The only real need for DRK for us would be Souleater Kraken, I can only think of 1-2 real situations where that ISN'T a bad idea. While giving it to a DRK is the best answer job wise you forget that a DRK isn't exactly useful in HNM situations where melees don't sit on the bench...
If you want to compare it to a HNM situation, +2 INT is feasible at best considering the extra damage isn't comparable to something to go "wow" about. The torque shouldn't even be compared to a HNM situation for a drk cause i don't remember the last time i was useful on something other than sky and sea NM's with the exception of KA, joy!

The torque should always go to the person who deserves it most. That is given in any situation, but the ability to have 292 Great Sword Skill, along with the Club skill for Kraken users, how can you possibly go wrong. Scythe fails in most situations anyways comapared to a GS.

DRK>>BLM>>WHM but the obvious is who deserves it.

I think more melee need to level BLM; I rarely ever use my Elemental Torque and rarely get resists, even on HNMs. Nothing in this game is that fucking hard to nuke, which is sorta a disappointment. It would be cool if there were more mobs I had to stack af2 hat, merciful, druid's slops, af1 hands, torque, earring, etc. on to be able to nuke reliably, but there aren't. My philomath stole is on 99% of the time I have more than 50% mp, which makes this yeah the best option for BLM. I'm not going to debate whether or not it's "more better" for DRK or BLM, but there is no way people should be saying that it's not good for BLMs and elemental torque should never leave our necks.

I just find it really, really funny as soon as someone mentions something outside of the "norm" everyone jumps on them.

So here's the question for career BLMs:
which is better? AF1, AF1+1, Iquira head, Elite Beret, Errant Hat?
i find it really, really, really funny when ppl are too ignorant to see theres a difference between mentioning something outside of the "norm" and being utterly and completely...wrong.

why on earth would you ask which item is better and include an NQ version of an item?
if you were asking if you should even bother to upgrade your af1 hat then this kinda goes to the same argument of...how much is 1 int? 5mp? 1hmp? if af2 isnt in the near future the answer to your second question is af+1, a good blm needs all the enmity down he can get if it doesnt compromise the item slot completely. if u are a gimp blm then i guess u can get elite beret

Either A: Your tanks suck and actually need BLMs to wear high -enm or B: Your BLMs don't know how to recast skin/blink and or don't have -enm merits. Fafhogg is all about the e-peen unless it's spamming wing like a bitch. This is why you see almost all the BLMs in yellow HP on purpose.

    rofl kuno

im taking this along with my prudence rod (although it wont be the super special 1st drop on bahamut) along with xav's ninurta sash he promised me (*'3')/

enitsu doesnt want it, im working up to my flame gorget for WS, and have you seen my whm melee gear? rofl (*'3')<3

(All in efforts to sneak into dynamis as WHM/NIN one day... AND BE PARSED :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD)

    jk jk

2int isnt going to do much more than what you do with philomanth right now, eat more +int food

sure its great for drks, but so i've heard, when drk actually uses SA/TA WS, 300TP spiral hell is better than 300TP Spinning slash (who doesnt use 300TP WSs in fights where melee are pulled in?)

now 7acc and 7atk is a lot for melee skills, but drk dont melee with great sword lol, its always drk/nin for melee stuffs, and drk/thf for WS damage using spiral hell :D

i wouldnt give it to a whm that has no melee gear lol or has no fun meleeing, god forbid doesnt have capped club skill (oh so ready to merit it and crit% :D dont have time )

but i dont care, everyone should lot (*'-') everyone but enitsu, because he's a whore

1 int on a tier 4 spell makes more than 2 or 3 points of damage difference... I would say more like 6 or 7 difference or so. Not much, but Elemental Torque is seriously not needed passed a certain point. Its like wearring Sniper rings, peacock charm, diabolos earring, life belt.. so on. Passed a certain point, you are going to get resists no MATTER what you wear, no need to overdo it. Extra damage comes in tiny amounts, but it all adds up to doing 1300 thunder4 rather than the "base nq blm" doing 1000 or 1100 - the difference between needing 4 tier4 or 5, 3 tier4 or 4... you will ALWAYS get resists occasionally. Its more than just e-peen, doing more damage makes it much quicker to solo. I love -emnity, but its really not needed if you have good tanks, and lets face it, bursting 2000 damage thunder4 on fafnir is fucking hot.

If I had prudence torque I would wear it most of the time until 50% MP, but there are some places obviously that I wouldnt - but with full elemental skill merits, I really dont need to wear elemental gear except on gods/hnms, and I would probably wear torque on aern burns, but otherwise really no need.

