Hey, I'm Neil, another developer (or rather, designer) over at Vanaguide.com. Since this thread is getting a lot of attention, I thought I'd let you guys know that we've just opened up a competition to design some of your very own Signature backgrounds. The winning designs will be added to the application.
Check out the front page of vanaguide.com for more details.
Get submitting and thank you for the positive feedback.![]()

Custom Backgrounds przOriginally Posted by Neil

That's my biggest issue with them right now. Sometimes I've scrolled through threads looking for people's sigs/avatars to find a specific post but this makes it hard when fifty people now have one of ten variations of the same fundamental sig.Originally Posted by Lordwafik
We're looking to release new sizes & desgisn with different fonts, too.
Now you have a chance to change that...if you dare!That's my biggest issue with them right now. I understand the bandwidth issue if we were to use/upload our own, but is there a way that we could host the picture on our own server and something? COuld have an option on the program to call the background from a diffrent server or soemthing.. I dunno.
Submitted 4 backgrounds. :wink:
Let me refer you to this forum topic for the reason why we won't be supporting personal backgrounds. At least for now.Well thats all nice ans stuff, but after its all said and done, people will still be using the same background.

I liked the RBG option he mentioned. If it was possible to whip something up like that (Plus user submitted backgrounds) I think thats all youd really need. I dont see font color as a huge issue, can stay white for the most part id think.Originally Posted by Neil
But yeah, RBG option would rock.
Think of it this way : You wont get a big fanbase if you lock people in to use certain things. Especially for someone like me, i dont like having my stuff look like everyone elses. Also it's annoying because on forums, alot of peoples posts are recognized by their sigs (instant recognization) , however with everyone having the same sig it's kind of meh.Originally Posted by Neil
If it was more of a status bar kind of thing i can understand it all being the same, but you have created it from the beggining to have an image in the background.
sigh .net v2.0 ; ;
