I love a number of things about this show. I've always particularly liked the serialization of a show where one episode actually matters in the next, characters can die, actions have results, etc. They've done a good job so far of avoiding the stagnation that can easily happen in a successful show (don't change the formula, things will go south).

The best serialized show I've ever seen (the first 4 seasons of Babylon 5) had a beginning, a buildup and a climax (although the concluding 5th season sucked). The creator of that series had the entire story plotted out beforehand, and knew where things were going. This made the series make sense. Lost seems to be building the same way, in that the producers seem to have a good idea where the story is going.

Lost also answers some of it's questions. Not all of them, but some. Many of the answers lead straight to new questions, but they do progress the story. Other shows have had issues with either not answering questions (X-Files) or answering the questions and not being sure where to go from there (Babylon 5 season 5). It seems (so far) as if Lost writers have an idea where the show is going and some pretty key steps along the way.

Lost rarely has an episode where nothing happens. A lot of its time is filled with flashbacks, but they've done a good job of balancing back story with current plot developments.

    Potential Issues:

I realize that every show has repeats, but this is getting ridiculous. The amount of weeks between September and May (36) is considerably greater than the number of episodes (22-24) in a season, so some repeats are necessary. I don't think they are doing this intelligently, though. Having:
1 episode new > 1 rerun > 1 episode new > 2 reruns > 1 episode new > 4 reruns > 3 new episodes > 2 reruns > season finale isn't a good way to either acquire new fans or satisfy your current ones. Especially in a show that's as tightly plotted as Lost. It might work for Friends, Simpsons or something less sequential, but in a series as wrapped as tightly as Lost, you're going to confuse people.
I think 24 has done something brilliant in that you reduce the show to a 4-5 month season, and simply show the season all over again during the offseason. This would satisfy current fans better as well as allow newer fans to catch up in the offseason. 24's a little different in that the plot breaks between seasons, whereas in Lost, it doesn't, but I still think I'd rather wait 8 months once between new episodes then catch 2-3 new episodes a month for 8 months.

I also realize that the time discontinuity will slowly be catching up to them. Each episode takes a day or two of "show time," and they've only been on the island for, what, 60 days? Not only is Hurley not getting skinnier (which he COULD do), Walt is getting older at a rapid pace. At some point, they'll have to tie up his storyline (kill him off?) before he grows facial hair at the age of 9 (or however old he is now). I'm assuming this is part of the reason why he was partially written off the show, but I'm wondering how they will handle this.

lol he isn't getting any skinnier because it's a show? Since when does that matter? If anything, it should be as real as possible. That's where I think it's dumb, unrealistic shit doesn't interest me. (Probably why im not a big sci-fi fan outside of the X-Files)

You can make a case saying 24 is unrealistic because it's always one man saving everyone. But at least the shit that happens is realistic and could happen in real life.

I don't know, don't bash me for my opinion on it, there's a reason there's many TV shows on. So if people don't like one, they can watch something different.

Oh and to the guy talking about the kid who is aging too fast for the show, same thing happening to the Harry Potter douchebag.

And yet you'd know he's been stashing food away all this time and stuffing his face if you actually were watching the show, instead of criticizing it because some guy is still fat after 60 days. Some people just have a really bad metabolism. I know people who can eat all they want and not gain weight, and people who unless they excercise daily a good amount and watch what they eat, they won't lose a pound. So it's not entirely unrealistic.

There was another character named Henry Gale (the name the prisoner calls himself) in an old movie that also had a balloon in it.......The Wizard of Oz.

For those of you that helped about the torrent shit, thanks. I'm nearly caught up. Two more episodes to watch and I'm good. This show is so freaking addicting and so fucking crazy.

Edit: This is on the Oceanic Airlines website hidden behind a bunch of pictures:

If anyone should find this message, please get word I'm alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they're getting worse...

    Sally

I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward word of my fate to my parents.
And the website is really cool with booking a seat too.

I just finished episode 9 of season 2. I'm having trouble finding torrents, because I suck at torrents and searching for them. I need Season 2, Episode 10 and up. Anyone want to lend me a hand?

Talk about uneventful even for a Lost episode.

Regardless I liked how they developed Sun and Jin's relationship, and hopefully (unless she indeed did sleep with that guy) they will be back to being a couple for good now. When he said "I love you" to her in English...I got teary eyed.

Uggh I wish they'd stop teasing us with this Henry character....well next episode we should know alot more, looks to be eventful.

I'm OK with uneventful periodically, so long as the episodes aren't three weeks apart. Hooray for having a new episode two weeks in a row. Too bad that's actually something to celebrate.

I do like the fact that even with "uneventful" episodes, they still do a good job of holding the viewer's attention. This show would be about half as long without the flashbacks, but they do a good job of advancing the story of the show at a more controlled rate. If not for the flashbacks, either the on-island story would have to move a lot quicker or the story would be mostly uneventful episodes.

I don't think there's any doubt that Henry is one of "the others" anymore. I always thought he was, cause of the look he gave Sayid after Jack pulled him out of the armory when he was torturing him. It was only for a brief second, the look kinda said "haha I'm splitting you up now my plan is working".

So next episode should definetly be eventful, unless they decide to not include much from Sayid, anna lucia and charlie's expedition and just fill the episode with crap from the camp(they've done this before <.<)

I dunno. Looked like you saw a balloon in next week's episode.

My question is this: If he says he crashed 4 months ago, why don't they just ask him about a world event that happened 6 months ago? (i.e. Who won the world series?) From all indications the castaways have seen, the Others have been on the island for far longer than that. His being able to tell them who won the World Series or whatnot would lend some credence to his story at least.

Then again, I've always found the "Why didn't this fictional character do that?" argument pointless, but it was the first thing I thought of, and Lost has usually been pretty good about answering the "obvious" questions.
