Yes. Yes I am.
But, regardless of my BAC atm, I still stand by the FACTS.
And, I stand by my support of Apathy's victory. THEY completed the story, no matter who helped with a couple words along the way.
and to Kuno :
I'm sorry I didn't write a 2 line post like 75% of the other ppl not affiliated with the LS/server/game that completely detailed/berated the events. After reading every post, I thought that maybe a little common sense was called for. It is, after all is said and done, JUST A GAME.
No real point to this post. Congrats again Apathy.
But I would like to interject a few I think at least interesting points on the conversation.
Apathy was not the first group to kill AV. SE hires game testers just like every other game developer to test these things. People who are interjected into the environment without knowing his weaknesses, or how to beat him, and are allowed to fight him as much as they need until they figure out how to beat him. I'm most certain as anyone who thinks about it that AV was tested to this huge extent, and if there was any true flaws in AV's code, SE would have fixed it by now with as many pops and legitament fights that have occured. And now they're apparently deciding wether or not they think the wall glitch should be fixed? This leads us to believe that yes, some other group has killed AV, without using the wall glitch, through some strategy yet unused or perfected by the FFXI playerbase.
The testers main advantage over us was undoubtedly experience. Granted I wouldn't doubt they were granted or had absolutely absurd eq to accomplish this task with, fights like this come down to strategy largely so that's irrelevent. What I do think we can assume from these rather obvious facts of AV his development, is that he was killed before Apathy, on a test platform, and it wasn't done through use of any sort of 'wall glitch', or exploit. Which means that somehow or another this mob is killable without use of the wall-glitch.
Apathy, a but tyrannic, a tad egotistical and frowned upon by a large amount of our server. Is despite all that undisputably the strongest NA and possibly single strongest HNMLS we have currently. If they can farm pop items efficiently and actually fight AV enough times, I imagine they'll figure out just how to beat him, without use of the wall glitch. Problem being, it would be well out of their typical course of action to just stop using this wall unless it's apparent they had too or another more effective method was found. So in short, unless use of this wall is removed or deemed illegal, we may never, ever know how AV what sort of strategies, (Namely that of the tanking variety) were meant to be used for killing AV.
I personally want to see Apathy, or perhaps another LS commit themselves to killing AV without use of the wall. I do see a great issue in concerns to the spellcasting if it was not intended to stop. (Other then I did hear, a rumor that Apathy kept a constant volley of Aspir on AV to help accomplish this I don't know for sure.) It is clear on the other hand I think that the 2hrs were intended to be stopped in some way.
I also heard/read somewhere that the reason Gorgan was spamming dia, literally non-stop on AV as he was, was because they had found that the casting of it was in someway disabling AV. (Perhaps the animation spam or whatever rendered the mobs AI inable to execute commands.) But there's no proof of that either. And if it is true, that can be argued as much an exploit as the wall glitch was.
Summary: I'm convinced AV is killable in some way besides what we've seen so far. Undoubtedly some of the things we've learned and now know are to be used to great affect in this overall strategy. But I'm also worried we may never know the truth to all of it. We may very likely end up with everyone fighting him in this manner, for all eternity, despite it not necessarily coinciding with SE's intention, if they can't deem it as truly an 'exploit', since it's such a cloudy issue to them.
Either way, I still feel it's a gargantuan accomplishment from Apathy, love 'em or hate 'em, I think pretty much everyone on our server respects them for doing it. And is very glad that it happened on Remora, by NA's, even if it was, 'Apathy'.

ok everyone who has made that arguement you should do the following:
1) log into ffxi
2) type "/playtime"
3) shut the fuck up
I'm waiting patiently for the standard "I has teh sacks wtih teh hawt chix!!!1!1!" rebuttal that always follows someone being called out over playtime...Originally Posted by Raineer

If you read what I said carefully, Brigandish Blade does not apply for the situation I just described. Yes, his HP does stop going down... But that isn't the end, there is something you can do to finish him off. It's HP doesn't just stop there forever and never move.
