    .DAT troubles

    Hey guys,
Everytime i log in to FFXI i get a error code from windows that makes me close the game, It says the mod is ffximain.dll. It comes up about 30-1min into the game, and when it doesnt come up, i'm dropping to R0 repeatedly.

So, i checked my files and found out i have 8 corrupted files. I got one of my buddies to send me the 8 corrupted files and i tried to replace them in the ROM\38 folder (That's where the corrupted files were). First it says i cant place the file in the folder cause it has the same name as the original, then i cant erase it to replace it. Someone told me to look at these forums to see if i can find some help. He told me i had to do something with my registry . So if anyone can help me out, i'd greatly appreciate it.

    1) Make sure you game isnt running, and try again
    2) If still haveing probs, restart you computer.
    3) Drop the 8 files into the folder again, if it asks to replace, say yes.
    4) If it says you cant put the files there. Delete the files you want to replace, then place the new files in there.

PS. Youre lucky im nice, ever one else is gonna tell you to fuck off.

I've already tried all that, if that worked; i wouldnt be posting here ;-;.

If i get an asshole post here, i cant avoid it, it's my fault for being ignorant over this situation.

    I'm running Windows XP

When i try to delete the file, it says "Cannot delete 76: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)".

I cant drop the files into the folder because it says that the file already exists.

AKA virus. congratulations! I had that stuff awhile ago. it corrupted random files on my drive, which made them impossible to remove, meaning: I had to format. have fun!

I believe your FS might be corrupt.

Start->Run, type cmd, then type chkdsk /f. Schedule a repair by answering yes to the prompt, and then restart your computer.

i scheduled a check, restarted the PC, and nothing happened. Am i supposed to do something after i restart the PC?

Normally you'll get a textmode Windows screen after doing that, offering you the chance to skip a filesystem consistency check -- which you shouldn't do. After that, the FS check should start... I'm not sure why it didn't.

If you want to just check the FS without fixing errors, you can still do it with the partition mounted from inside windows. Just open up cmd, type chkdsk.

That's the way it should work, anyway... maybe restart again or try to flag it to be checked on the next restart again?

If all else fails, reinstall FFXI. If you do have a virus, you probably will need to reformat your hdd. Otherwise the problem will persist.
