It's a 40GB HD that came with FFXI, or at least it is for me, I think a friend said he had a smaller one, but I have like 28GB of space w/ FFXI and a lot of saves files on it as well.

The hard drive is used for other games in japan. The game can only get so much bigger without dropping PS2 support, unless sony reintrudces a PS2 that supports the hard drive and puts a bigger one in it.

I wish they made NA / EU versions of the game inter-usable(sp). I purchased the NA version way back and got stuck having to buy NA expansions by importing them. I paid 69.95€ for my copy of CoP thats around 80$ just because I needed the NA CoP and Amsterdam import shops like to scam their customers. It'd be nice if TOAU isn't region fixed.

The differences between the NA and JP version are slightly bigger than a flag that says NA and JP though. the windower IME plugin has to fool ffxi into thinking it's the japanese version in order for JP input to work because it's disabled in the NA version (but the windower can do this because all the code for JP input is still there, its just not being used).

Regionalization primarily helps companies track sales and gives them "more accurate" data (there are other less meaningful reasons as well). However as you haev so aptly shown with your valid complaint, it doesn't benefit the consumer at all. So in essence, regionalization both helps them do business and hinders it at the same time (by losing customers in regions where the product is not being sold. DVD movies are regionalized for mostly the same reasons.

Thank god I have a friend in US now who doesn't mind picking up 2 copies of TOAU so the only thing I"ll need to worry about is shipping now.
