    Blizzard is smarter than Square

I didn't know where to post this. I thought about general, but its game related. I thought about the WoW section, but I didn't want to get burned at the stake. So FFXI talk it is, and I'll tie it into FFXI just so the thread doesn't get moved.

Sams claims Blizzard is not interested in doing that with World of Warcraft.

A second reason for not porting the game is Microsoft's use of Xbox Live. According to Sams, Xbox Live is "too protected from outside influences, so play between 360 and PC owners would be difficult. Without overcoming that issue a 360 version is not going to be considered."

This may leave many fans to wonder if World of Warcraft will ever be seen on a console in any variation. Sams had this to say on the subject; "I wouldn't say we have no console plans. Nothing is in place at the moment, but we may be looking at something along those lines in the future."
I just found it interesting that Blizzard doesn't want to port WoW to other systems is because it could compromise the game, and can't help but laugh that the #1 reason FFXI sucks is because the PS2 limits everything Square can do (according to them, I still think its bullshit).

Square, please wake up. The PS2 is dead. Drop support for PS2, force people to upgrade to the PC or Xbox360 version and fix your game. The PS2 is a piece of crap in terms of technology now, nobody should have a PC that isn't more powerful than it in every way.

The only reason PS2 loads mobs faster is that its processor is only running FFXI. A PC has to deal with the bullshit that is windows, on top of whatever other programs you have running in the background (although, ahem, some of those programs running in the background might simulate the mob popping early for you, LOL, I dunno !1!)!!)

I think if someone had a computer that only had FFXI installed, and had nothing else running at all, they'd probably see mobs popping early too.

    PS2 is gay.

Lol, SE would never improve FFXI, they would much rather make another MMORPG where you have to start over again and waste 5 years of your life.

Actualy, I heard that PS2 renders NPCs before PC modles as well. Could just be a rumor tho.

I understand what your saying, but It seems like you would hit a plateau with the top of the line PCs where even when loading content because their upper echelon is so much greater then that of the PS2s that it would compensate or surpass the PS.

But I don't know one way or another.

bzzzzzzzzzzzzz wrong, the reason why ps2 loads mobs faster then the pc version is because the pc version is a piece of shit port that is poorly coded and was never truly optimized. It has nothing to do with what is running idle in the back of your computer.

FFXI for PC if i remember correctly uses mostly your cpu. If it took more advantage of your gfx card you would be able to run around jeuno with shadows set to high and not dip fps etc

The reason Square isn't dropping support for the PS2 is because in Japan they got the PS2 version first, so a lot of them still play on that. If you think that Square is going to drop support for a huge portion of Japanese players then...

...or is it just because Blizzard horribly fails at making console games lol?

How is that any different than me saying the PC is slower because the cpu has to deal with other operations at the same time while the PS2 doesn't.

It is different because SE is such a noob PC developer that they do not take advantage of the power of modern day video cards. The CPU pulls all the weight in FFXI, if they had taken advantage of video cards the game would run 10 times smoother.

Didn't someone say that at Fan Festival they were releasing some kind of groundbreaking announcement about the future of FFXI that was one of the most exciting announcements to date? Maybe they're announcing that the PS2 can go suck a dick and they're dropping support for it

Dropping support for PS2 would be like saying fuck you to all of their PS2 users. There are ALOT of PS2 onry users (mostly in japan) and if they suddenly decide to go PC/360 only then they will not only lose alot of players but alot of future customers too.

What they should do is continue to support PS2 but also make content exclusive to PC and 360. Like releasing ToA but also putting in patches/expansions that require those said systems, this way everyone is happy and PS2 users will be motivated to get the other clients to play on. Saying that, I think its a little too late in FFXI's life cycle for SE to do something like this, maybe a new epic MMO on future consoles is what they'd rather do instead.

And another thing, Xavier. I understand your views about how the PS2 is a shitty console for today's FFXI and all, but even you said it yourself: "SE could fix the game in one patch". FFXI's problems lie in poor itemisation and poor endgame content. The PS2 doesn't stop them from fixing these problems, so maybe you should cry about them fixing them and not dumping hundreds and thousands of players just so you could have another gobby bag?

Xavier, you're right but I think we should take a step back and look at Blizzard and Square. Blizzard's a PC game studio, while Square's been making cross-platform ports of console games for years. I think it's sorta natural for Blizzard to be able to say that porting a game from PC to console may not go that well, but it was also pretty natural for Square to try to port FF to PC after PS2, and now to X360 because PS2's are showing their age.

There is one simple fix they could make that would solve the inventory problem forever. I've said it 100 times but I guess I'll say it again.

Make Ex items able to be traded

This wouldn't break anything, because you could still achieve the exact same effect as Ex by doing the following.

    1) When you get an Ex item, it is automatically "bound" to you. This happens the second it is distributed from the treasure pool, the second you see the message "Obtained: item", etc. Basically right before it enters your inventory.

    2) Ex items have text, similar to signature text but maybe a different location to avoid confusion, the name of the player whom it is bound to.

    3) Ex items can be traded, dboxed, and /tossed, but not bazaared, sold on Auction House, or sold to NPC.

    4) If you are not the user to whom the Ex item is bound, you also cannot /toss it and you can only trade it or dbox it to the person who it is bound to. You also cannot equip it, or "Use" it like if it's food or something.

    Inventory problems solved.

The other solution would be to make every single individual item in the game storable by the storage NPCs.
