the earrings are belived to be from Apocalypse Nigh, the avatar lv72 weapons are from Waking the Beast.

have a pact with the 6 celestial avatars (Titan, Garuda, Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh, Leviathan).

that means you need the SMN job unlocked and have the ability to summon those 6, Diabolos and Fenrir are not required.

The prevailing thought is that you need to complete CoP, RotZ (including the cutscenes in Norg and Lower Jeuno), and Bahamut #1 for this quest.

I can confirm completing ZM17 and getting both the Norg and Tenshodo cutscenes are required.

Last night I went with a group, killed Eald'narche, got the Norg CS. Tried to get the quest (I was thinking the tenshodo CS was an earlier one I had previously got), no dice. Got the Tenshodo CS, immediately went back to Ru'lude and was able to get the quest.

The earrings are not related to the avatars. I did the avatars and carby gave me the pole.
