If I have the Sword of trials for savage blade, but don't wish to continue in order to get the Cesti's of trial, what do i do? dump the sword of trials or trade it back to the guy in sandoria?

I haven't done it myself, but I recall going back to Shantoto with my Pole of Trials before I broke the latent and there was an option that seemed like you could "give up" on it. You could perhaps try that option, and seeing if you can get the other trial quest instead.
