Any one else notice that the economies across all servers are starting to balance out and equal eachother? Look at the gap in those, it keeps getting smaller and smaller. I guess buying shit on one server and planning to bring it to another won't work as well as people thought.

that's not necessarily such a great metric to run on. without knowing what's in their basket, this isn't terribly helpful. even within the basket there could be tremendous variance on the prices of individual items. let us, for a moment, assume that the basket contains 2 items, v claws and dlogs. both are fundamental materials for endgame items, and similar. let us assume that on one server, server A, divine logs are 500k, and v claws are 300k. these prices are made up, don't complain that they're off, if they are. as such, our basket for server A is valued at 800k. meanwhile, on server B, divine logs and v claws are 400k each because someone's gotten their LS on a season's greetings kick. (i'm making this up as i go. be quiet about how little seasons greetings is done!) their basket is valued at 800k as well. on the other hand, if i moved from server B to server A, i could buy 10 dlogs with sufficient capital and sell them for a 1m profit. alternatively, i could move v claws from A to B and make the same profit. this is despite the servers having the same basket value. while the basket can be a useful tool in determining the general prosperity of a server, without examining its contents, the usefulness and application of the resultant data is significantly diminished, as was evidenced in the above hypothetical.

bringing real numbers to the table, we can see, for example, that kujata has prices for dlogs at 400k and vclaws at 450k for a basket of 850k, while remora has 600k for a dlog and 330k for a vclaw for a basket of 930k. this shows only a net difference between the servers of 80k, but by buying a single Dlog on kujata and moving to remora, i stand to make 200k a unit! FFXIAH's "economic index" for remora is 13.86, while kujata is 13.67. the index prices vary only by about 1%, and my limited basket varies only about 9%, and despite all this, by moving dlogs from kujata to remora, i stand to make a 50% profit.

well thats why this is an "average" and you dont know what's in the basket for that reason. Obvousily if you take a smaller sample, you're gonna get varying results. but if you're taking a smaller sample, that defeats the purpose.

What happened to Phoenix with that big jump in prices near the bottom?

What happened to Phoenix with that big jump in prices near the bottom?

FFXI AH uses a few items to rank your servers "economy". Someone on that one day, WAY overpaid for one or two of those things multiple time, causing the price to go up, so Phoenix spiked that day.

It'd be interesting to see if the relative gap has remained about the same between the servers, and the apparent gap is only smaller because the overall average is 1/10 of what it used to be.
