my few jobs for a group in an mmo to be amazing. i think we did that at small streaks and a few points in time but less than not. malign said "any game can be made bearable with a good group" and the times leading up to me quitting when people made a mockery out of that truth are what i mean when i say people put that stuff over being friends

if so-and-so got a hat trick because they were hogging the puck and not emphasizing TEAM ethics, I'd be pissed. Nothing like losing 8-3 because someone wanted that hat trick.
