Question 5 will give you poor inference when you write your sentance or two for analysis. Also, don't use pie charts for any of this.

My playtime has gone down a lot lately - mostly because I've been working more, and I'm running out of stuff to do, and the stuff I can do usually frustrates me to all hell, besides Limbus. So I've cut back a lot lately.

Seeing how many are still in high school is starting to scare me...
You make that sound like a logic statement that's false.College graduate, so not anymore, no.
A college graduate can still be going to school, they're called grad students.
This topic is depressing as hell, but i think the worst thing is some people seem like they want to stretch it and say more hours and some people I can imagine look at the 80+ hours and dream of a life where they can sit and play for that long. Dont worry, most of you will wake up someday and say wtf have I been doing with my time. Sadly even tho ive put mmos aside personally, I still find myself spending any free time surfing forums and reading random shit on the internet, its like my body is just so used to spending alot of time sitting in this chair that I cant help it.
P.S. This is not meant as some kind of flame on people for playing alot, I used to play basically every minute i wasnt at work or asleep for the most part. Still depressing to think about tho![]()
I had a summer job that had me working 80+ hours a week, and I worked those entire 80 hours each week with maybe a 15 minute lunch break. I'm not entirely surprised that someone could vest that much time in one thing.

You know what I find interesting is how a lot of people are stating their specific jobs, their degrees in this and that, and try to come off as more mature than others. The survey didn't ask for any of those details. Reminds me of a certain player on Pandemonium who never failed to go a day without mentioning that he was a law school student.
I recognize the fact that a lot of players in this game have a fairly "successful" or "well-to-do" (by typical American social standards) RL. Isn't it funny how we feel the urge to tell everyone in this game or this network of FF players that we're somehow "better" than them in RL too? Then again, it's probably that same urge to be better that similarly drives you to go AFK in Jeuno strutting your most "uber" gear. I've been just as guilty, but the observation was interesting and I felt compelled to throw it out there for discussion.
If you look at the big picture, other than psychologically self-medicating yourself, it shows nothing more than an apparent lack of self-confidence (don't worry, all of us suffer from this to an extent) when we feel the urge to prove ourselves "better" than the next person in an online environment where the simple truth is:
IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER
Silly, isn't it?
You may be some hotshot on Wall Street, a Harvard law student, or some plastic surgeon from Beverly Hills, but if you are playing that card to get people to respect you in FFXI, you've really got to take a step back and assess what does and doesn't matter in the world.
I can relate though to the way a lot of people feel in this game though. A majority of the people who do play this game are in high school or college, and hence are still "kids" or "youth" by the world's standards. So when your typical "stupid-pointless-scenario" in FFXI happens (think about the last time you shouted for a party or to sell something and some random person starts replying in shouts with pointless rebuttals like 'WTF ARE YOU STUPID TO SELL THAT ITEM FOR THAT PRICE' or 'NOBODY WANTS TO PARTY WITH A BST')... well you just have to dismiss it as people who really have nothing better to do. In the real world, do you think such behavior would fly? Well it might in some social circles; certainly not among the more educated and mannered, I'm sure (of course, here you can debate the insidious politics of the corporate machine and governments, etc. and still say that it's all fake on the outside).
The very fact that people sometimes feel the need to separate themselves publicly from the typical masses of FFXI and MMORPG's tells us that there's too much idiocy and pointless stupidity around. There's no need to come here and try to separate ourselves though; just recognize once again that you're in a fake world that doesn't give a shit about your RL, and just tell yourself IT DOESN'T MATTER.
Hahaha I don't even know why I went off on this rant, but flame on, discuss, etc. I didn't mean to hijack this post, I wish you the best on the survey.

I didn't even read your post btw.
Have you ever thought that the fact that you're concerned with how someone is representing themselves on an internet messageboard is just as much a problem as someone feeling they need to represent themselves in a possibly embelished and positive light on an internet messageboard?Originally Posted by Tanthalas
Just a thought.
