Hopefully next match is a Brenner match, not Ballista. Just did a Brenner match that was more fun then every Ballista match I've ever played. Yeah most of Siren is pretty mature when it comes to endgame, at least in comparison to other servers. We're obviously still FAR from matching our JP counterparts though.
All the HNM LS's on Shiva have teamed up and we're doing a Brenner tournament. There are 10 LS's in all. My team has first round and we're about to go on our match at 6pm est today. 12 v 12 are the rules. I can't wait, it should be a lot of fun.

I got into Ballista too late to be good enough for Royale. I did compete but I'm so much more experienced now than I was at the time of Royale lol

Wow...that sounds like a great idea. I'll toss that idea around here on Siren. What are the details, subjobs? Level cap? I love no cap but would be willing to do 60 at the lowest. Kinda curious how you're doing a 10 LS tournemant, but Im sure you figured that out somehow. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Btw what title do you have that broke the vanaguide sig?

Must be nice to have linkshells that aren't constantly mpking and outbotting each other and can be civil enough to actually do fun things like this. Such a thing could never get off the ground on Phoenix

Damn that is a really really good idea, don't see stuff like that happen much, especially on quetz, nice job and good luck in your tournament.

The Japanese team that won was never scored on once in their rise to the top for the Japanese Ballista Royale. Not once! They are an entire league of their own and if the people who won from NA played the second best in JP it would have been a closer match... I don't know wtf was up wither their WHM though that was insane... I think I saw use of a lot of stoneskin items though.

Thf depends on luck sometimes but stealing right as a team tries to score is the best thing that can ever happen in a ballista match. Trick Attack is also the pretty easy to pull off in Ballista I find and SA hide is always nice... DRK has perks too for sure it would be a tough call... but thief certainly isn't without perks. Their thief pulled off some nice moves most of what I saw.

I laughed when they said they were going to play the JP team though, I was like... this is gonna set FFXI in game relations back to the beginning for JP > NA or else it will be the coolest stomping of JP players ever and we could all go NA only.

What was up with everyone screaming USA USA though... NA damnit... don't forget canada people, we equally kick ass.

I saw a vile and a vile+1, but missed the other items she used. I saw others on the team spamming Hi-Potion +3's though.

Lol, this is the LS we had to claim against for over a year. Luckily they maxxed out of tired of the kings, so they dont do HNM much.

SE recopied our characters last week so we had to repack all our meds and whatnot and checking the AH history for items like remedies, mulsums, and such we saw that our JP counterparts were doing the same. We kinda knew it was coming not that it helped any >.>

They prepped for the match: C4NT wins normal ballista's and tournament ballistas by petra-whoring and killing easy targets, not just going balls-out killing like Lovehame does. All priceless had to do was keep their WHM up since that was going to be the only target.

oh wait, i think I mentioned that in another thread lolz

You don't know shit about Ballista, Raineer. Give it up and live up to your 'I don't care about Ballista' pledge.

Not to take anything away from C4NTs NA win (though I question the competitive quality of any and all NAs), but losing 0-44 to anyone shows you yourself have issues with your strat. Raineer isn't saying their strat doesn't work, he's just saying its flawed, because it relies on the other team not being able to have a concentrated enough effort to break through your defences. Lovehame showed that aggresiveness and coordination will always rival over apprehensiveness and "camping."

Reminds me of FPS clan matches when the other team would camp, and not expect the rush, and you'd literally come out of the match without a death, because the other team wasn't prepared for the rush. Making the other person REACT to your ACTIONS is the key to victory.

There's also the team who xpects the rush, knows ectly when to use flashbags and sort of things so that they absolutely fortify and make an area somewhat impenatrable. It works pretty much both ways. When a team never has a point scored against them ever though even against JP teams though, I don't think I ccould question the competitive quality of all NA's. Lovehame is just good, their whm is like a god...

Strategy is all about making it work for you and what you do best, I wouldn't say there is ever 1 way to do things. their strat was good enough to get them where they were but I think they failed at adapting to the situation and the team they played was just that good.

If their is one thing I notice in FPS that dooms a team is the failure to adapt, if you can't handle a rush then you shouldn't keep camping and trying again and likewise if you can't handle a fortified area you need to work out a pickoff strat... I notice most people fail at adapting their play style and get so stuck playing one way it dooms them.

I'd still like to see the top NA team versus the number 2 JP team and see if it's close before I played the all JP > all NA card.

I like this anonymous person, he knows what he is talking about ^^...sometimes. Raineer doesn't have the first clue about ballista, he just doesn't our LS so pretty much will do whatever it takes to get the "one up" . Sometimes he even coins special terms for us that don't actually mean anything, like "Petra Whoring". What is that supposed to be? ^^; If you are refering to "killing people and then digging for petra to score"..... i'm pretty sure thats how you play ballista, though I'm no expert right?

There has been a lot of guessing at why we lost to lovehame, but no one has really grasped it. First of all, they are most importantly a better team. Theres no way around that one =P. And, yes, they had better meds then we did, most importantly making it impossible to run them out of MP, which was a serious problem for us even a few minutes into the fight.

Finally, they were stacked to the brim with speed. The fact that they had double minne allowed them to flee away with meds/items/sprint every single time they were targetted, before we could do enough damage to finish them off. Since our mages were being handled, we had no bind or stun methods to stop this.

That, is the largest reason we lost. We dont play a hit and run game, from the very start it is constant pressure on the other team. This is why we go into every match with a 3 target order. And yes, of course we pick the 3 easiest targets, who wouldn't? For our match against Lovehame it was rng>drk>whm. Since our first two targets showed us that we couldn't keep them from running away, we switched to the whm a little more then half way through.

I'd like to thank those of you that offered your support. Even if Lovehame destroyed us, we still won the NA royal and thats no small accomplishment. And to those of you like Raineer, please log back in to the game and get some perspective before you try to talk down to other people's successes ^^v

It's cool you beat all NA's, you can blame the 3 anonymous trolls that like to make fun of my loltwo ballista matches for me ragging on you guys so much. Ballista sucks, I have no desire to spend gil on every match in meds just to stay awake and unsilenced, I'm a crafter and like to put my gil into things that make me more money. I was in one match where you had to dig up items only and it was a blast, ironically it was almost all-JP and it was just a huge slugfest..one of the funnest things I've ever done in the game.

I know what it's like to face a foe, and I know what it's like to win "by whatever means necessary". I believe it was boarder that /say at tiamat "elemental seal is just part of the game". I believe playing ballista by running away from all possible danger, /petra as much as you can, and killing a mage to get breech status is chickenshit and I always will, doesn't matter if it's TMO or whoever. You can kill tiamat by tanking it and killing it, or you can ES/sleep for 90 seconds after every bloodpact. Both ways gets you the drops, if people can't see the difference between the 2 ways then they are blind..

I have a history with Edarion (who's a gigantic ass but yeah I guess you have to kiss up to him for your drops), which will always generate hatred for your linkshell. I like when SOMEONE finally posts under their real character name, it generates at least a shred of respect. Hell, I even respect Myanth for his 1 post a week ago on the topic, and I've talked to Kimiko alot in game in the past as well. I don't care who sides with you or not, when you're slinging stones from behind an invisible wall with a fake name, that's about as chickenshit as it gets... Regardless, my hats' off to you Yavanna, thank you for at least posting with your name and making some valid points.
