Already I've seen people saying "I was playing the beta, until this game out and I uninstalled FFXI right after" and all that. People saw FFXI as an outdated, shitty PS2 port that didn't belong on the almighty Xbox360 and this is just another dent in its armor.

The difference is, you already know how good... or addicting... FFXI is. People from afar who haven't played it at all or played it to level 20 don't know.

Piracy is so cool. Its the reason normal people (read: ethical) are forced to pay more for products, so that the companies can recover lost revenue. Thanks.
that's just plain bullshit.. the companies would have games that high in price with or without piracy. Look at the music CDs... they could be so much lower but they have always been 15-20 dollars even when they first came out (and there were no piracy on the CDs at that point cause it wasn't so easy and this was brand new technology).

anyways.. I wonder if it's as good as Gothic/Gothic II (personally, I'm waiting for Gothic III)

Piracy started way before cds. And its NOT bullshit that piracy costs the companies millions each year. Its copyright infringment, its illegal. Its just nearly impossible to prosecute (not enough resources, too many people) so nobody stops doing it.

I'm going to take a guess and say Oblivion isn't even close to 200 hours, it's much much more. Morrowind could easily occupy the most skilled RPG player for more than 200 hours, and seeing as how Oblivion is the next game in the set, I'd be willing to say it can easily provide up to 30 days of gameplay.

There is more to the Elder Scrolls series than it's storyline. In fact, most people who I know that play the ES series don't even finish the story. Truthfully, they play the game how they want to, getting spells/gear joining guilds, improving their skills to further their characters, etc. By the time you become a god in game you usually go around looking for fun things to do, such as going into places you normally shouldn't enter where there are lots of guards and shit. Or go kill a very important person, such as the high priest of the game lol.

There is always lots to do in ES series. My friends and I spent like a week playing on our own just playing Kajit's or w/e their called and improving our security and acrobatics and similar skills until we could pickpocket anyone, and jump around towns as if we were little Spiderman™s.

Simply put, this series as I know it has so much potential, I don't see it getting old in any time close to 200 hours.

(Ignoring the piracy topic for now)

Aaaagh, 14 hour Oblivion marathon today. I'm level 7 and just got to the first of the Oblivion gates... went inside, reached the tower, got my ass handed to me multiple times. I need to find some better light armor than fur/leather, assuming any exists. Did a really odd quest in Skingrad, e-stalking FTW. (goddamn conspiracy nuts)

I was really into Morrowind for a few weeks after it came out, much the same way that I'm addicted to Oblivion right now. However, all of a sudden all of Morrowind's flaws came to the forefront, the game became horribly un-fun, and I ended up selling the game. It seems like they've fixed a lot of Morrowind's flaws in Oblivion, so I'll most likely end up buying it this week.

PC vs. XBox versions: Damn you to hell, consoles, for fucking up the interface on the PC version. There are practically no keyboard shortcuts for the various subscreens, you have to navigate the UI with the mouse constantly. The HUD is ridicuously oversized for a PC's resolution (probably looks great on a shitty TV, though). You get used to it, but... eh. I have 120+ keys on my desk in front of me, let me use more than ten of them please!

    Going to sleep now.

never said piracy didn't exist before I'm just saying it didn't exist with CDs as soon as they came out because they were newer and harder to copy. Things got easier for pirates over time when it came to duplicating CDs so now it's no problem but when it first came out it wasn't common if at all. But, CD prices were the same then as now. If piracy suddenly came to a dramatic halt companies would charge the same prices for new games and new products as they do now.

Gamespot gave the 360 version a 9.6, and the PC version a 9.3

I didn't read the reviews but I'm guessing the lower score was probably a result of a crappy interface on the PC, dunno. I started playing yesterday on my stepdads 50inch hdtv at a 1080 resolution and IT LOOKED FUCKING BEAUTIFUL. Game is really awesome so far, it kinda feels like a mmo offline, so much customization. It took me 20 minutes to make my character, the amount of detail you can put into the facial structure is amazing. I had no idea you could pick from various races too, it was neat.

Combat so far is fun, but I kinda suck at aiming with magic. I was having trouble aiming the fireball at moving rats, so I ended up just using a sword and shield to kill them. Really good game so far, sucks that I have to go back to school and play on a shity 20inch non-hdtv today.

Yeah, the game is tits on an HDTV. I went to my friend's house and played it on his standard def and I was disappointed. There was a shitload of fog and everything looked kinda meh. I haven't seen the game on a 50 inch yet though...mine's not near that big haha

Did any of you guys actually play Morrowind for the Xbox?

It sounds like Oblivion is the same thing but prettier to the eyes.

It's about 200+ hours of gameplay, more or less depending on you and how many side quests / skill'ing you do (to answer Lujan's question) and its alot like the challenge of online RPG's quests to get great armor, without the ability to show it off.

Fable pulled this off, and it was fun. The reason so is that it WAS only 40 hours. Single player games aren't meant to grind out like online games can. Skilling up jumping skill in Morrowind meant that you had to literally stand there, pushing "A" 10000 times to level up. Shit like farming, grinding, etc. are ok in online games because there's social aspects to it. The only people that wanna do this offline, alone, and for no reason at all are the people that played Harvest Moon.

I'm personally waiting for Final Fantasy XII, a story I'll enjoy, since there hasn't been a Final Fantasy with a story I didn't like yet. But with oblivion, Pass. I don't know, maybe I'm not hardcore enough for these games. Until Final Fantasy XI, I don't think I played a video game for longer than 20 minutes, and it was usually a 2 player shooting game like Golden Eye 007. Anyway, getting off topic, but take it from someone who has played the Morrowind game, and couldn't get in to it at all : You need to be the type of person who really, really enjoys ALOT of deep involvement in a game to enjoy any Elder Scrolls title.
