You claim Fafnir because you have a chance to get abjurations. Ridill. Some of the best items in the game, PLUS money drops. Same with Kirin and the Zilart gods. Even things like BC instances - we drop 40 seals on the PCC BC because it's worth rolling the dice for a 5% Charm drop rate.

This is different. You go through 7 fights, more than likely a few deaths/wipes, and all of that crap. And the rewards?

    - Everyone gets a pole that not everyone can use and is pretty shitty for the ones that can

    - CHANCES at a WHM toy, a polearm/scythe/sword that are all strictly worse than craftable stuff, and a dagger and bow that MIGHT be good if the latents are easy to activate. But knowing SE it's either day/weather or having the avatar out, so the latent may as well not be there. OH AND CLUSTERS TOO.

Square has stopped balancing risk with reward over the last year and this is just another step in the direction of fights being hard for the sake of being hard, and not because greater difficulty means greater rewards.

Technically, its the best polearm for for sam and war, the best scythe for blm, the most str on a ranged slot from the bow, dunno what the sword is and the dagger depends on the latent.

you [try] and claim fafnir/nidhogg, but these fights are in their own semi-instance (no problems with crowding afaik)

    wiping.. lol

whm toys are purg mace, morgenstern, kraken, and prudence rod, ramuh's mace isnt a good item, skeleton NMs on boat rock this club. classify it with the rest as crap, which really arent, as xav explained

and please, enjoy the fights for what they are, pretend that they're just fun fights that are winnable, where rewards are extra. if ppl didnt focus on items so much, this wouldnt be such a problem :/

I remember a time when people used to play games for a challenge, not to increase the size of their penis. The internet has ruined videogames.

That Spear grats SAM's the ability to rock any SC with high dmg ws (SA Impulsive isnt exactly a joke WS).

    Fire - Gekko > Kasha
    Ice - Gekko > Yuki
    Wind - Yuki > Gekko
Earth - Impulse > Gekko (Previous was Gimpu > Kasha for gravitation)
    Lightning - Yuki > Gekko
Water - Impulse > Gekko (Previous was Enpi > Gekko for reverb)

It's a cosmetic change, and a slight hassle if it involves the sam changing weapon midfight...but what would you prefer ?? 300 dmg enpi/gimpu or 1k impulsive ??

i think the real question is why a SAM is using enpi/jinpu in the first place.

    for skillchains ??
You know, BLM's cast the congruent spell for that skillchain and they get a 25% damage bonus...

you're asking to instance a fight, then make drops 100%, but you can only choose one thing

ffxi is different from wow, things are special because they are rare

suck it up and fight again, if you dont suck, it should be fun killing it again :/
I was never one to say that having rare items was a bad thing, but those should be reserved for things that are rock your socks off good. If the items aren't super overpowering there's really no reason for the droprate to be that bad. Compare this to limbus where you get 2-3 random armors. A 100% chance of at least one random weapon would seem a lot more reasonable to me.

You're also comparing 7 fights vs 1 unless you only have to do the 6 avatars the first time.

As soon as the update came out most of the melees in my LS were drooling over a chance at the bow. For a job like SAM (where the previous best was Arco-de-whatsis or the Elvaan RSE Satchet), it's the best item there is for the ranged slot. The fact that you aren't guaranteed to get it since it's just a drop in a BC is rather lame, but at least it appears that alot of the other weapons have some kind of merit.

As much as I agree with you (100% on Jumper 2 was enough satisfaction in and of itself) why limit a game to JUST being challenging? Why not make it challenging and rewarding also. We're not saying that we don't enjoy the challenges of these fights...everyone's stated they have, but why not make it have a comparable reward for how difficult and time consuming it is?

So instead of whining how about some strategy on how to beat these avatars with a different setups etc.

the polearm is really good for sam the more I think about it. a sam/thf could still get respectable numbers out with impulse drive, impulse > gekko is darkness, the polearm is a lot higher base dmg than any gtk, and sure the skill is a lot lower, but the beauty of sam is that you can completely ignore accuracy, take your atk food and double minuet to counter the 40 lower atk from skill and meditate replaces accuracy.

I never really bothered to ever think about it before because the best polearm for sam was like tonbo-giri w/ 72 base dmg, but this is a pretty powerful weapon.

Even though darkness isn't as desireable as light, I'm sure mages could learn to love the other elements.

lol glad I wasn't the only sam that was actually interested in the pole arm...by far the best for sam. Was actually thinking about trying for the KS30 latent one...but since this is out, to hell with that.

On the final few carbys, could nins solo w/mage support and just save up some TP for last few%? Any ideas how much HP these things have?

Sounds like Xavier is giving up his right to lot on Ifrit's Bow for Leviathan's Couse.

Wow, support of a polearm ws? I was expecting more of a "plrm sux" response.

but yeah, for anything involving darkness skillchains, (aspid, trying ouryu without manaburning and skillchains) i always would go sam/thf with a polearm while i have a partner sam to do gekko. it rocks.

Silly Arvin, nobody dislikes polearm, they just dislike dragoons.
