I liked the original MGS3 but really why can't snake move when he is aiming in first person.. other than the obvious fact that the controls aren't planned out well enough to take that into consideration. Cool story and characters and the voices were top notch of course. Looks like they will be adding some cool stuff.. maybe I will rent it.

If Snake could move in first person view it would basicly turn in to an FPS and imo, ruin the game. I guess a lot of people would like it, but it just wouldn't be MGS

Yeah I agree to some extent.. but MGS was not first person to begin with. Sounds like an excuse for bad control scheme. The original Metal Gear for NES was not a FPS either. Did you ever play Chronicles of Riddick:Escape from Butcher Bay? It was for Xbox and came out later for PC. That game involved stealth kills and was done in first person.... was not too hard though, but was entertaining nonetheless.

cause I think a professional who actually wanted to hit something wouldn't shoot and run at the same time?

Nope you can still move. Snake can move and shoot outside of first person, but cannot in first person. I could see a point if he was lying down using a sniper rifle, but that is not always the case. True professionals do not have to stop to hit their target. In the MGS world, Snake has to stop to aim with a pistol lol... well at least the 3rd person camera is handled well in that game. They could make an good movie out of the MGS games. I bet in the movie though he could aim and move at the same time... like everyone else does lol.

Nobody said anything about running (I said move). In other games it is beneficial to not move, but you have a choice.. moving makes noise and alerts people to your presence in MGS, but you do not have the chance to make that same mistake if you are in first person mode. You can move and aim outside first person fine. I liked MGS3 but that was a major fault in that game and the others also.

A movie is a movie, it's meant to look cool. I dunno how many times I've seen a cop movie where a guy does a fucking bullshit maneuver and fucking hits someone.

The whole point of moving and shooting is so you can cover your ass while you get to the next position, if you happen to hit someone, then good for you. In the game snake can move and shoot if you hold square (I think) and run around pressing the weapon button. The whole point of the first person mode is the hit something, you're telling me you could hit something in first person mode if you were moving around? It's cause snake is a professional that he stops while aiming.

Hell, even Leon in RE4 stops while aiming, it's just the smart thing to do if you wanna hit your target...

Edit: eh, you editted your post =\ point still stands though, moving while shooting = stupid

Exactly! Snake will still autoaim on the enemy when in 3rd person mode, but you'll need at least 3 shots to get them down. This is realistic.

It would be impossible to hit anything in 1st person mode while running, cause Kojima is obsessed about making the pysichs as realistic as possible. Your view would be jumping up and down and you wouldn't be able to get a steady aim at all unlike FPS games where your char just sort of slides along the ground like a snail on speed.

Edit: Agrees with Ulmega's last post 100% too.

I am arguing that it is a stealth game and it should be possible to move while aiming. That way someone can accidentally hit their controller and fuck up and get killed trying to aim and move out into visibility. I do not want the game telling me I can not move when I know I can still look and aim in a direction and move to a spot I think I will have a better angle on the target. You do not need to go outside FPS mode to accomplish this, it was a control decision where the developers did not give the gamer the choice to do so. Snake can do this outside FPS mode, no reason he can't aim and move while in it. The only reason is that the control scheme changes while in FPS a little.

I think MGS control system is prefect the way it is now. The only modification I'd want is a tad more elaborate hand to hand combat system, like the moves you see Snake doing on the title screen.

If you feel that strongly then it's your problem, I think the controls are fine as they are. The fact that if you could move while aiming in first person would make it an entirely different game, and with game mechanics it's all to easy to run and shoot (and hit something) at the same time. It destroys the the stealth aspect, something Kojima rightfully didn't want to do, going gun-ho is baaaaad. I do agree it's a little annoying to have to go out of FP mode and move to get a better angle, but it's livable and easy to get around (I mean, you can hold L/R2 and strafe left or right a little to help you do pop-shots or peer around corners to aim, but you never hit anything accurately unless you stay still)

I also agree with Aerandir about the CQC. It's so awesome they really should give it more purpose, the last fight in MGS2 is SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL!! Kojima is a fucking god.

I think you mean MGS3? That fight owns, although it's easy as fuck, but when you parry The Boss' CQC moves it looks so smooth and professional, it's awesome. Thats what I think you should be able to do with guards too, parry them when they try to kick you and slam you with their guns. The punch-punch-kick combo and slam-into-the-ground thing gets old pretty fast.

One of the best things about MGS3 though, is sneaking up on a guard and let his throat feel the sharp edge of your knife. Brutal and beautiful

Yeah I meant 3 XD, it's hard at first then it gets easier, some of the CQC counters look so awesome, although the PPK gets old the way Snake slams them into the ground is pure brutalness, so sexy.

Movie is already being talked about... rumor has it that Kojima has signed with a director, for the movie.

Yeah fixing the camera should definitely make the game better and the online mode should be fun for a while.