No one is trying to say it's not useful for a BLM - but that the "Usefulness" defined is 10 more damage 50% of the time. Which is no reason in hell to let BLMs exclusively lot. Stick with your philomath thingie or w/e you have on there now - the torque has other uses.
All our the BLMs in our LS don't even have full INT merit - and until I see a mad rush of every single BLM in the world going to merit every hour of the day until they have full INT, the arguement just can't justify letting BLMs exclusively lot. Besides what're the chances of a 5INT neck piece being released in the future?
... now what about an item with 7 weapon skill.

But that's what we're all about, especially on this forum. ;o We're end-game players hell-bent on white backgrounds, blue if applicable, 1 more STR, one more INT, one more % haste, one more MAB, 2 more acc, etc. All about the e-peen. '-'

After Static earring, when Windy owns Li'Telor during the Lightning day + double weather while I have 50% mp and yellow hp and somehow darters are down for Thundaga III and our bots won Nidhogg and our SAMs don't miss Tachi: Kasha and by some miracle I got Burn on Nidhogg, I do believe the e-peen cumshot will be seen in sky from DA. ;x

Ok seriously, JPs know all.. and the two prudence torques I've seen on Fenrir are on a BLM and a WHM. (The WHM wears it on Fafnir... with healing staff.....) w

Ok, seriously serious, I love Nirokun. D:

And now to sound like an arrogant BLM, DRK is a melee. They're there to make an SC for BLMs to MB on, not feed the mob TP. Sub SAM and use a gorget to med then SC and watch as BLMs take out 20% of Faffy's life in one round of MBs. Sure we don't make the DRKs do that, but a BLM can dream right?

AT ANY RATE, I will write to you the book of BLM.

    Resist Factors:
    Mob's soft INT cap
Elemental Staff used based on spell type
    Elemental Skill vs. Monster Level
    Monster's magic affinities
    Day+Weather bonuses

That is the priority I consider when talking about resist.

The INT cap doesn't come into effect often while XPing, because a typical BLM has enough INT+ to take care of it for XP mobs. Typically, this INT cap is seen on things of Kirin's nature (get a double INT etude and you will see not only damage increase, but you will see resists magically drop as well.) After you meet a mob's INT cap, the extra INT does not factor versus resist.

Elemental Staff, enough said, I'm not gonna get into it as you'd have to be an idiot.

Elemental Skill vs. Mob Level. Yeah, so, this is kinda self explainitory. Higher the skill, less the resists. Base skill on IT mobs typically means resist, so there's plenty of gear available.

Monster affinities, day&weather(with obi guarantee) all self-explainitory, and if you don't know, quit for WoW.

Damage Factors (in order of calculation):
    INT Bonus
    MAtk Bonus
    Staff Bonus
    Monster's Shell/MDef Bonuses
    Magic Burst Bonus

INT: Typically, I see +4dmg for every 1 INT on a Thunder IV. Dunno if this works for non-Taru, but that's what I see.
MAtk Bonus: Every point of MAtk is +1% dmg. Amazing.
Staff Bonus: I forgot, NQ is like +10% and HQ +15%? I don't know--I use all HQ anyway. Whatever.
Monster's Shell/MDef Bonus: Yeah, whatever, just know it decreases damage at this point.
    Magic Burst Bonus: Self-explainitory unless you RMT'd a 75BLM.

So, what's important, and when is it important?

First, it's good to have a full/near full MAtk+INT based setup. You want to make sure to keep a good elemental skill while in this setup, however, to keep your resists down. Typical gear used is AF1 hat, Weskit, EleTorque, Zenith Mitts, Mahtama Slops (w/e, I can't spell), AF2/Rostrum pumps, INT rings/JSEring, Moldavite+INT earring/Ele Earring. Generally good, all purpose damage increasing stuff without worrying about INT to a high extent. The only mobs that you need heavy INT for are things that bards should be at anyway and can spare an etude or two.

Then you want a EleSkill setup. It's very, very easy to get upwards of 340+ Skill, without sinking a shitload of money into the job. Elite Beret/AF2 hat, Weskit(again!), torque, Af1hands(the +1s are VERY good for this), druid's slops, eleEarring, etc.

God, I don't feel like typing anymore. I just see so much bad information in this thread on the job and it pisses me off to see it.

People who think Elemental Magic skill makes damage go up make me sick.

You're one of those kids that leveled BLM after the RNG nerf, aren't you?

Because your RNG was weak and gimp?

    thx
Actually, no. He was BLM then lvl'ed RNG. It was nerfed when he was in his 60s. Carry on~

Give it to a whm, so they can... you know... Hit nidhogg for 2 points of damage every 10 swings instead of 1 point of damage. THEY NEED TO MAKE LIGHT.
Why is WHM even on the list again? lol
