got my parry to 230 and i found from 200-228 or so i would get a ton of skillups off Elder Goobbues in the tree. 228-230 got off Byakko and D weapons in merit pts.

I've been wondering for a while what's best aswell if Gear+ actually help you to achieve easier skill up.

What's sure about parry skill+ and agi+ is that you will parry more often but does it help you overall in getting skillup? I say no It's based on what lvl the mob have to determine how likely you'll be able to "skill" towards it so if you're lvl 200 I'd not suggest Steelshells for trying to skillup.

I've been tanking for over 1 year and tanked pretty much everything in this game several times aswell but It's not until now after 220 that i see a tremendous increase in parry skill going up. Why? Well because it's been to low to actually have a slight chance (even if there's one) to get it since i've been tanking mostly end game HNM.

So a good idea is to look up what lvl you are compare it with your grade (usually this is what ninjas strive for so -A skill) and determine what lvl you're capped then find a mob lvl range that's slightly above or max 7-8lvls above (that means IT I remember from EXP partys that weapons caps faster on VT-IT) and just get it as high as 220 then you can do decopartys or auras for merits while getting alot of parrys including skill.

If anyone know more, have this parsed somehow or have any additional knowledge about it I'd be very intrested to hear about it since there's no real threads about this(that has valuable info)

I'm not a melee so I might be wrong but don't you skillup only when you parry? So can't you conclude if you parry more your chance to skillup also increases?

Unlike evasion(which is totally fucked up), parrying skill can only go up when you parry, so of course it goes up more when you parry more. Parrying rate goes up with more AGI gear. Any NIN that starts to use Seiryu Kote when they get it should be able to tell you this, it also explains why RNG can parry so much also even with parrying skill coming from the subjob only.

Lowering evasion too much just makes it harder for you to solo mobs when trying to skill up. A friend I know did this, but brought along a healer and tanked Orcish Champions(MNK type) near the god for hours on end with Earth staff to raise his parrying skill.

Since it goes up so... slow... it's best to just skill up on shit that's like 10+ levels higher than you all the time to force those .5 skill up points instead of .1 or .2.

You're half right I'd say. Yes indeed you need to parry to actually gain skill but on the other hand max out equip +parry skill and +agi and fight a T mob with 150skill as lv75 ninja would not let you gain skill faster then remove all those +skill gear and solo mobs equal to lv160~ skill However it might be better off using them when actually fighting those lv160 mobs but this is most likely "evasion zone" for a ninja and I'd try -evasion rather then parry+skill slots.

I can't really say if low lvl parry work better with parry+skill but I do know that parry+skill from 200+35(235) which leaves you to a lv67~ mob Fighting towards these yeilds more parry but not accurately more skillup.

    I want someone with the knowledge of this matter to step forward and say what's best other then just Tank alot, which I will do however because it's too random and Ninja rather evade then parry What's funny though is that I parry more against Fafnir then I evade him o;

Anyone know what Parry is based on but skill though?
I mean Evasion is obviously your skill and +evasion compared to the mobs accuracy but what does parry formula say?
My thoughts on this is first it checks Acc towards Evasion Skill+Evasion+ if no Evade it's an hit then it pools down to either Parry, Shield, Guard
However does the ATK,STR or the mobs DEX/AGI have anythign to do with it? or is it all your chars Parryskill+AGI+(Weapon 1hand or 2hand)+(Weapon skill) that determines if it's a successfull Parry? Some might find it funny I add Weapon either 1 or 2hand would make a difference however I've experienced that Staff Parry more often then 2 Katanas would which would mean Weapon Skill wouldn't matter?

I've not parsed this or done tests more then saying it's from my own experience using diffrent Weapons. I also had a theory if the mob uses a 2 hand weapon it would be harder for a single handed weapon to parry it(it sounds like it might be stupid but imagine stop a scythe with a dagger?)

    Edit: Forgot about weapons

You're not going to get 269 in any sane/non botted fashion in a short amount of time. Give it a year and a half of main tanking on PLD > NIN and you'll eventually get it. I think there's one lurker in KI who claims to have gotten 269 by powerlvling it... he stacked -% dmg gear, earth staff, etc and just had mobs beat on him with a healer spam cureing him.

Best to tank a lot as NIN really. SAM will just die, THF evades too much. The simple things like increasing AGI and lowering evasion are the obvious ones, not much else to really say. Don't debuff mobs, fight MNK types.. not much else.

Not sure what the formula is for mob's attributes that affect your parrying rate. Probably their DEX? That would just be their accuracy though >_>

I just gave you the best fucking advice in this thread. But if you want to be a fucking retard jerking off to Pucks and Orcish Champions for 8 hours straight for .1 skill up, go ahead.

It's easy to read the forums and realize you just give bullshit stupid ass remarks for your post count to go up, so no ??? about it. /ignored. and thanks for the GOOD INPUT on the TOPIC I WAS INTERESTED ABOUT. If I wasn't interested in skilling up my parrying quicker than normal, then I won't be asking ways to get it skilled up quicker... duh?

You're looking for a way to PL parrying, and you can't. You're looking for something that does not exist, and I'm schooling you like the punk ass bitch you are.

Too bad you don't, I was trying to figure out if Parrying 269 would be White or Blue for THF75. Lot of sites list it as unknown or A?, some list it as one or the other but have other information wrong (e.g. DRK Great Axe cap)

RDM/WAR can level parrying pretty quickly up to 200ish in Boyahda. Just load up on Terra Staff, Defense Food, Defender, Phalanx, Stoneskin, and tank 8-12 Mandragoras at the same time:
